New Oblongs tonight.
And I think we need to set some ground rules over these review threads. Like who can post them. I'd hate to see this become a competition over who can post the review thread first. :/
Or maybe just do like the other boards do and have single talkback threads for only new programming.
I like it this way though.

How about we just let mods start the review threads? It'll probably be you most of the time, but if you're on vacation or forget or something, me or one of the other mods will take care of it.
If the mods haven't started a review thread once we're a half hour into AS (11:30 for ASA, 10:30 for ASC), then anyone can start it. Sound good?

Heh.
Mooninites remind me of the Revenge of the Mooninites episode... at the end after Carl heats up their moon juices. =) Anyone notice that Ignignoc says "Air Conditioning Turn On" as the ship comes in? Sounds just like "Main Screen Turn On" from All Your Base Are Belong To Us...

For those who counted, how many Juicy Fruit commercials aired during Adult Swim??

I don't know how many of those god awful Juicy Fruit commercials there were tonight, but I did see the Ripping Friends commercial. Now, I don't want to offend those that like it, but good God, this looks like crap. I'd rather have Baby Blues back. *sigh* How many months til Futurama shows up to save me?

I didn't know there were that many, all I got was local advertisements. Stupid Cox Orange County hacks into the signal....

Harvey Birdman--wow, you guys were right--this IS the worst episode. Sure, there were a few funny moments (like when Birdman was looking around Boo Boo's cave and finding evidence that he's the Unabooboo) but the whole thing seemed rushed. And I don't think extending the show to 30 minutes would be a good idea--the show can barely be funny for 15 minutes, much less 30. Also, the animation really bothered me with this episode--it was really really bad. I mean, I'm looking elsewhere on Cartoon Network, at shows like He-Man and Samurai Jack, and those shows have great animation and (obviously) huge budgets (OK, more He-Man than Samurai Jack). Then we get to Adult Swim, and all the shows have choppy animation and all look like Internet Flash cartoons, it's kinda obvious that CN doesn't have a lot of faith in this "Adult Swim" thing working out.
Didn't get to see Sealab, which is a shame because I've only seen that episode once and I really don't remember what happened in it. Oh well.
ATHF--duh, best episode ever.
Brak Show--I love the song in this episode. "Three hams will killlllllll him~~!" Classic. Zorak's underused, though.
Overall, an OK night. Next weekend we get to see "Shaggy Busted" rerun for the second time in two weeks, and other than that...um...new Oblongs. By the way, anyone know how "uncut" Adult Swim's version of Ripping Friends will be? I mean, what was censored out in the first place?

It's not faith. CN has faith in Adult Swim, or else they would not have purchased Futurama. CN is a cable company, who doesn't have the kind of funding or household viewing that broadcasting networks have. A traditionally animated original primetime adult-targeted series usually costs 800,000 to over 1,000,000 dollars an episode; something cable can't usually afford to risk. Since AS ads generate more money than ads for the rest of the network, CN is using these cheap shows like Sealab and Home Movies to raise advertising revenue, so that maybe someday they WILL be able to pay for an original $1 mil per episode show. They're just looking for the right show to animate. They don't want to spend that much money to find out that in the end the show is a total failure.

ASC Review 9/23
I did something new this week, I recorded AS through my capture card and am never going analog again.
HM-Generally regarded as the best post-season 1 episode, "The Party was not quite as good as I remember. It is still very good though. Very poigniant(sp?). A
Oblongs-This show just gets worse and worse. I don't remember finding anything funny. E
Mission Hill-This was good, as usual for MH. Kind of rare, this had one major plot, instead of several unique subplots. A
Veering off topic, it sucks so much that this is going to be gone in two weeks, replaced by a Fox Kids! kidtoon and 12:30 Oblongs repeats? Who the hell is going to watch a 12:30 Oblongs repeat? Oh well, at least it not being replaced by a Baby Blues repeat.
HB:AAL- Average, I think it's the second worst, right behind Shaggy Busted, as that was just pot jokes that had been done a million times before. This is still not horrible, contains several choice bits, including the interogation video, Reducto's chaos theory, and the weirdest ending ever. C
Off Topic again, does anyone else find the Birdman opening vaguely similar to the Cowboy Bebop opening?
Sealab 2021-Great Sealab, I've seen it well over 10 times and am still entertained. What can I say that hasn't already been said? This is the first time I noticed marco singing the CHiPs theme. A
ATHF-Words cannot describe this episode. It was the first great ATHF, and it made me a fan. Again, what can I say that hasn't already been said. A+
Brak Show-One of the better Brak Shows. Tight plot, good use of all the characters and "One Fish Lake". B+
SG-It's surprising how much this show has eveolved over the years. It's kind of weird without a plot. I didn't much care for the first one, as the first guest was very, very annoying. But CHiPs was great, especially because I had seen the episodes the clips were taken from. 1:C, 2:B+
Overall a good night, not much new, but some old favorites and SG's that I haven't seen.
Home Movies - As usual, another great episode. This show is a split hair away from replacing Space Ghost as my favorite AS show of all time.
Grade: A-
The Oblongs - Starts off kinda slow for the show, yet gets a lot better towards the middle. Next weeks episode looks to be very promising.
Grade: B
Mission Hill - Watched South Park instead, as usual.
No Grade.
Harvey Birdman - Good episode, but it doesn't really pick up till towards the end when Birdman searches around Boo Boos cave.
Grade: B
Sealab 2021 - One of my favorite episodes, and am glad to finally get this recorded on tape. It does drag for a couple of seconds here and there, but an overall strong episode.
Grade: A
Aqua Teen Hunger Force - The first episode I ever saw of this show, and probably my favorite of the series. Still crack up at the end when the moonite is flipping off the earth and talks about how he hopes they can see it.
Grade: A+
The Brak Show - One of the better shows with some funny lines from Zorak "What are you doing still alive? Oh, right, it's only tuesday...." but still the weak link to ASC this week.
Grade: C
Space Ghost - Haven't seen these for a long time, so it was good to have 'em air last night. Great as usual.
Grade: A-
Ripping Friends Commercials - Uncut, huh? Missed it on Fox Kids, so won't be able to tell what'll be added in. Gotta be honest and say that this is the first ASC show I'm not looking forward to seeing being added to the lineup. Will give it a chance, just don't know how well it'll fit.
Grade: B-

