Chiaki J. Konaka, Story Editor for Big O 2, has posted an update on his website describing briefly how the first series was made, why it was not continued (despite its success in Japan), how it eventually got continued (thanks to both American and Japanese support), and a bit about how they're working on the second season.

You can find the original page here (http://www.konaka.com/alice6/big-o/) and a translated (slightly better than Babelfish) English version here (http://www.konaka.com/alice6/big-o/index-e.html).

Prepare for the Sudden Impact.

They said it would be best to air the original 13 episodes first.

Cartoon Network, are you listening?

I'm amazed CN has even considered showing Season2 w/o broadcasting Season1 first. The network as a whole has probably garnered many, many new fans since Big O was last shown, who wouldn't have a clue as to what in the hell Big O 2 is talking about.

Heck, I've seen Season1 twice, and I still want them to show it again. Nothing wrong with a refresher!

But if they show Season 1 first, then we'd have to wait longer for Season 2. I wanna see it as soon as possible. :(

But I suppose it would be best to show BO1 first, so anyone who missed it can catch up. Or at least a recap short before they show BO2.

I'd be perfectly happy for them to re-broadcast Big O 1 before showing Big O 2; it just makes more sense to bring the entire audience up to speed (especially since the final episode of BO1 was a cliffhanger; if the first episode of BO2 starts where that one leaves off, people who haven't seen BO1 will be horribly confused).

But, at any rate, it's coming, it's coming - WHOO-HOO!!! :D :D :D

(I love Big O!)

I agree, I want them to show Big O 1 again because I've seen but I don't remember the story to well. Besides it would be cool to see it again just for everyone else.

I don't think that any "catch-up" short could possibly come even close to taking the place of watching the first 13 episodes in their entirety. There's a HELLUVA lot of stuff that's revealed only in the subtext, which would quite simply be impossible to recap.

I could've sworn they've shown season 1 before. Still, I agree it would be nice if it were shown. Maybe they could do a saturday marathon leading up to the Big O 2 premeire?

I think they meantioned somewhere that they were considering airing Big O 1, but wanted to see if they could get a ess-edited version first.

To be honest, in most animes isn't the start of the new season's episode usually a recap episode? Besides, they could probably pull one off that would continue where they left off AND explain some of the last season.

Well, let me word that better. CN should broadcast Big O Season1 on Adult Swim before they broadcast Season2. Should have been more clear on that, sorry.

they need to show as much Big O as possible...
that series is too good...
I love Big O...
I even programmed my cell phone to say "Cast in the name of God Ye not Guilty" when I turn it on...

I disagree. I could see a short that recapped the events in the final episode of the first season (Ep. 13, R.D.) the same way they had that little short in front of Ep. 2 (Dorothy, Dorothy) that explained Ep. 1 (Roger the Negotiator) but they couldn't possibly recap the whole first season in one half-hour episode.

Many animes with simplistic plots can do that, yes... but many, if not most animes that take themselves seriously as art (Cowboy Bebop being a perfect example, Serial Experiments Lain and Boogiepop Phantom being good ones as well) don't even try.

Actually, Lain did have a recap episode (first half of ep 11). It was very unconventional and had things all out of order, but nonetheless it was a recap. Pretty much the only big flaw I saw in the show, didn't appreciate them wasting half an ep like that in such a short series.

Oops, guess I missed that one. Silly me. (-:

Even so, given your reaction to it, I'm kinda glad I missed it... and it just proves my point even more.
