Yeah..another one of those comparison threads.. :p

So..which one DO you like better? I prefer VH1...they aren't as..how do I say it... stupid as MTV is. MTV plays the worst shows..and....MTV does stand for "Music Television" right? Cuz..well...I RARELY see anything Musical on it. You ever seen "Undressed" ? That has jack squat about music on it......

VH1 is definetly better. At least the hows they have are entertaining and intresting. MTV is all aobut "NSYNC's Most Awesomest Videos" or something like that. You know what I mean...

MTV has nothing I like to watch right now. Are they going to be doing new episodes of Undergrads? They have so much potential, but I think they waste it on shows like Jackass and Undressed. Undressed is the worst series ever, with lower production standards than day time soaps. I hate that show!

VH1 has better series, and I like several of their original movies. I am also really looking forward to the new Strange Frequencies series. I will be sure to watch that to see how it is!

But does anybody here have MTV2? They play a great variety of music, and I hear new songs way before the radio stations around here are calling them "new."

VH1. I really don't care for the current trends in music (boy bands, Britney, etc.) or the frankly stupid stuff that MTV runs like Undressed, Jackass, etc. Plus, Behind the Music is always interesting, even if it's about someone you don't really like. I watched the entire episode on Vanilla Ice, for chrissake! Pop Up Video is fun too. I don't watch a whole lot of music-related TV (is MTV still music-related?) but when I do it's usually VH1, or on rare occasions MTV2 which has some good videos. I agree with Calhoun, I think they show some older stuff on there, it is much better than MTV.

Not sure which to say, because I usually only watch either network when they play actual music... and I mean full songs, not the 1/4-song-crap you see on TRL... of course that's usually at like 3 AM =X

However, if I were to turn my tv to a music channel during the daylight hours, it would probably go to VH1. They manage to keep their "non-music" programming music oriented, unlike MTV who'll do anything for ratings... I do, however, try to tune in to the not-so-"Real World" on MTV every Thursday... pretty much the only reality TV I'll watch... altho, I've seen bits of that Murder in Small Town X show and that seemed kinda intriguing... but that's a whole 'nother issue...

Real World's on Tuesdays! :O) But yeah, aside from having Real World, MTV's got nothing on VH1. They got rid of 120 Minutes! It was their best music show. I think it's on MTV2 now, but lucky me--I don't have it! :O(

Neither. While I get both MTV and VH-1 I can't stand either. I prefer the Canuck channel Muchmusic becuase they actually play music. They only have about 2 - 3 hours a day of non-music oriented programming. The rest of the day is made up of music blocks. PLus we get specific blocks of punk music, rock, rapheavy stuff, techno, pop, etc...and the top 30 countdown. I think Muchmusic plays more music in a day than MTV does in a week.

I haven't watched either in a while, but in the past I've preferred VH1 because it had better programming. At the moment, I'm not sure if that's still true or not. I like Behind the Music, The List (which may not be on anymore), and a lot of the concert footage they've shown. I'm a huge Beatles fan and on many occassions they've shown Beatles videos, McCartney concerts and interviews, etc. I've loved that.

The one that actually shows videos on a regular basis. Wait, that's neither of them.

VH1 usually annoys me less, since MTV tries to be too hip for its own good. I thought my frustration with that channel was because I'm rapidly becoming an old fart, but the younger folks I've talked to have noticed the same things.

M2 is a godsend... but if they only showed it around here! I know a friend whose parents (across the state) get it, and every time he visits he takes a tape, pops it in the VCR and records M2 for eight hours or so.

Then again, I hear MTV is really going to revive its animation block, so maybe there's hope.

I perfer neither. I watch MuchMusic USA and I'm hoping I'll get MTV2. A 24 - hr. music network, who would've thought? LOL...

MTV2 is a total godsend. A great channel.

And Vince - MuchMusicUSA? Got any more info on this? I thought there was only one MuchMusic channel (MuchMoreMusic not included).

MTV2 is definetly the place for great music videos. I'm not a huge fan, I'd never seen any of Bjork's stuff, but they played it and it was weird but cool. It's also the first place that played anything by Linkin Park, a new fave of mine...

DG, check out the official MMUSA site (http://www.mmusa.tv) for more info about it. The channel is owned by Cablevision Corp., my local television company.

Well, at least, MMUSA is partly owned by Cablevision Corp. and Rainbow Media (which NBC, Cablevision and MGM have a stake in, however, MGM has no stake in MMUSA, just Raindow Media).

I love the Andy Dick show on MTV, best thing on there. Besides that I sometimes watch Real World and maybe Spyder Games. As for music videos, I have my TiVo setup to record them so it doesn't matter what time they're on - I'll watch'm whenever I feel like it and fast forward through the crap.

