I understand that John is completely different from his animated counterpart. I've been a long-time fan of the books, and while I generally hate the animated John Stewart, I don't really mind his comic incarnation. What I'm opposed to is how strongly the cartoon is influencing the comics.
Cartoon influence was great as far as Mr. Freeze and BTAS were concerned, but now we're about to see Hawkgirl permanently on the JLA because of the cartoon and now John is going to be Green Lantern again when he has flatly refused to take up the role MANY times before.
I am also vomitting because John is coming back to active duty under Winick, who couldn't write Green Lantern if his mother's life depended on it.

Well, I can't speak for everyone else, but I don't like him because he seems like a real butthole.

I'm peeved about the (non-Aventures) comics imitating the show. They're separate continuities. They SHOULD BE separate continuities. (Plus I think they should've used Kyle on the show to begin with.)

As much as I wish it weren't necessary, I'm going to have to step in and remind everyone to keep things cool. I don't think anyone wants this board to be infamous for it's comic/comic character opinions clashing with and disrespecting each other, and I feel the same way. Cool things down.
But back on topic, I have to say that although I like John's animated GL self that I agree with Barry Allen in the sense that I do NOT like when what is popular affects everything else around it. It just bugs me, ya know? It gets so predictable, you'd think the public would start seeing through it and stop falling for it. For example, any Superman-related products or projects coming out these days because Smallville is popular (not a direct example but I'm sure you recognize the point). Of course there are advantages to that which we fanboys can benefit from through some manipulation, but still, it's the public as a whole I'm thinking about.
In my opinion, the comics are for the most part always better story wise, so whatever projects come after that should be inspired by them, not the other way around.

Franlky I love the idea of the aniamted series affecting the comics. I just wish DC would learn more from the shows than just the costume designs or certain astetic qualities.
Supergirl has Kara In-Ze's outfit but still has the stupid backstory of Matrix/EarthboundAngel/nowshesBuffy.
They get a guy like Ed McGuiness to draw Superman but he's stuck drawing Superman eating pie and crying to a shrink insted of doing the kind of grand scope superhero action that made STAS so very cool.
Hell in my estimation, the animated series havent effect the comics *enough*.

And Bats isn't?
That's the problem. John's personality on JL is practically a carbon-copy of Batman's. He needs his own unique personality, like he has in the comics.

It isn't a carbon copy because John's personality is more military and straight forward army man you know like a part of Bats personality that is emphasised on.

Batman: One of the reasons why Bruce became Batman is because of his past or as Joker like to say "Crying for Mommy and Daddy's attention" :p
GL: The reason why John is so headstrong is because when your saving the world and you have a guy who think everythging is a joke :cough The Flash: you have to be forward about stuff.
Batman is more than a loner than GL. GL has friends and is more "army man" than Batman is "the loner"

That was Ian Churchill, if we're thinking of the same issue. And Superman eating pie and milking cows... that's the core of Superman... he's an all-American farm boy. That was especially evident in SUPERMAN under Loeb and McGuinness. I thought that nobody was better fit to draw under Loeb (aside from the infinitely talented Tim Sale,) than was Ed McGuinness. You need that flashy, eye-catching artwork in stories that so strongly deal with the humanity of Clark. And without such substantial stories, would McGuinness's art have had so much value?

While I would agree that his art without a good story is waste, I also think that having his art without bold bombastic superhero action is a waste. (and yes I know he drew the Doomsday fight in that one issue but it was an exception in the run.)
The thing is, the americana farmboy is only *one* aspect of Superman not the whole thing. If anything the flaw in Loebs work is that..metaphorically speaking, we never leave the farm. Even when we're Metropolis or Krypton or wherever.
STAS had the perfect balance to work from. He was neither dopey farmboy nor god. Neither SUPERman or superMAN.
He was SUPERMAN.
He was bred in Kansas certainally, and thought of himself as Clark. But he also had a healthy acceptance of his unique heritage. Willingly answered to the name of "Kal-El". He also stood steadfast and faced his responsibilities in victory or defeat.
I dont know, maybe its the simple fact that on STAS they played him as a superhero. *The* superhero. The man and the legend. Whereas in the comics they are always wrestling back and forth between him being an icon or being a man and in the middle being almost hesitiant to let him be a superhero. Since apparently Frank Miller, Alan Moore and Mark Milar told us we can't do that anymore or something.

Just wanted to note that after reading Green Lantern #155, I think the transition was abrupt and poorly done. -_-

Oh yeah!! AC/DC Rocks!! And so does John Stewart from the JL cartoon...especially on "Metamorphosis." I don't know what everyone's problem with him is anyway.
