I'm suprised with how much they got away with, little nekked Goku, and even Bulma taking a pee.

Does it come on right after DBZ, or what? I missed it.

5:30. I missed it too. I've been getting out of the habit of watching CN this summer, what with all the repeats, so I guess I need to get back into that habit. I missed Samurai Jack too.:( But I'm sure it'll be on again.

Yeah, I've been missing S.J. also. Thanks for the info!

Now the original Dragon Ball...THAT was genuinely entertaining. Low, tasteless humour, weird landscapes, and amusing, NO drag-on battles. Dragon Ball was at its best here...!

I also like this the best out of the three series. Plus Goku isn't the strongest anymore, even Krillen was stronger then Son Goku when they met.

I don't really watch DBZ but I saw the ad for this and got a kick out of little kids beating the crap out of guys.

It just started this past Monday, and I'm happy to say I didn't miss much of it. I've just been busy doing things I wanted to do cuz this week I get to use my dad's car since he's on vacation.
Krillin and Goku are my two favorite characters, so this is a nice little treat. And if the Dragonball episodes aren't going to be as badly dragged out, dubbed, and edited as Dragonball Z, then we're DEFINITELY in for a treat.

I think that it was censored yesterday. I read somewhere that Roshi actually wants to see Bulma's Panties, not her bellybutton. Then when she shows him her panties, she's not wearing any! :D

It's funny you should mention that little edit Croc, cuz I remember hearing just that myself. I wonder what other edited suprises we'll be getting....er ah I mean not getting since they'll be edited.

--in today's episode, Goku was trussed up in a dress to fool some maiden-stealing giant named Oolong (isn't that a type of tea?) Oolong was distracted by Bulma's prettiness, which gave Goku a chance to slip away. When Oolong returned his attention to the "girl", he saw Goku, skirt pulled up, relieving himself--and flipped out. I howled with laughter.
I figured that old turtle hermit saw more than the lass' navel. That's why that buggardly cloud of his didn't work for him. Nasty-minded old geezer....

Yeah, there are definite moments when you can tell there are edits. I figured dirty old Roshi wanted to see more than bellybutton. That story would make sense, since Roshi seemed to look kind of embarassed once he saw the "bellybutton." I think that I saw a couple of things that were probably changed from the original today but can't remember what they were. If I see anything like that tomorrow I'll post it. You can kind of tell when they happen when the characters react differently than it seems they should. No way Roshi would have been embarassed about just a bellybutton.:)

What I dig about this show is that unlike the later Dragon Balls, which focused on epic fights, the emphasis here is on adventure and trippy, tasteless humour. And the fights here also rock as they are so danged hilarious to watch (and shorter!). And wait until they get to Jiji (or is it Gigi?).

I also like that whole "Jonury to the west" angle they gave Son Goku. You know, the Niyo-bo/Power Pole, Candy Cloud/Flying Nimbus, the Monkey's tail and everything.

Can I see your bellybutton? HAHAHA, that's the best FUNi can do. Not that bad though. They cut out the first flash where it shows Buruma's bare ass, but atleast they kept the second one instead of cutting the whole scene out completely. When she flashes Kamesennin for a second time, all you see is Burumas bellybutton. So using the word bellybutton was pretty clever, and it still gets the message across that Kamesennin is a pervert. We'll see how they do with the other inappropriate scenes.

Yeah, Kamesennin was the strongest, and Gokuu would whoop Kuririn in a fight.

The underpants on Goku after swimming were definitely fake.
I also wonder if what they said to make Oolong poop was "Piggy piggy piggy"

I think it was pee pee. I read this on some site where they gave the description for the magna volumes and it has bulma saying pee pee to make him take a dump.

Well, I rented the 1995 video versons of Dragonball and they edited the part when Bulma show her bellybutton or panty, Goku kick the giant fish in his underwear, and they didn't show any wacky effects and firecrackers shooting when Oolong is using the bathroom every time when Bulma yelled "piggy" or "pee pee".
I think the CN version is better than the video verson;)

Yep, they redubbed the first 13 eppy's which is up to where Kuririn was first seen. I wonder what they''ll do when Kuririn has to fight Bacterian in the first round of the 21st Tenkaichi Budoukai.
My favroite fight is still Japanese episode 95-96, which was Goku v.s. Kuririn.:)

well, seeing bulma taking a piss isnt' that bad, considering toriyama went above and beyond with having bulma not wear any underwear at all during that whole episode, as many people have already mentioned.
plus, i don't know if any of you know this, but in that epsiode, gokou wakes up early that morning and ventures into bulma's bedroom to do some investigating (hey, kids will be kids.) he later goes on to climb into bulma's bed, lifts up her shirt, and starts to observe her crotch, wondering why she doesn't have male parts like he does. and then to make matters worse, he starts tapping her area and performing some more manual observations.
and also, if i remember correctly, the fcc removed the shower scene w/ bulma in which yamcha sees her in the buff (for obvious reasons)...
geez, who would have ever thought toriyama was such a perv!

