i'm curious.

does everyone want to know what's going to happen in the new episodes before they play?

wouldn't this spoil the experience of watching the episode for the first time?

doesn't having advance knowledge diminish the entertainment value of watching the show?

i can understand wanting to know details and story information, but when does it cross the line? i mean, if an unexpected character shows up in the show - do you want to know about it in advance? doesn't that spoil the moment the writers, directors and producers are trying so hard to develop?

sure, episode titles can be pretty vague... which is great (i can't wait to see what happens in "Tabula Rasa"), but listing all the characters and giving key plot points away really sucks the entertainment value of the show away.

let's just wait and see what they have planned for us. i really think it will be ten times better not knowing until you see it.

thoughts?

Well, I personally love the spoilers when it comes to TV shows and movies. I knew all the episode titles, plots, villians, and JL members present in all the Season 1 episodes, and I still watched them, recorded them on my VCR, and enjoyed them just as much. :D In fact, knowing that I was going to see Aquaman, Lex Luthor, Joker, and Hades made me look forward to Justice League that much more! :D

On the other hand, one of my best friends is just the opposite; he hates spoilers of any kind, and will get seriously pissed at me if I let something slip out. (It took months before he forgave me for accidentally telling him that Darth Maul died in Star Wars, Episode I: The Phantom Menace before he actually went to the movie theater to see the movie. :( )

As for spoilers appearing on this Message Board -- I think that's why we're all here. We want to know! Those who don't want to be spoiled avoid Message Boards altogether because they don't want to know anything ahead of time, regardless of what TV show/movie/video game/etc. it is they're a fan of.

I agree with nothing. I mean, I'll ask about minor spoilers like episode titles, basic plot summary, and which Leaguers are in it, but other than that, I have enough patience to wait it out. I don't really mind major spoilers -- to each his own, if they wanna be spoiled so be it -- but I'd prefer to see the episode for myself without knowing what to expect.

Well, there's a difference between tweaking our interest and telling us every little detail about the episode. Personally, I've found that the tidbits dropped by yourself, DarkLantern, and Jim Harvey's contacts have only added to the anticipation we feel. I can't really think of a time where the episode was spoiled by your revelations.

Yes, I hate spoilers too. It ruins the fun of watching it in the first place. Plus, it's like people enjoy showing off their egos.

I respect people a lot more if they used spoiler boxes or made a big deal that spoilers are ahead if they can't use spoiler boxes.

To me this is a VERY interesting topic, and I love to see how in our message board lives we actually have an interest to turn the mirror around on ourselves and examine, just as we would certain episodes. :)

I'm pretty much with Squall in what he said, cuz he sorta covered both sides. But I think a LARGE factor involved revolves around the fan, what type of fan he/she is, what the subject matter to be spoiled is, and how much of a fan of the show/project the person is.

The less I care (yet still like) about a general show, the more likely I'll look for spoilers in all shapes and sizes. For example, I loved the movie Lord of The Rings, but since I wasn't a fan to begin with, and I had the oppertunity to be completely spoiled before the movie, I went for it (I wasn't given everything, just like 90 something percent).

The only exception to that with me is with Buffy the Vampire Slayer's fifth season. I pretty much got the whole thing spoiled (the key stuff anyway) but I only did it cuz I had the resources. Ya know, like an ego thing or something? lol. Maybe just so I could say I did. :p

I think the bottom line in my specific case is I don't mind spoilers, and I really like them too, even though once in a while I may avoid them. The thing is I'm not sure WHY I avoid them, I just do. But when I don't, I won't enjoy the show any less. This example is where Justice League fits in.

What?!?! Darth Maul dies?? I was just about to watch Phantom Menace for the first time this morning! Thanks! Thanks, a lot! I'll never forgive you for this.

There is that fine line between a tantalizing preview and one that gives too much away. That's why I like "teaser" trailers. The only reason I'd want something more substantial is if I'm undecided about watching the show. Justice League is on my list of "addictions;" I'll make sure I see every episode regardless, so what's the point in finding out how good the episode is?

BTW, Squall, no offense, but I empathize with your friend. My friends know that they can push my buttons just by saying, "Hey guess what happens in the next episode of [such and such]." I will of course block my ears and go "La La La La" like I'm three. Hehe.

I'm highly allergic to spoilers. I admit it now. So, I guess I'm biased that way.

I can understand, though how some people like to be teased by what's going to happen. Obviously if you know too much, it makes viewing the episode pointless. And big plot points sort of ruin the suprise and the thrill of the plot. So that's basically ruining the episode for you. A crumb here and there in many ways makes a person more liable to watch something though. Like a cameo or something.

For me, though I really don't care. If I find out accidently or something I won't not watch because of that. But I find I enjoy a "spoiler-free" viewing more. I don't enjoy it as much if I know Person X is going to perform Thing Y and end up with Outcome Z -- it really bores me. Still anticipatory things, like potential guest stars and stuff always make me happy. So, maybe in some ways I'm on the fence.

I avoid spoilers like the plague

That's what someone once told me, and I think it's pretty good advice.
