Well, woke up early enough, and managed to catch my first episode of "Mucha Lucha", the Flash-animated series. Got to see as well just what "Flash" animation looks like (not willing to subject my old computer to try running it)--movements-wise, it reminded me of the way Karen and Kirby moved on the "host" segments of the "Big Cartoonie Show" (*sigh*...all right: the "Cat and Bunny Lois Lane-y Superman-y Big Smallville Show").

First segment: Ricochet (whose name kept making me think of "Ricochet Rabbit" of Hanna-Barbera fame) needs a signature wrestling move. He winds up violating wrestlers' rules and tries to buy one illegally, only to get into trouble.

Second segment: The Flea gets sent to the "bad guy wrestlers' classroom". His friends try to rescue him, with chaotic results.

The show does seem to be "Acme Looniversity" meets "WWE" meets "some guy showing off a new animation program on his new dual-processor Power Mac." None of the characters made a huge impact on me, though I thought the Flea had his moments (particularly when trying to explain why he couldn't be a "bad guy"). The other amusing part: in the first segment, during the chase scene where the elderly parade-marchers are shown.

While it might have some future ahead of it (not sure if it'll be the "obligatory KWB show that gets cancelled by Columbus Day"), not sure it's "breakout hit" material....

May tune back in from time to time, but probably wouldn't get up early to tune in for it...

Meanwhile, also see various ads on ABC promoting "ABC Kids" (using kids frolicking on a soccer field with Recycled Stock Footage™ characters from "Teamo Supremo", "Kim Possible", etc.)...

I saw this too. The animation style isn't too different from Powerpuff Girls, IMO. Swift movements, thick lines, the weird moving mouths...it's all pretty similar. Generally, I kind of like the visual style and colour design.

As a show it's fairly amusing, I guess. When you strip aay the jazzed-up lucha wrestling concept, it isn't too different from your typical "schoolkid" show like "Recess" or "Detention." Kid has one personal crisis--friends yak and "help"--kid solves personal crisis.

I can't see this having a long lifespan either. I'm also not sure how far they can take the concept before it quickly loses its flavour.
