Damn, I hope you guys were joking. You did see that the poll states "Best NEXTGEN console", right?

PS2 gets my vote. Superior games (quanity and quality. Mario's a cool guy, but Mario: Sunshine? wtf?), controller (sigh, what the hell was MS thinking when they designed the original Xbox controller?), and value (free DVD/CD player and $20 games, gotta love it).

I even wrote a term paper on why the PS2 was the best nextgen console. It got an A, naturally.

It's a tough call for me. It's definitely between Gamecube and PS2 for me. Some may consider me biased because those are the two I own, but hear me out. X-Box has some good games out now (JSFR, Halo, Max Payne, and others) and a few others coming (Shenmue 2, RARE games, Halo 2, and many others), but compared to what's coming to PS2 and Gamecube, it's not much. Xbox is doing the weakest of the three in Japan (Gamecube may behind Xbox a little in America though), and while there are companies supporting it there, it's definitely not as much/well as the others. The only developer really contributing to the Xbox is Sega (it must have been some deal that was strucked upon when Microsoft attempted to buy them out, according to Gamespot). Another weakness of X-Box is the the bulky controller. I know that it took me awhile to get used to the N64 and Dreamcast controllers, and while I am used to the Xbox controller and have played many games on the system, I just don't like the controller, and that goes along with the modified one.

Now PS2 and Gamecube, hmm..
The fact I can get PS1 games really cheap is nice (I didn't own the system), Sqauresoft is making as of right now 1 Gamecube game while their full support continues to be Sony, most developers make their titles PS2 exclusive, and the controller is much better for fighting games.

Nintendo has exclusive Resident Evil titles (minus Online and the Survivor series); despite Rare leaving, Nintendo still has some great franchises we all know and love; and the controller is alot better for platformers/adventure games.

Talk about your old school system. They made a top ten list on the worst games in system history and half of them were for the Atari.

I've always sticked with Nintendo. The Gamecube!

I own all three.

Ok, to make an incredibly long story short, they all have there good and bad points. It really just depends on what kind of games you like. Since I'm pretty eclectic as far as gaming goes, I'm indiferent to the whole "System Wars" thing.

Nintendo Gamecube. PS2 is getting kinda old, and X-box has a bad controller, plus a game library that's not to my liking.

Does anyone else find it funny that Virtual Boy is beating out X-Box?

I voted Gamecube.

Virtual Boy all the way! :D

Jk, I voted for the GCN. But I find it funny how many votes the VB's gotten. (I'm not sure which I loathe more, personally.)

It's a tie between gamecube and ps2 for me.. both have killer titles that I want to play. Being a female the controller for the gamecube doesn't bother me.

ICK to xbox.. there aren't any games on the system I want to play that I can't play on my computer and the controller is TOO BIG! Also its the most expensive and if you want to play online be prepared to pay a monthly fee. (and if you don't have cable connection forget it! Dial up people can't take advantage of xbox online) PS2 games are going to be per publisher.. so some games there will be a fee and some will be free. Also you can be on a dial up connection and get to play their on-line games.

I like my gameboy Advance better then xbox.

I personally like my online computer games as I have a keyboard, so it will be interesting to see how they handle chat on on-line console games.

Um, you all should really try using the Xbox Controller S, not the standard controller. You might change your mind on the controller problems of the Xbox.

Okay, this is what as known as a blind bias. The Xbox is intentionally different from the PC. If you look at the games you can buy on the Xbox, very few of them are games that you can get on PC (other than games that are also on all of the other consoles). Saying it is the most expensive is technically right, unless you consider the fact that the PS2 costs the same.

The other issues (such as dial up gaming and "killer" titles you want to play) are personal views that I really cant comment on. Remember, I want all of the systems for their own good qualities, but I think this "Battle of Consoles" works better if you keep to talking about your preferred system's positives rather than the other systems negatives. Focusing on negatives doesnt really prove that your system is better, but instead makes one believe that you have less positive to say about your system and more negative to say about the others. Just something I think people should stick to.

I voted for Xbox because its the only one I own. The controller S is an excellent controller (the original controller is pretty weak, i agree), the graphics are better than the other versions that are on other systems, I like what Sega has/ is going to bring out for the system, Halo rocks, Halo 2 is going to be better, and there are lots of games that are killer aps for me that will come out by Xmas (Steel Battallion, MGS2:Substance, Panzer Dragoon Orta, etc.).

As for GCN, I'm looking forward to the Nintendo first party games (Metroid, Zelda, Mario Kart, cuz it is coming out y'all).

For the PS2, I certainly need to get GTA3, GTA Vice City, and Kingdom Hearts. Outside of that, its kind of wait and see. Maybe games like Sly Cooper that kind of come out of nowhere will come out, but right now, I've got enough to pay for.