I'm sorry...I shouldn't, but I do find this quite hilarious. :D
Man, this is some tasteless lowball humour--Toriyama has gone too far!...But that's why this show was SO much better than the later ones...;)

Oh I dunno. Even though it's a lot more about fighting in the DBZ time line, I think I sort of like it better. And I've liked all the DBZ stories so far, cuz they'd have somewhat involved things like the dragonballs, or the Red Ribbon Army, stretching all the way from Dragonball to the Android Saga.
But what I like most is, the further along you go, the less likely you'll see the strange animated fights. Like those fights that consist of two frames of animation going back and forth, hurting your eyes, saying "Ya ya ya ya ya ya ya" over and over.
For example, in the android saga at one point I remember Goku and Cell were fighting, and not only were they NOT doing the twichy animated fighting described above, but the screen angle was also moving around them 360 fassion. I thought that looked really cool.
Anyway, I wonder how this new stuff is gonna fair....

They shouldn't, althought you have the "Sayiaman saga" first, which is Just Gohan hiding his powers and doing simple stuff for him, and as Mr. Satan(or Hercule) would say about Goku and Gohan... "Its a Trick... It's all a trick!"

I've seen some of the tapes, it's not that bad, the music still sucks through. I just hope they don't change what Majin Bejita said to Trunks right before he used his "Utimate Skill attack" on Majin Buu.

I think we call this, "They got a bigger budget to work with." You do know that Japan doesn't have as much money to throw at its productions as, say, America, right?
I think it's getting better, though. Anime productions are much shorter than the used to be (26 episode average these days as opposed to 40-50 episodes in the 1980s), so they can keep the quality high without stretching the budget too thin. Only marketing juggernauts like DBZ and Pokemon have to keep going with a shoestring budget because the sponsors tell them to. Although as you said, the cheapskate sponsors finally decided to give the animators more money to work with in the later DBZ episodes.
That's why you see so many shortcut animated scenes in a lot of anime. It is not so much "strange" as it is "trying to save money and still tell the story." They simply don't have the budgets Americans have.

i don't mean to put a damper on this whole thread, but i see a lot of people are saying things like "i hope funimation doesn't ruin this" and "i hope funimation translates this better." i reality, guys, funimation has almost nothing to do with what actually goes into each episode. sure, they're the masterminds that produce the whole series and get it on the air, but the editting and cutting is pretty much left for the FCC to handle.
so when we state all our expectations for the buu saga, let's look towards the FCC doing a better job in streamlining the stories rather than funiimation. :)

We're not talking about the editing, at least I'm not anyway. I was talking about the script, they change alot of what the character's say, and for no reason sometimes. I'm just hopeing they don't mess with what Bejita says to Trunks while fighting Majin Buu. His character came full circle in the part I'm talking about.

No, I'm gonna look towards FUNimation. FCC is responsible for the censoring. Some of the stuff deserved to be censored and some not. That's one thing, but changing the scripts, music, names, plots, scenes that would have been appropriate anyways. All of that isn't necessary.

True, they didn't need to change any of this. But it's too late for the music seeing as FUNI has a contract with faulconer. As for the scripts, they could be better but they are starting to use the japanese script. The names well...at least they let Piccolo call himself MaJunior at the 25th Tenkaichi Budoukai.

I saw that one too. Muten Roshi asked Bulma for a date with an older woman, the turtle said that was dirty, and Bulma seemed embarassed for no reason. I'm glad they kept most of it in but I'll probably just get more fansubs. I luv Shuu and Mai- even have a cel with 'em...

The original Son Gohan, who found Goku, used to let the monkey boy rest his head in his crotch. Goku liked the cushion feeling, but was puzzled when Bulma flipped out because he asked if he could rest in hers. Then, he sneaks in one morning to rest his head there. But it's not cushiony.... So, Goku removes her underwear and is horrified to see nothing there. Bulma awakes to him freaking out about "missing balls" and rushes to the Dragonballs. Presumably Goku returns the panties into the drawer at that point, once he's calmed down. And Bulma finds them after the whole bit with Roshi. :D
