1st through the 8th?! O_o
No offense, but that's not much of a boycott. I doubt I'd happen to buy a game during that week, anyway.

The campaign to ruin the videogame industry eh?
I think I will intentionally buy a game or two during that time to make up for some misguided peoples boycott.

O...k. Honestly, $50 is alot, but if you really want the game, you're gonna pay it. Lately, Blockbuster has been dishing the games out a month after release for almost half of the regular price...if people really don't wanna spend much, just get the thing used. Most people have no-scratch guarantees (or at least "guaranteed to work").
Or, do what I'm doing now. Save up all the money and ignore the other nagging wants (IE: games on XBOX :p )..heck, I already reserved and have money for Metroid Prime, and I'm gonna be keep saving up as much as I can, cause the influx of Video Games isn't gonna end..

$50 isn't too much for a game I think. Especially when you consider the time and money that goes into making one. The thing you have to watch out for is buying a bad game at full price (like I did with Tomb Raider 3  ).
You have to research a game first. All of my $50+ games have left me satsified (Xenogears, Tekken 3, etc). If a game is really good (in most cases), the price will drop after a while. I didn't pick up Legend of Dragoon until it was $20, but after playing it, I would have gladly paid full price for it.

Well, okay, when it costs 1 cent to produce a music CD, and then it's sold for 20 dollars, then I have a problem with that. Video games are the same thing. I would boycott, but I have been doing that since I bought Mega Man X6 last December  .
This should definately be longer. Unless they are planning to release a big game that week, this is pointless.
Later.

It's called supply and demand, gents. If you don't think $50 is a reasonable price for a video game, then don't buy it. If you think it is, then buy it. It's a very simple concept.
Something like a week long boycott (of about 20 people by the looks of it) is not going to be enough to change the minds of several multi-billion dollar companies to lower the price of games by $25. It wouldn't even be good business. Cut prices in half to make up for the loss of profits in a week (they probably make less money during rough spots in the economy, but they still don't drop prices). Unless the gaming industry actually thought they would double their sales, they'd never cut prices in half for new releases.
Here's an idea: Get a job and you'll be able to afford $50 games.

Games are cheaper NOW than they have ever been. Anyone stating otherwise is complaining just to complain.
What bugs me are people who believe they are entitled to something they are not. If people don't want to pay for the games... then guess what, they don't need to BUY the games. It's that simple. ME? Who knows what I might want to do with my money that week.

That's probably true. I recall when spectrum games were full priced at £9.99 ($14 or so), however they were 48K worth of game. For the work and resources which are put into games now - and the length they last in gameplay, if you wait a little for a minor price drop and chose carefully, I think you get very good value for money!

This is silly, especially around that time, this is the Christmas rush people, parents are going to buy any video game that is even remotely within their price range, whether the game is crappy or not and keep the VG economy going, so a few people not buying games that week will mean diddly, they won't even notice
Besides, who says you have to buy EVERY game that comes out, I have always only bought a handful of games (the exception was with my Dreamcast, but I had a steady job, and an employee discount ;) ) and just rented other ones that looked good. Besides, my birthday is is DEC7 so you're in la la land if you think I'm gonna pass up one of my gift days to not get a VG

This boycott is easily one of the most mindless undertakings ever.
If any of the people who organized this bothered to actually research what they were talking about, they'd come to find that developing games is an extrememly costly endeavour. There's R&D, payrolls, office space, manufacturing, etc. Not to mention the fact that a healthy percentage of the people who buy games are children. Who could honestly careless about this.
More to the point, I honestly fail to see why boycotting games for a week would make prices go down. You're not being ripped off. Games cost alot of money because they cost alot to make.

SNES games were regularly over $60, consider yourself lucky that the current games are as affordable as they are.

I hate to have to do this, but if a guy bought video games Nov. 30 and then buys another one Dec. 9 would the industry even notice?
And jdoggg is right. Games used to cost a lot more than this.
Personally I need to stop buying new games and do some more with the five I have so I suppose I won't buy any that week by default. ;)

I wouldn't buy any games then, anyway, so its no problem. Of course, I don't mind the price.
The actual cost of the disc IS in fact less than ten dollars. However, as you may know, there's more to making a game than slapping it on a disc. The good ones take lots of people spending lots of time and energy trying to make a great game. It takes a total of thousands of hours of work to do this, and costs millions of dollars just to create the game. Then, for this measly amount of money this guy uses for his argument, they put it on a disc and sell it. Sure, it doesn't cost that much to put a game on a disc, but it costs ALOT to actually MAKE the game.
I might just purposely buy some games on December 4th to make up for some misguided fools, because this "boycott" won't help anyone.
A "boycott" this short won't help you make your case, either. If there was going to be a boycott that would actually be noticed, you'd have to make a boycott UNTIL YOUR DEMANDS ARE MET. One week isn't going to change the industry, they're not even going to notice you. If you want results, stop buying games. Not just for a week, for good. At least, until they lower the price to your ridiculous $20-25.
