According to SCIFI WIRE:

ABC has ordered a script for a proposed TV series based on the DC Comics series Starman, according to The Hollywood Reporter. The network has given a script commitment to Tollin/Robbins Productions, the company behind The WB's hit DC Comics-based Smallville and Birds of Prey, and Warner Brothers Television, the trade paper reported.

Like the comic, Starman will center on a 25-year-old former slacker who is forced to become a superhero after his brother, the former Starman, is mysteriously killed. John Gatins (Hardball) is writing the script for the show and is executive producing with Tollin/Robins' Joe Davola, Mike Tollin and Brian Robbins, the trade paper reported.

Oh please, not another Birds of Prey dear god!

More Shows?! When is the surge of DC-Comics to Television ever going to stop?! Anyway some of the people from Smallville and BoP are working on it so that is a relief. I don't really care for Starman but this might get me intrested in him. :-D

I don't know, if there's any DC book that could make a good series, it's Starman. But will they keep the same spirit of the books, or will they add unnecessary elements such as a troubled teen or a wacky "comic relief guy" for marketing purposes?

All we need is Jack, Ted, the O'Dares, Sadie (maybe) and episodes exploring the past Starmen.

In other words, make the series, but don't mess with it.

Eh, I don't know about this. The fact that neither Tony nor James are involved has me a bit worried. If this gets made I really hope they bring one, or both, of them on board so nothing gets really messed up.

I'm sorry, but in comparison to the comics, the only way this show could go is down. Nothing could possibly live up to that book. Ever.

Conceptually, the show makes sense for TV when you look at the characters and setting and such. If they get this right (NO BoP!), I'm really looking forward to it.

I'm all for this project. In addition to sounding really interesting, if any comic book can get into this "no costume" mandate, it's Robinson's Starman series. Now, can they get John DeLance to play the Shade?

Things are looking slightly up for this show. Opal City will be the city and Ted Knight will be in it. I was so nervous that he'd just be completely ignored to showcase Jack as his own, slacker-turned-hero twenty-something character. Ted and Jack's relationship is really the core of the Starman story anyhow. Without Ted, there could be no show.

The article I've read also mentions a cosmic device, but does not specify "Cosmic Rod." I will lie awake at nights worrying about what other possible device they might conceive.
