Now this is what I like, a contest for the avid video game players, and not the general public. So far, it has been the cult favorites who have been ruling the polls. Mario's popularity means nothing becuase virtually everyone who has been voting has played FF7, Mortal Kombat, and MGS.

It is ridiculous that a legend like Mario is even relatively close to losing to Cloud, who was in only one freaking game.

Personally, I'm a little dissapointed. If you go for pure impact and all that, Sonic should not have lost to Metroid. Sure, it's based on fans and all that, but Metroid has had 2 memorable games (1 NES, 1 SNES), while Sonic has had countless great games. To me, that places him just a little above her.

I think the big deal is, is well, you are not the only one voting, and other people have differing opinions than you. And to say FF is overrated? Look at all the other game characters Cloud and Sephiroth went up against. You can't exactly say it's all a big "David vs Goliath" match. It's all "Goliath vs Goliath."

Everyone has a right to their own opinion. Like I said before, the poll mainly consist of people who spend all day on the internet or play video games, the fanboys. I still like it, so far it has been a treat to watch all of the close votes, though in the contest standings I am not doing so well.

Is FF overrated? Not really. But it has been blown out of proportion. FF7 and FF8 were revolutionary in the 3D RPG format, but they were simply great games. But you know how most cult followings work, you have a group of people (in the votes so far this has been the majority) who practically worship certain characters. Mario has the most games, so a group supports him. Square-obsessed video gamers will pick any Square icon, whether Crono, Cloud, or otherwise. It goes on like that. Cool down folks, this poll is just for fun, even the webmaster at GameFAQs warned people to NOT, I repeat NOT take this whole thing seriously ;) .

Well, right now, Mario is going up against Crono of the game Chrono Trigger. As of the time of this post, Mario is winning, but only by 56 votes. Only 56! Frankly, I'm shocked.

I love Chrono Trigger as much as the next guy. In fact, the first time I played it is one of my fondest video game moments of all time.

However, I'm pretty surprised that that many people voted Crono over Mario, who is, arguably, gaming's biggest icon. Anyway, I'm not trying to complain about the results, I'm just saying I'm really surprised.

Goliath vs Goliath? It was basicaly David vs Goliath for the first matches. Terry Bogard <Goliath> vs Aye Brea <David>. Aye made a clean sweep win with 36637 votes beating Terry's 19929 votes. You know why she won? She an RPG character! Its a dam RPG fan site! Also Aya's a beautiful blond. RPG fans allways get a chubby for polygon girls. They don't anything about one of the greatest fighting game characters of all time! If they did he would've won! :mad: Then their was Iori vs Duke Nukem. Of course Duke Nukem would win because he's a gun slinging pervert! The RPG fans also in real life be gun slinging perverts who get the girls. Guy, you're going to have to expect this. Terry is an SNK character, and most of the videogaming world has yet to play a single SNK game, let alone remember the characters from said games.

Um no **** Sherlock Homes I know its a First Person Shooter (but it started out as a 2nd person shooter :rolleyes: ) And don't forget this is an RPG fan site basicaly. RPG fans are known to become a role of a character (Duh! :p ) How many people do you know who want to be a musclebound hero who allways gets the girl?.......................My point exactly. ;) And RPG fans are the most addictive of this catogory mostly judging on their lives wasted away in front of the tv or computer. When they play something like Final Fantasy, Diablo, or Grandia they'er so inspired in the game that they want to be like the character. Strong, brave, daring, popular, or sexy. Even though they mostly don't do it in real life, mentally they're trying to make themselves a better person than what they allready are. Thats why I made that coment.

I'd be happy to prove it to you if we can arrange a survey. :) Besides that all of the people in my town I know <903 yatta yatta yatta> are complete RPG fanitcs and yes they DO stay indoors all day and into the early morning an even as I type are playing Diablo, Everquest, Dungon Seige, Final Fantasy X, Skies of Arcadia, Grandia 2, and Chrono Cross. And I woked in a couple of underground gaming stores so I see these people every day to update on what they did, then head back to the home after a quick meal.

You too have forgoten that GameFaqs is mostly a RPG Fan Boy site. And yes I am a SNK fanboy, but that dosen't mean I don't play anything else. And I'm more of a loner to the cult of asians who hog the KOF2001 machine all day. :rolleyes: I too have played Duke Nukem on the PC even before the 3D started. And I own both Parasite Eve's and beaten the first one and left off on the 2nd one somewhere <damit I've got to go back. :mad:) and basically any other game that has come out the past 18 years or so. When I see a fight between Aye and Terry it dosen't seem right unless I made Aye, Blue Mary. Yet I went more towards the story backgrounds of the characters. Terry was an orphen who was brought up with his brother by a powerful fighter who became his father. Soon he was killed off by Geese Howard. At that instant he trained over 1/2 his life to become as powerful as his father and even stronger than his brother. He's won many toutraments, traveled as a loner, and made many friends with other fighter he met who look up to him as the most powerful man in the world. He soon proved this at the KOF tourtament and defeated Geese, sadly durning the tourtament his girlfriend and master were also killed. Terry would later encounter Geese a few more years until he avenged his father's death and finished him off. Now Aye Brea's story is basically the same. She too had a tragic loss when her mother and sister died in a car accident. In the accident she damaged her left eye and needed a transplant from her sister, Maya. Aye then became determined to become a police officer to stop another accident like that from happening again. <now the fiction starts ;) > Yet in 1997 Maya comes back from the dead and is slowly taking over NYC like a similar incedent in Japan <read the book or watch the movie to know>. After 6 days of intense combat with supernatural creatures, Aya defeats her sister Maya. Now when I put the two story together I basicaly the most believable <Matt-"Video games aren't real. They're videogames." :rolleyes: > or touching story and the most powerful character. So when I look at it again its Man with special moves vs Woman with gun. Who will win? :D So don't think I just choose Terry or Iori because I like SNK games. :mad:

His story and game has captured the attention of gamers everywhere and is on the top 10 list of the best PS2 games so far.
