View Full Version : What'll happen to Daffy Duck?:)
First thread, I believe that I've started here in ages.
With Daffy seeming to have been wrecked the most (esp, since 1956 in A STAR IS BORED, so Chuck Jones does not get blamed for this entirely), they have rteally ruined the little black duck. ;) Especially in the Speedy Gonzales series.
I wonder what will happen to his persona laster..will he try to kill all the other looney Tunes..:)
In short....recall when Daffy Duck was funny?

Daffy was funny! Remember the "Rabbit Season/Duck Season" gag? Plus, whatever caused him to say "You're dispicable" was something hilarious...
....Daffy going psycho? Hm! He probably would, but knowing the rest o' the L. Tunes cast, he'd probably be stopped...
...he's the kinda char who ALWAYS gets picked on, so whatever happens to him in the 'toons was alright...he'd always snap out of it and be his usual self in time for the next toon!:)

I also don't like how Daffy changed. I liked when he was just...Daffy. "Hoo, hoo, hoo-ing", crazy, bouncing around, and careless. Granted, there were some classics with the more "egotistical" Daffy like the hunters trilogy, but for the most part, I can't stand the changed Daffy. At least McKimson continued to use the zany Daffy for some time even after they started phasing his zany persona out. The last zany Daffy cartoon I can remember was the classic QUACK SHOT.
And nowadays, everybody seems to have forgotten the zany Daffy because whenever you see a new LT commercial or movie, it always has the evil Daffy.
And the whole "Bugs vs. Daffy" thing has been milked out to death.
QUACK SHOT is one of my favorite cartoons ("Strong union! Hoo hoo, hoo hoo!") and indeed one of the last "daffy" Daffy Duck cartoons. I also like McKimson's MUSCLE TUSSLE from around the same time, even though it had a slightly different take on Daffy.
I'm also sick to death of the Bugs/Daffy rivalry, or that is to say, what's being perpetuated as such on CN's program openings...

I, too, prefer the earlier "darnfool duck" of the '30s and '40s, and wish greatly that some new Daffy portrayals would use that version.
But the later Daffy, at least for a while, is also good by me. And there's not much funnier than his "I don't like pain. It hurts me" speech from Abominable Snow Rabbit.
But, yeah, by the late '50s-'60s Daffys were ruined, especially after McKimson jumped on board.
I prefer the silly Daffy, but I enjoy a lot of the post 55 or so Daffy shorts too. At least when he isn't a pyshco-jerk. I find "Beanstalk Bunny" good, as well as the parody cartoons. However, others, like really all of Frelengs later Daffy shorts (eccept for "Show Biz Bugs") seem unispired and dull. Jones made Daffy really shallow in the Bugs Daffy shorts he made at this time too.
And I agree with everyone about the Bugs-Daffy rivalry, it's old, really old.
