View Full Version : AICN Shutting Down?

Can it be true...finally? According to the awesome www.thefacer.net, it looks like a little scuffle between Harry and Moriarty is causing some problems. Apparently, the Superman script review has a bit to do with this. Here's an excerpt from www.thefacer.net :

Hey folks, Harry here. I'm taking a bit of a vacation for 2 weeks. After the recent... issues with me and a certain person on this site, I've decided to reexamine my love for cinema, flicks, movies and shadowplays. The vitrol and hate I've seen in the last few days has... well made me question why I run AICN. I'll be gone for this period of time and think about whether or not I want to continue running this site...

To top it off, Harry has allegedly yanked Moriarty's review of J.J. Abrams new Superman script after pressure from the writer and (possibly) Warners. (We've got a cached copy here at TheFacer.Net in the event that the review magically disappears from the AICN archive in time for Superman's release, and Harry's positive review.) Well, I'd love to comment on both parties, obviously, but The Moriartorium is still on (until December!), and I can't. But I can criticize Harry, so let's examine this. Moriarty pisses off Harry, and as a result Harry has to "re-examine his love for cinema"? His entire "love of cinema" was based on Drew McWeeny? That's some flimsy commitment.

Load of bunk. HArry loves film and would never shut down AICN. He stated that when he reviewed the Superman script it was after some changes had been made and that Moriartiy had reviewed it before the changes had been made. Moriartiy's review is still there, but it's not linked of fthe front page as it is now older news, same as Harry's review. Whoever wrote that rumor needs a leason is what happens when you spread false rumors.

What happened between them?

EDIT: Shouldn't this be over at the Entertainment Board?

I say good riddance. Their so-called "news" is usually bullcrap anyway.

Methinks they're just trying to get some type of publicity for the fight. Everyone loves a good soap opera - yeah, no one sticks around to watch the whole thing unfold, but as long as you view it at all, the hit count goes up and so does the advertising revenue. Or something.

I dunno. I don't really care of AICN stays or goes. It's a good entertaining read and all, but there have been too many instances where they've posted far too many rumours that turned out to be false.

Why am I the only person in the world that seems to like that site?

They give early and non-stuck up reviews about movies. I dig the place and they could possibly be creditted for saving the Superman franchise.

Personally I kinda enjoy spoiler sites like AICN that get some stuff wrong. It's fun to speculate and play what if, and here we've got a website and forums (talkbacks) to do specifically that. Watching geeks and fanboys get mad and verbally abuse eack other is fun!

...until it becomes part of your job, and gets ridiculous and redundant when it happens. You just think, "I can't believe he/she bought into that ego driven bait" (from the oposite argument persuer). :p

But I've never really liked AICN that much, myself. I don't really like the info they give, and I disagree with most if not all of their opinions, like their praise for the Men In Black 2 script. Although I don't wish anything bad on them. We all have our problems and times of weakness.

But on an unrelated note, I will hereby electronically kick the WB in the fanny for coming off as a group of mob bosses when pressuring them to take down their Superman review. If I didn't already anticipate it happening and this was a suprise, I'd probably be annoyed. :p

I wish it WOULD shut down. Ugh.

I've always preferred Coming Attractions by Corona Productions anyway...

I never visit Ain't it Cool so I could actually care less. Harry means nothing to me. Pauly Shore was more deserving of his celebrity than Harry K.

Well, unlike the majority here it seems, I like AICN. I respect Harry and Moriartiy's opinions as they are both two people who really, really, really love film and, at least to me, express it the bets possible way. And they always apologize when they get major information that proves to be wrong. Now the talkbackers are a whole 'nother story.

Sure, Cause quite a few people know we mod there. ;)

i mean, AICN isn't bad, but the reason why AICN is hated is simple. They have no ethics. They have posted spoiler-laden reviews of Star Wars Episode 2. They have no control on "Feedback"(Thats just asking for trouble.), and Knowles just buys "gifts" off of filmmakers.(Most recently John Mctiernan for "Rollerball")

His site actually drags down the status of sites like Greg's Previews at Yahoo!, Dark Horizons, CA/Test Pattern, and Coming Soon.

1 is destroying the rest.

Can someone please explain the whole debate about the Supes script? I know what the script was originally (ie-Supes not from Krypton, etc.).

Thanks!

I think I stopped caring about AICN after I realized just how deeply in bed they were with the makers of The Faculty, in which Harry had a bit part, and that this was the reason such a mediocre movie was all but being hailed as the second coming. They really are ethically impaired, and not to be trusted.

Here's a sort of outdated list of atrocities:

I'm sure there are many more recent ones.
