I've seen several references to the CinemaScope cartoons in the Toonheads ideas thread. I sort of think they should make a show about them or something. It would only be a season (13 episodes) long, but I'd be worth it. I'd call it "The Wide World of CinemaScope," but I'm corney and someone else can think of a better name. Two episodes only have two cartoons in them because I wanted it to be thirteen episodes long. I still needed to fill out a thirteenth episode, and something Patrick mentioned in the Toonheads thread gave me an idea.

Here's how I'd structure it:

episode one:
a few minutes to explain what CinemaScope is, why it came about, and explain that some cartoons were filmed in CinemaScope and in the regular format. Then show
"Pet Peeve" &
"Dixieland Droopy"
in their Cinemascope form

episode two:
"Touche Pussycat"
"Southbound Duckling"
"Pup On a Picnic"

episode three:
"Tom and Cherie"
"That's My Mommy"
"The Flying Sorceress"

episode four (remakes):
show scene by scene comparisons between "Ventriloquist Cat" and "cat's Meow" as well as comparisons of other remakes.
"Cat's Meow"
"The Egg and Jerry"

episode five (remakes part two):
"Tops With Pops"
"Feedin' the Kiddie"
"Good Will To Men"

episode six:
"Busy Buddies"
"Muscle Beach Tom"
"Millionaire Droopy"

episode seven:
"Downbeat Bear"
"Blue Cat Blues"
"Barbeque Brawl"

episode eight:
"Give and Tyke"
"Timid Tabby"
"Grin and Share It"

episode nine:
"Mucho Mouse"
"Blackboard Jumble"
"Tom's Photo Finish"

episode ten:
"One Droopy Knight"
"Happy Go Ducky"
"Sheep Wrecked"

episode eleven:
"Royal Cat Nap"
"Mutts About Racing"
"The Vanishing Duck"

episode twelve:
"Robin Hoodwinked"
"Scat Cats"
"Droopy Leprechaun"

episode thirteen:
briefly mention that Tot watchers was the last CinemaScope cartoon made at MGM.
"Tot Watchers"
(this is where Patrick's idea comes in) Now explain that CinemaScope wasn't the only way to release a cartoon in widescreen and that some studios, like WB, would compose later cartoons to be cropped by the projector and show some clips of cartoons being cropped for a widescreen effect (this is so people don't come away from this thinking WB cartoons were made in Widescreen and are pan and scanned for TV)
show a complete WB cartoon in this "cropped" mode. I think "Rocket-Bye Baby" would work well...

So, does anyone think this is a good idea, or do you think it's stupid? Anything that could be improved upon?
