Two words:

Adolescent lameness...

To quote Penny Arcade:

While I respect the fact the Microsoft is trying to be clever and/or funny, they really should have considered hiring people who were clever and/or funny to create their irreverent flash advertisements.

I saw that on another message board.

Its so freakin stupid. Xboxers are so pathetic it makes me want to puke!

Not-tendo

So what's a Tendo ? Errr..My God that's awful, now the Crash Bandicoot Comercials of yore those were funny.

That's just stupid. So gamers who own a Gamecube are pansies, huh ? Way to take being in 3rd place Microsoft.

As clever as it is mature.

Seriously, do they think this will sell more consoles? What exactly are they trying to accomplish? This is just totally unprofessional and just plain stupid. I've really had no gripes with Microsoft before, but now my opinion of them has dropped significantly.

The main problem was it just wasn't funny.

Xbox not for pansies?

That's a real low blow at Nintendo.

Plus, I think Microsoft is attacking the wrong company. They should be worry about Sony instead.

I hope people can see why Microsoft should be taken out from the video game industry.

Not-tendo?

Personally I liked the old "Pretendo" insult much better.

That's just disgusting. What a total lack of any class or sense of history. Where would Microsoft be without Nintendo and Mario? Certainly not making the X-Box, that's for darn sure. Grrrr......

Now, making fun of other companies with flash animations adds two factors to the company that made fun.

* The company that makes fun of the other company is immature.

* This might start an internet flash animation war with THE FANBOYS!!! I can see it all now! Mario jumping on Bill Gates. The XBot shooting lasers at Toan from Dark Cloud, and Toan spraypainting pictures of Mario!

Hey, I'm a Nintendo fan! Come on, everybody likes Mario!!!

Nice try, Microsoft. But it just doesn't work.

Cute, Microsoft takes Rare, then calls Nintendo pansies.
For Microsoft's first real competition, they are certainly angering the right people ;)

Later.

Yeah I saw that. My jaw was dropping at how low they actually went. I mean, they bash the console in their magazine, and now on their website? That's just so wrong. Not only is it wrong, it's completely unproffesional. My hatred for Microsoft just got a new meaning..

Also, anybody notice their lack of sound effects? The end of it was the XBOX turning on..

That was completely unprofessional. Microsoft may have hit low points before but this goes far beyond any of that.

Well, the ad does accuately portray many of Nintendo's recent games, MS didn't have to make a flash cartoon to show it. I can't see how this will possibly help with sales, unless a potential buyer might have a phobia of being called a "pansy" by an animated video game console.

Not MS's best decision ever. But hey, how many of us actually went to the site and watched it? There's no such thing a bad publicity.

That's a real low blow at Nintendo.

It's a low blow at Nintendo's fans, as well as anyone who may own a GC. That could include the lucky peopel who boughta ll 3 systems so you can see that they didn't thins all the way through.

The most recent games have been Animal Crossing, Mario Sunshine & Star Fox and none of that goes on in any of the games..well actually in Animal Crossing flowers appear around the females heads when they are happy..But this game was made for japanese gamers really and any anime fan will tell you this game borrows heavily from Comical anime's with some of the expressions.

And I disagree about the there's no bad publicity thing. You can see by some of our reactions. I'm sure there are people who would have bought an X-Box that won't do it now, all beacuse of that ad.

I remember a long, long time ago, Nintendo had released the Gameboy (Classic) Funtastic color series. They had colors like red, green, yellow, see-through... Problem was that the games were still green and black. Sega immeaditly released a commerical with a man who showed pics of the new GBs. He started making fun of the GBs. He then said that GBs were worthless since they were not in color. He then started saying that people should start buying Gamegear.

8 years later....

SONIC THE HEDGEHOG FOR GAMEBOY ADVANCE!
SONIC ADVENTURE 2: BATTLE FOR GAMECUBE!

I predict that Microsoft's X-Box will crash and burn, and come crawling to the big N...

Sega use to make fun of Nintendo back in the early 90's. Their old slogan was "Genesis dose what Nintendon't" Microsoft better not make fun of Sony! I think A good punishment for them would be to bring "House Of The Dead 3" to both Gamecube, and Playstation 2. Now there's some justice!

Microsoft better not make fun of Sony!Microsoft has already started attacking Sony. If you have the November issue of EGM just check out the top of page of 35.From EGM:
To prepare members of the press for Sony's PS2 online launch, Microsoft sent out a "PS2 Online Starter Kit" with items including an online voice communicator (phone card), a short-range voice communication system (two cups connected by a string) and a 56k Download Assistant (ball and paddle).
You'll have to check it out yourself if you want to see a picture.

I'd like to know what the guys at MS were thinking. There's no way I'm buying an Xbox, and insulting the crowd on the other side isn't gonna help them. Bill Gates has basically told us that the Xbox is doing horribly, because they wouldn't do something like this if they had sold even ONE system this month.

Venom234
10-10-2002, 05:55 PM
I don't see why people are so upset about that. What I don't like about it is that they couldn't come up with something more clever than Not-Tendo. I mean come on.

Has it been altered? I just saw a Sunshine logo and then a screen telling me to submit ideas to XBOX.

The Dork Knight
10-10-2002, 06:16 PM
Yes, they have pulled it off of their website. It no longer shows the cartoon. Just the X-Box robot and the send ideas button.

This is the message I am getting now:

Missed Sunny World? Sorry Xbox
fans, but you really have to stay on
your toes around here!

We're always looking for ways to
keep the Xbox community buzzing,
so keep those ideas coming...

Send it your idea, and just maybe
you'll see it online!

So what does this mean?

If the whole plan of the video was to grab people's attention Microsoft has certainly accomplished that.

SpotLane

How bad is the Xbox doing?

Because I was thinking of buying one when the system dies that way the piece would be lower and I would get to buy Jet Set Radio Future.

I have A question. If Cartoon Network made A series of Ads calling Toon Disney (or Di$ney Channel) watchers pansys, would they be just as bad as Microsoft? I'm just curious.

mmm hmm...basically. It's just looks bad, regardless if it's true, it just makes the system/channel look like crap.

And I'm guessing Microsoft didn't take it down to keep fans "on their toes"--but cause Nintendo got on their hind quarters about it.. :p

I was thinking the same thing, BB... I bet M$ got a lot of flack about that... I know that even a lot of the XBox fans thought that that little jab at the Big N was in REALLY poor taste.

I can say one thing for certain now, though... any thoughts of buying an Xbox (and trust me, there were VERY few) were tossed in the garbage when I saw that.

I remember Squaresoft taking A stab at Nintendo when they released "Final Fantasy 7". They said something to the effect that if it were A cartridge, it cost more.

Microsoft should be worrying about their own network. No dial-up? Good luck getting sales when over 60% of America doesn't have broadband.

Yeah I would be very po'ed at them. It doesn't matter which company does it.

I sent my idea in. It was to stop making fun of Nintendo and show some respect to the Video Game componies that know what they're doing. But then again, it's just Microsoft talking. I mean really, who listens? We buy their computers and thats it. Besdies that they have no power, and not many take their opinions seriously.
