Comments on today's action-packed episode of BLT:

"Comfort Level"
Plot: Sylvester loses his "blankey" at naptime. The babies split up and search for it. Sylvester and Taz tear apart the nursery and the kitchen. Bugs and Lola wander around the house. Daffy and Tweety search the playground. SPOILER WARNING: In the end, it turns out Granny had washed Sylvester's blanket.

Things I learned from this cartoon:
* Sylvester is a big wimp.
* Granny apparently leaves these small children unattended in her huge house for long periods of time.

"Twinkle Twinkle Baby Looney Star"

Notes:
* At one point during this song, we see Baby Sylvester with a menacing look on his face sneaking up on Baby Tweety. Tweety then squirts him with milk from his bottle. I was in shock. The characters actually acted like they would in an old cartoon. I'm sure it was a mistake and won't happen again.

"Like a Duck to Water"
Plot: Baby Daffy is afraid of swimming in the kiddie pool. He overcomes his fear when Bugs and Lola tell him to pretend it's a big bathtub (all the BLTs love bathtime, you see).

Things I learned from this cartoon:
* Every BLT cartoon seems to begin with a long sequence of the babies at play that doesn't have much to do with the plot. I guess they have to fill time somehow.

Notes:
* Daffy went "woo-hoo" again.

The episode was pretty boring, but I did laugh at the bumper where the CN announcer said: "I like Lola... I just don't know who she is." :p

This show sounds similar to an episode of "Rugrats." (yes, I watched Rugrats before it started to stink...) Chuckie loses his favorite stuffed lion and he and the other babies search for it. It turns out the lion was just being washed.

The Baby "Looney" Tunes version Sylvester acts more like a bland Claude Cat (the version used in the Frisky Puppy cartoons) based on what I have seen.

Thanks for mentioning this, I can add it to my "woo-hoo" list without having to watch it :p

Does Granny ever change their diapers?! They never take them off, not even to go to bed, or go swimming or bathtime!

Just think of the diaper rash!!!

I don't see why they have to wear diapers at all. Just because their infants doesn't mean they wear those things.

Oh, I dunno...I think Granny would have a tough time keeping things clean with diaperless babies running around that aren't potty trained yet!

What I don't get is why she doesn't get them bathing suits or pajamas!

Well, that's pretty much how "Muppet Babies" began too. I guess, they stole that idea. Lol.

*giggles* That's pretty bad, when the network the show airs on makes fun of it!:)

It also sounds very similar to an episode of The Power Puff Girls. Buttercup believed that her lucky blanket made her a great fighter, and when she couldn't find it she lost her confidence. Turns out the Professor washed it.

Maybe this is just a traditional plot line when dealing with cartoons that feature baby or small child characters. Similar to the sitcom traditional plot line of having a character mail an angry letter to his boss, only to regret it later and spend the rest of the episode trying to retrieve the letter before his boss reads it.

Well, the show has one perk! During the "Mary had a baby duck" song, they showed Baby Pepe (as well as Babies Petunia and Melissa)

Cute, even though they had the no-diapers thing going...:)

I re-watched this scene last night, and it appears Sylvester wasn't sneaking up on Tweety. He was actually attempting to snatch a ball of yarn (?? --- it was a ball of something) out of Tweety's cage.

Also, no comments on today's (9/18/02) show from me. My VCR's timer didn't work for some reason. Perhaps it was trying to tell me something...

Cartoon Network often makes fun of the programs it runs, especially in the voice-over comments on the commercial bumpers: "Scooby and the gang will be right back- and by the way, the villian's a guy in a mask."

There's a hilarious filler between shows in which we see old footage of assorted H-B characters endlessly walking past the usual endless lookalike doorways and end tables. Love when an upset, confused Fred (in vivid Carlo Vinci animation circa 1961) says to Barney, via silent-movie caption, "I don't know where I'm going- I think I'm lost." :D

When CN had SPEED RACER reruns, there was a filler that had the old stills of Speed 'thinking' while sweating profusely under a new voice-over parodying the series' breathless rapid-fire translated dialogue in a decent imitation of Speed's voice. ("IhavetowinthisraceforPoporI'llbeadisappointmenttohimbutfirstI-havetocometotermswithmyfearsofRacerX-") We'd then see old footage of the race starting and then Pop jumping back and forth, and yelling (with a new voice-over), "Speed! The race started! Stop talking to yourself and drive!"

Not as funny as the DEXTER'S LAB parody MOCK 5, but gutsy. You don't see Nick making fun of its shows.

So CN is openly admitting that Lola has no business being a regular on any LT-based show.