Wish I'd counted. But I really didn't feel like it. I try to block those damned ads out. I don't LIKE Juicy Fruit, never have, and definitely never will now.
As for what I saw:
HM: Only saw the second half due to panicking at 10 because I accidentally uninstalled something important from my laptop and needed to have my dad help me fix it. I'm so good at screwing myself over. Anyway, I remember this episode, and I sorta liked it, but it started to get weak.. and then McGuirk came in and saved it. Hurrah! Fenton sucks.
Oblongs: I haven't ever personally heard of a Suggestion Box working before, so I thought that cruel humor was perfectly fine. I liked this episode okay, it had moments. Not very memorable epi though.. I'm having problems recalling it, in fact. And although I taped it (and Mission Hill), my sister decided to watch MI first. So I'll maybe review it later.
MH: It was okay the first time, okay this time. Not one of my favorite episodes, but apparently my sister's really liking it. She thinks Ronnie's hilarious.
*insert break where I decided to listen to a bit of music and go to bed*
SGC2C: Whee, old stuff. Good times. And CHiPs.
Now Frontier shall reclaim my soul. Ta ta for this week.

ATHF--duh, best episode ever.
I find it amusing that you rip HB a new one on comedy and animation levels while praising ATHF. ATHF has the same "Flash Animation" look as HB (and Sealab for that matter). People seem to be so rooted in their old-time AS shows. New ones are just taking up space that could be filled by the now-gone-classics... or something.
Personally, I think HB has excellent humor, if you can put your mind in a deranged-altered-state-mode. It's not far off the offbeat Sealab either. Yes, it hits on the same bad jokes that have been made before, but it's still funny.
I think with a lot of ASC, people get in the mindset that their favorite shows are the only good ones and they'll try to find fault in others as much as possible. Thus they're able to say "X show sucks! Why is it taking up valuable space in the ASC block that can be taken up by Y show?!?!"
It's like MH... I used to only watch ATHF and Sealab, but I've recently started watching more of ASC, including MH. Now MH isn't going to make me laugh uncontrollably and rewind the TiVo countless times like "No one can defeat the quad laser! The bullet is enormous, there is no escaping!!", but it's still a GOOD show, it just works on a different level.
Bottom line: Deal. =)

What was blanked out of The Oblongs when the guy says "I'm going back to France, you (blank)." I've never seen CN blank something out like that. Was it a word we've never heard on AS before?

As usual, don't have too much to say about ASC, I'll keep it short.
Even though there isn't much comedy in it, Home Movies is quickly becoming my favorite of the ASC shows I watch. Ooblongs was good for the first few weeks but since then has never been anything outstanding, and I haven't exactly cared for the last couple of week's episodes of Mission Hill either. Fenton and Jason's candy tirade pushed HM to number one with me this week. Coach is growing on me too. It doesn't exactly fit as a comedy show, atleast IMO, although it is well written. Ooblongs was pretty bad outside of the Suggestion Box furnace thing and the revelation that they were actually selling Morphine :p Mission Hill was just plain dull. Even though it has been dull for a few weeks I'm not too happy that they're taking it off the air soon...

