I agree with you 200% about "Generation O!", but don't rag on "Detention". That was a good show; in some respects, it is better than the show that it is inexplicably confused with, "Recess" (check "Detention"'s entry at jumptheshark.com).

Detention wasn't bad, but I found it dull at times. The problem with a lot of these "school" shows is that they don't make use of the potential they have. Disney's "school" animated shows are the same. They play off gags and cliched plots rather than the large cast of characters they automatically have. How do the characters relate to one another? What makes them tick? What do they think of one another? What's going on in their heads? Instead of playing with the characters they have, writers often ignore that aspect and focus on one-liners and lame jokes. Or jokes that are supposed to be "character development." I have not seen one animated school show where the character interactions are fleshed out believably. Except maybe Daria, which targets an older audience.

Even though I know that someone will respond to this negatively, what about "The Weekenders"? Perhaps the best of the "school" shows.

Haven't seen a full episode of "Weekenders." So I can't comment.

Actually, I find Detention maybe a shade over Weekenders, if only for Shareena. She's the one bright spot in the show for me--she's that bright girl we all probably know who usually hangs out with dullards and/or dates losers, and we all know she could do better than that.
Recess amuses me on occasion...Spinelli's the sort of girl who you know will be a real spitfire and boy magnet in ten years or so...and it was a hoot hearing Bob Goulet as Mikey's singing voice.
As for Generation O--said it before, will say it again--that dame's got a great set of pipes on her, but she can't pick scripts worth a frig.

Recess: Always struck me as someone's idea of what they *wished* grade school was like, with how cliched/one-dimensional the main characters came off as (and their teachers/principal). Along with such bizarreness as the "king of the playground", "Lord of the Flies"-esque warrior kindergardeners, and such, it seemed to make an argument in favor of charter schools/private schools or something ;-)
Detention: Also felt rather one-note to me (the kids wind up in detention at the hands of a one-dimensional drill-seargent teacher), though the comic references were semi-amusing (if a bit forced at times)...and speaking of comic refs, wonder what was up with the red sky all the time? Were they swept up in the "Crisis On Infinite Earths" or something? (I know, the B:TAS ones with Tim Drake had reddish skies too....)
Weekenders: Four pre-teens living in some sort of seaside California town try each weekend to come up with the "perfect weekend", and engage in various activities. Better than the above two shows, but not by much; has various KWB familiars doing voices. Lots of "California culture" aspects to it (for lack of a better descriptive term)...
Generation O!: Never watched it beyond a few minutes; came on opposite the "Sabrina" animated series around here, where Molly's voice is also the voice of "Sabrina"'s Gem Stone (a pre-teen version of "Libby" from the live-action series, only with gobs of money)...for that matter, a few other O! voices were also on the Sabrina animated series (one of the O! adults was "Uncle Quigley" on "Sabrina" for one)...

According to the handy, dandy Toon Zone Schedule Guide (did you think I'd say notebook?), August 31's showing will be the final one. Good riddance. It didn't deserve to have the Toonami name on it because it's not action-animation, which has been a Toonami mainstay since March 17, 1997 (you didn't think this block just popped up, did you?).
On September 3 (or 4 if your KWB affiliate is showing the Jerry Lewis Telethon that weekend), the morning lineup is gone, and affiliates will have to fend for itself for mornings. Plus, it's a good way not to worry about that cumbersome E/I requirement.

Despite all this, I still think shows about kids in school have potential. I'm a little bit bored with the concept of 6-10 year old kids in school, but I would like to see more animated shows about kids in the 12-15 range. Teenagers are some of the meanest jerks, but the emotions they have are complex--more complex than the writers at Dawson's Creek and Beverly Hills 90752415247 think. My quest for deep psychological exploration in animation never ends...
Despite the fact that I've seen a few good, heavy European and anime ones.

Well, scientifically speaking, it's the nitrogen in Earth's atmosphere that makes the sky look blue by refracting that part of the earth's spectrum. If another gas dominated the atmosphere, the sky could be red, purple, yellow, or even green. I would think pollution would have an effect on the atmosphere, though, so it seems both Gotham and wherever Benedict Arnold High School (in England, he's a hero, so maybe they have schools over there named for him, but here?) are located must have a devil of a pollution problem that plays havoc with the skies overhead.

It just occurred to me I watch more "Arthur" than all of these shows mentioned. In fact, I watch more PBS now than Fox Kids and KWB.
Wow. I must be going insane.

Hey, I watch more STATIC (non-Shock, but the snowy stuff) than KWB right now! So you aren't the only one going insane....
...but then again, should we consider outselves insane for not watching some of the KWB stuff out there? Considering some of the new shows and some stupid KWB decisions, I'd say we're actually getting smarter...

Rescue Heroes, too many darn anime, and killing Detention, Generation O, Batman Beyond, and Histeria! WBA needs more comedy than action, they need some WBA action, comedy, and some anime. We got the CN for it. We got the CN's Toonami for it, and they need to bring back the Rising Sun back on Saturday Mornings. Man, without WBA, from 1995-1999, who first aired A!, B&S adv., Batman Beyond, Histeria!, ZETA project, Static Shock, Detention, and Freakazoid on KWB, There will be no PokeMon, Yu-Gi-Oh!, Rescue Heroes, KWB's Phoney Toonami, and other garbage they replace the Silver Age ones. I hope they will do better than that next year in the fall in 2002, but they screwed up this year.
Thank goodness that the CN represents AOL Time Warner.
GI- A one angry coustumer in this replacement deal:mad:

Here is the kind of variety the WB should air:
Batman/Superman alternatively.
Batman Beyond on and off (too much Bat-stuff on one channel is overkill...I know some of you disagree, but that's what I think.)
Looney Toons
Powerpuff Girls-like program. Sat AM really needs to try building a true female audience.
Wild Thornberries-like program. NOT Rugrats.
Either Pinky and the Brain, Animaniacs, and Tiny Toons. Not a fan of either of these shows (except the first one) but it's good variety. One of these, not ALL.
Anime:
Niea_7--Not an action show, more of a down-to-earth show about some lower-class girl who works for a living and lives with a really strange alien roommate. Fill with a similar show when it ends.
--Some action show, good or bad. Fills time, brings ratings. A GOOD one would be Nadia or something.
Educational:
Histeria, I guess.
Some other "school" show. Ah, maybe they'd better get me to write it...