As for Virtual Boy...:P

I can't decide. PS2 is the only one of those I own, and I like the games for it, but the system itself and Sony's business practices really piss me off.

Heh, if you combine the three systems, the Xbox will bring it down below Virtual Boy. However, GCN is the best of the options.

I agree with Skiptastic. Focus on the positives, not the negatives.

Sure, the X-box has a horrible controller, just get the Controller S, or the adapter that lets you use the PS2 controller.

Sure, most of PS2's games are multiplatform, but you usually get them well before anyone else. Plus, this is RPG central.

Sure, the GC doesn't have Rare anymore, or a lot of games, but it's still got stellar first-person games (Mario, Metroid, etc.). And it's game library will get much bigger in a few months time.

I haven't bought any of the new systems yet but I must say that PS2 is looking better and better. Nintendo screwed themselves by not buying Rare. I don't think the X-box has enough good games. PS2 just seems to be the good medium.

to be honest... XBOX is the best system as far as power goes... especially because it has that sweet hard drive thing going... On the other hand PS2 has the biggest game library with the most must have ops... on the other other hand GameCube has the backing of one of the bet game developers in the world... Nintendo... all and all it coemsd down to your tastes... there really is no clear cut winner... but if i had to pickone i would pick Dreamcast... it may not be selling anymore but its graphically up to par with the rest and it has some of the best games ever made in its library...

'Cube for me..why?

Well, it's true--XBOX is most impressive system wise, but there just isn't jack squidly that I honestly MUST have (sans Jet Set Radio Future, and I have that)--and no, I don't want Halo--, so XBOX is definitely #3

#2 is PS2. It's true, it has the biggest library, but no matter how hard I look at their upcoming release list, I can't say "man, I want that", or even at their current library--I got around 8 PS2 games now, and those are the ones I bought it for (mainly cause LucasArts seems all PS2 pro, and they released alot of Star Wars only games on the system). Their games may be "superior" and their quantity may be 10x greater than XBOX and Cube's combined, but there just isn't much that system has to offer me (it's two heavy hitters--GTA and FF series...nope)

#1- Game Cube. It has the games I love to play. I don't know what it is, but I already own alot of Cube games and I love everyone I bought. I even have a pre-order slip for Metroid Prime already, and I didn't even like the old Metroid--it just shows how much Nintendo seems to be wrapping around my gaming interests as of late. Super Mario Sunshine was great (I recall a post in this thread by SpaceCub "WTF" to the name--play the game, then judge it. Names mean nothing), Luigi's Mansion rocked, and Rogue Leader is by far the BEST Star Wars game to date I've played. So Cube is holding my #1 interest, if just for the upcoming releases.

On a side note, "console vs. console" threads tend to become screwy lewy--so, lets try and keep it civil (it's civil right now, just a warning that it can turn at any second).

I'm one of the minority that voted X-Box. I can't really bash the other systems, because I have a PS2 and am buying a Gamecube soon. Every system has great titles, it's just hard picking them all up. So why vote X-Box? I just have more fun with it. I'm still playing Halo multiplayer today, Morrowind must have at least 125 hours logged by me, Buffy's been a blast, and I'm dying to play Mech Assault.

I vote for PS2. It's got A good selection of games, plus you get to play all of your old PS1 games, and Play movies. Now if only Sega would bring "House Of The Dead 3" to PS2. The Dreamcast was A good system too.(Better than the Saturn when it comes to 3D games.) I just wish that "Zombie Revenge", The "Street Fighter 3" games, and "Spawn: In The Deamond's Hand" would come to PS2 in the wake of it's demise. Xbox may be the most powerful, but it dosen't have A good selection of games. Plus it's too big. I've given up on Nintendo years ago when they unleashed the N64.

I had to say that Chris Sanders MSX put quite nicely, something of profound truth in very few words. (I must say, I know of few people who play a game to be frustrated or aggrivated.)

"brevity is the soul of wit" -shakespeare

Yes, much of Nintendo's appeal and success has been in putting together a line-up of titles that gamers not only like to play, but want to play. While MS & Sony have a huge library of games available for their respective sytems, how many are there that we're dying for or excited about? (In fact, I tend to think that MS is severely lacking in marketing strategy, as evidenced by their just throwing out as many games as they possibly can.)

As Bird Boy pointed out, there are few games on rival systems at this point in time that people are just going bonkers waiting for. Perhaps GTAvc & MGS:Substance... but there, I believe metal gear will be on more than one system...

I play my GameCube more, but I'm gonna have to say the PS2 is the better console. It has a lot of different genres and a bunch of good games by a large amount of developers while there are only a few good GC games not made by Nintendo. The PS2's dvd player and its backward compatibality with PS1 games also make it convenient.