Home Movies- good episode, guite humorus, Coach Mcguirk is as always great but a little underused- 8.9
The Oblongs-6.7
Mission Hill- one of my favorite episodes- 9.0
Harvey Birdman: Attorney at Law- in my opinion this is one of the worst episodes, this just dosen't have what other episodes have, sure it has it's moments but it just dosen't stand up to great episodes like Shaggy Busted, and The Dabba Don- 8.5
Sealab 2021- A funny episode but not as funny as some, still it's Sealab, and when is there ever a Bad time for pudding- 9.4
Aqua Teen Hunger Force- This episode is only topped by the sequel, the moononites are just brilliant- 10.0 Max Score!!!
The Brak Show- one of the all time best- 9.5
Space Ghost Coast to Coast- Episode 3- Elevator- Not the best episode, his guests are pretty annoying and it's not really that fuuny- 8.2
Quote: "Space Ghost: 'Okay! That's it! Let's go get some tacos!'"
Episode 4- CHiPs- I like this one it's actally pretty funny- 8.8
Quote: "Bill Carter: 'I wish I had a dollar for every time I've been asked 'why is late night important?''
Space Ghost: 'So, if you've been asked that say twelve times, then you'd have uh...'
Bill Carter: 'I don't know...'
Space Ghost: 'Let's see....that's one dollar at twelve times... about, 93 Dollars!'"
Overall- 8.777...

People seem to be so rooted in their old-time AS shows. New ones are just taking up space that could be filled by the now-gone-classics... or something.
Well, IMO, the Unabooboo was the worst episode of the series, all because of the humor (or lack of). And I thought I was including ATHF and Sealab and the other shows when I said:
mean, I'm looking elsewhere on Cartoon Network, at shows like He-Man and Samurai Jack, and those shows have great animation and (obviously) huge budgets (OK, more He-Man than Samurai Jack). "...all the shows" isn't just talking about Harvey Birdman, it's talking about...well, "all the shows." Well, all the WS stuff anyway. Last night's HB stuck out for me because the humor was so bad, so I was paying attention to other aspects of the show. Aspects like the really cheap animation. I honestly don't care if the show is just a bunch of still images, as long as it's funny.
It's not faith. CN has faith in Adult Swim, or else they would not have purchased Futurama. CN is a cable company, who doesn't have the kind of funding or household viewing that broadcasting networks have. I remember reading something recently where the CN guys were talking about their acquisition of Futurama and commenting that "we thought this thing [Adult Swim] would be cancelled after a week!" So CN was reluctant to invest in this "Adult Swim" block. And we hear about how AS has a very small budget, how the WS shows have really crappy animation as a result, how AS has trouble getting sponsers other than Yaffa and Juicy Fruit...and then they go and pay $10 million for Futurama reruns. And then you look at Toonami and see He-Man, which could have been done for a LOT LESS MONEY, but no--WS or CN or whoever shelled out the big bucks to make every episode look like a theatrical movie. I'm just saying that CN could spread the wealth a little more, that's all.
EDIT: Grammar mess-ups

CN would NEVER say that they thought Adult Swim would be cancelled.
You must be thinking the creators of the shows themselves, and those types are ALWAYS self-depreciative.
The reason the budget is so small is because Williams Streets limits themselves. By keeping a low budget, they won't have nosy censorship-type suits wandering around wondering where the money is going.
Futurama cost that much because..well... FOX likes to charge lots of money. They think they're the big cheese.
And as for He-Man, the theatrical look is the only thing it's got going for it, seeing as the writing is completely ass, so take that away and you have something almost as bad as TF: Armada.*
And, finally, what wealth? CN is like.. the dust in AOL TW's pocket. You know.. the kind where your pants have two pockets on each side and you only have one? I'm talking about the one you don't use. You know what I'm talking about.
*(IMHO)

You act like sponsorship on AS has been hideously poor. If anything, it's gotten better. You can tell because you almost never see interstitials anymore, and the number of AS self-promotional ads has dipped slightly. AS has been getting new advertisers like Playstation, X-Box, Bandai, Greyhound, Holiday Inn, endless music records and labels, and so on.

I think that the cheap animation used in the WS shows is part of what makes them so funny. They look so cheesey and poorly animated like their 60's/70's counterparts that the weird animation itself is just one extra thing to laugh at. I wouldn't have those particular shows any other way.

I generally only watch AS until about 10:30, because that's how much my beloved TiVo records.
Home Movies: One of my favorite episodes. It does a great job making you truly hate Fenton and be genuinely happy when Coach McGuirk sets him straight. A
Oblongs: I generally don't really like Oblongs, but I felt myself actually getting pretty good laughs out of several parts of this one. What's wrong with me? B-
Mission Hill: Hell, every Mission Hill episode rules in my book. A+
Why does Mission Hill have to go away? Why?
Note to self: record more Adult Swim.

Here's something I noticed - in the episode of Sealab, Marco says he is going to give the monster a lethal dose of "Vitamin M." In the Chickmate episode, he says to "Black Debbie" "Sounds like you need a shot of Vitamin M!" (with the obvious connotation). Does this mean he intended to have sex with the monster?!

He always says that. It's like his catchphrase. He even said it to Master Loo.