Andy Dick is funny, but I keep forgetting when his show is on. I REALLY loved the Lyricists Lougne Show on MTV, their comedy variety show. I would buy that series on DVD I loved it so much.

Another thing MTV2 has going for it...120 Minutes!!!! And they often have some good concerts on after wards.

I'm going to have to go with DG on this one. MuchMusic is so much better. It actually lives up to its name!

I usually whatch the Deathmatch and Undergrads(what happened to it. I discover it's existence one day, then two weeks later, it's gone?) but I prefer Vh1. When I was younger my mother banned Mtv so I found Vh1 and found it to be much better that the other so began to whatch it more commonly. when I snuck Mtv in, most of the shows suck Deathmatch is the only thing that keeps my intrest about that station

You know, it's really interesting that Deathmatch seems to be the only animated show they haven't jerked around with much on the network. Their other animated shows are so hard to keep up with, if you can find them on the air at all. I was thinking that I hope they don't get the new animated Spider Man, becuase they will jerk it around the schedule and you won't be able to keep up with it.

VH1, better shows. I watch MTV occassionally whenever there is a good music video....mostly watch MTV2(Yup...I have it ^^ it's very happy....have yet to see the boy band/super teeny bopper vids on it. )

Mr. Eye - it's cool that they ACTUALLY Play music. Plus they have the best VJs around. A nice variety of VJs and the fact that they make fun of themselves, the channel, musical acts, etc, gives the channel a great feel to it.

If they continued to play music videos on MTV, nobody would pay to get MTV 2. VH1 is the old person version of MTV. Personally, I don't watch either.

Calhoun07

I don't pay for MTV2, it comes with my basic cable package. I hope they leave it on there, too, if others have to pay for it!

I know what you mean. My faves are Rick the Temp and Rachel Perry (although she's gone now). The new girl VJ isn't that good though.

Oh yeah! One more thing that MuchMusic has that MTV doesn't. ED THE SOCK!!!! :) I can't believe I forgot about him. I find myself rolling on the groun laughing after I hear his comments.

It's odd sounding, but it's true. VH1 is like, the older person versian of MTV. MTV became too full of itself and now it's all just crap. Although I do like to catch Undergrads and The Andy Dick show whenever I can.

But at those late hours of the night, when both play back to back music, I find not only does VH1 play more different varieties of music, but they play what I like. It's like they know, meanwhile MTV doesn't care, and just wants to put on what's new and popular. That's the part I hate most....

I can see where you are coming from saying VH1 is an older person's MTV, cuz when it came out first, it showed more videos my MOM liked than what I liked. Of course, now I am older...hmmm....maybe you do have a point there! But I think they kinda appeal to a larger range of demographics now than when they first started out!

Bud 'n Lou

Guess what? I have MTV2 now! My mom just discovered that we now have like a hundred new channels (not an exaggeration..in fact it may be more) including MTV2. We have the digital cable package, and I guess Comcast just got these channels. We have BBC, the Sundance Channel (two of 'em!), the Mystery, Action, Romance, etc Channels from Encore, the Toon Disney Channel, etc. YAY!!!

Man, I am jealous! You just found this out? This sounds like you all didn't know you had it before! Is it a free trial? I've been thinking about getting digital cable, but I am so undecided between just keeping my basic cable, getting digital cable (which I really don't know if I could afford, or want to afford for that matter. I don't need all the movie channels that come with it, and that seems to me to be about 90% of it) or just getting some kind of satellite service, tho I don't know what the best would be there. Direct TV would be the obvious choice, but nobody can tell me if there is any satellite service that picks up some of these cool Canadian channels I've been hearing about.

Bud 'n Lou
08-23-2001, 09:18 PM
[/I]We've had digital cable for a few months now. It's a fairly new service from our cable company, so they've still been tweaking things, like the menus and stuff. They've also added some channels in the past that we didn't have when we first got it, but never this many. We had like 8 HBO's, and now we have 12. All the premium channels have multiplied. We even now have several MTV's, VH1, and Disneys'. There's a bunch of Discovery Channels, at least 30 Pay-Per-View stations, innumerable sports channels (gag), several "radio stations" (each plays a different genre of music) and at least a dozen porn channels (Yuck. All I need right now is my brother trying to force me to watch the Playboy Channel).
As for the cost? Pfft. I dunno! Not my concern. Ask the folks. :O)

Mr. Eye
08-23-2001, 11:06 PM
The best three canadian channels that you might want calhoun, are Space: The Imaginion Station, MuchMusic, Teletoon and maybe TSN (it's a really good channel, but then again so is ESPN).

Mr. Eye

Calhoun07
08-24-2001, 12:26 AM
TSN is a sports channel? I will pass. I wish satellite TV wasn't just all about sports channels.

Still have no clue if I could pick these up on any kind of satellite TV service, tho.