Ya know gang~

This reminds me of the wonderful scene from Animaniacs where they'd burrowed into Hell!!! And the huge cloven-hoofed Worf-sounding Satan was then threatening them with the most ghastly eternal torment he could think of... (and it showed a caricature)... being locked away for all eternity listening to a whiny-voiced '60's protest singer!!! Undoubtedly the Evil One is setting up a new burning, scalding cavern as we speak replete with all the episodes of "Baby Looney Tunes" as the most brutal torture humans could be forced to endure... ;) ;)

*giggles* I wonder if CN will start making jabs about the diaper-wearing (or lack thereof) situation too!:)

Just to add to this:

It also is very similar to an early episode of Garfield and Friends. Except in this one, Garfield had his blanket through the entire cartoon. It was his teddy bear that was missing. Garfield dressed up as "The Caped Avenger" and enlisted Odie as his sidekick, "Slurp", to find that b'ar. Turns out Jon washed Garfield's stuffed toy when he wasn't looking. Oh, and Odie got to star in a comic book published by a guy voiced by Larry Storch.

The way I see it, yeah there are a lot of classic storylines that get recyled over and over and over again. But different shows usually have the decency to take that plot and give it a neat twist. For instance:

*The Garfield example that was mentioned.
*In Rugrats, when Tommy loses his stuffed lion, he goes on a mini-rebellion, with the thought that he's not going to sit there and put up with his mom taking his toys away from him. (it's only after the fact that he learnes it was washed.)
*The Muppet Babies episode where Baby Gonzo loses his stuffed chicken Camilla. He goes on an accusatory binge, accusing his friends of stealing her, and then does this whole James Bond thing to try and save her. That was pretty cool!:) (And yeah, it turned out nanny had washed her).

The Baby Looney Tunes however...there was nothing interesting about that. The blanket gets lost, and.........they look for it. Big deal!

Now, kids may LIKE predictable to a degree, but they also like things that are interesting. So far, baby Looney Tunes has yet to deem itself interesting, and unless it picks up soon, it's going to lose its young audience.

You're right, it was Tommy. I was getting my Rugrats mixed up. Been ages since I've watched it.

Gads, it's scary how much I know about the show.... but let's face it, the early Rugrats were great! I watched them all the time!:)

Well, unfortunately, those 'jerk babies' have hogged up screen time that rightfully is supposed to belong to CATDOG!!!!! And I am sick and tired of JERKelodeon harassing us the way they are with a show that should have been long gone!! But no!! And you know why?? Because JERKelodeon INSISTED on giving that Klasky-Csupo junk studio a long-term contract that Peter Hannan was supposed to have!!! Not to mention Mitch Schauer and his "Angry Beavers", along with Jhonen Vasquez and his "Invader Zim"!!
But what happens?? JERKelodeon gives the other crappy Klasky-Csupo junk more airtime and yanks out of decent time slots the REAL Nicktoons that are the TRUE anchors of the network: "CatDog", "Angry Beavers", and "Zim".
Of course, they do now have "Tiny Toons", but the other zany Spielberg/Amblin success, "Animaniacs", is relegated to just first thing Weekend Mornings!! AND need I mention JERKelodeon's ignorance has lead to the extremely popular "CatDog" only airing after "Animaniacs", as well as another hour Sunday Afternoons!!!
And since "Tiny Toons" is on JERKelodeon, then there had to be something that could be somewhat parallel to the classic "Looney Tunes" on CN. So, a series tailored for the very young reflective of the classic "Muppet Babies" from the 1980s and early 1990s, and much better than those 'jerk babies' who should finally be yanked off the air due to illegal maneuvers from JERKelodeon that were not supposed to be done whatsoever!!
The "Slime Time" block is totally WRONG in the middle, NO DUH!!!

By the way, today's show (9-20-02) had Daffy claiming he didn't need to know about time, but in a dream sequence, he was alone in the house, doing everything he wanted- sort of- until some surprising situations occurred in which Daffy needed to know the time, but he couldn't. The music video segment spotlighted Taz, and the second short featured the gang playing badminton, with Daffy using a toy copter whirled above Taz so Daffy's team could win. But it turned out Lola's competitive idea wasn't quite what she hoped, and all the time Taz was the one who had the real fun while everyone else was trying to win. So................

Reminder: You may have a Broadcast Network affiliate airing a "Baby Looney Tunes" show tomorrow morning. Check local listings. :bosko:

I saw that episode this morning! The episode where Baby Daffy's alone in the house was perfect! There were wild takes, insane situations, and much more livelier than usual. Too bad it was only a dream.. As for the rest of the show, I didn't like the second episode (then again, I'm not too fond of Baby Lola), and the song was okay.

What I learned today from BLT, Time is important. "It's 3:00 A.m. and way past your bedtime" Granny.

On the second short, we learn the values of playing sports and enjoying them without winning.
