Let's just say that the cartoon cartoons we watch 2day were made in the 1950's. out of all of them, do you think that any would not have been shown because of content, or would they have been edited? it's a very different world now, would they have allowed Cow and Chicken or something like that? What do you think?

if you meant the '50s
They'll be geared towards the more adult age audiences (humor-wise not content-wise). The art styles would be a lot less abstract and less asian looking.

if you meant the '70s
Well, if you meant TV cartoons I think they'll be geared towards a less broad and more younger age audience. Sometimes, I think The Simpsons revolutionized the humor of many cartoons (compare a cartoon before and after) so I'd expect many stale and cheesy puns as jokes (see Scooby-Doo for example)

I don't think any of them would've made it onto the airways back then. Not necessarily due to content, but just because they would've looked too weird and different for the tastes of the times.

And, in the case of the Powerpuff Girls, the notion of *little girls* as Superheros would've gotten Craig McCracken scornfully laughed out of the studios ("Come up with a big brother to save 'em every ep and maybe we'll talk!")

LOL, so sad but true.

Hmm, while the PPGs wouldn't have made it as animated characters (what Sharklady said, plus the idea of producing a whole series with female characters as the leads in itself would've probably been unthinkable), they might've made it as comic book characters (Supergirl, a teenager, was created in 1959, and Wonder Woman was around through the 50's)...however, the tone would certainly be much different than what we'd expect. It probably would've been targeted at children moreso than other comics at the time (being, of course, little girls and all) and probably showing them as more "girlish"...or as Sharklady put it, there'd be some male super-figure around to help the girls out (a *lot*). And of course, they'd be drawn in a much more realistic manner (no anime influences). Plots would probably play the whole idea of little girls as superheroes off for laughs, in a 1950's/60's way ("girls as superheroes? Haw!"). Of course, since the Girls aren't based on pre-existing male superheroes, they'd have that working against them sales-wise/in terms of getting created ("so, are there Powerpuff *Boys*somewhere, McCracken?").

Thanks to the restrictive (at the time) Comics Code, HIM wouldn't be in it (demonic entity, plus they'd probably perceive his personality as "suggestions of being sexually perverse" [i.e., heterosexuals only]). The "sexually suggestive" traits that the Code was also meant to eliminate (some non-superhero early 50's pre-Code comics had women rather scantily clad) would also eliminiate Sedusa. Without Japanese influences (the Godzilla movies probably not picking up in popularity until the 60's), Mojo wouldn't be around either. Of course, since the idea of little girls as superheroes would be pretty ludicrous, and given that gangsters were the main popular target in 1950's-era superhero stories, their enemies/adventures would probably consist of fighting gangsters (comedically) sometimes, but mainly using their powers to deal with "appropriate" situations---- the main foe in 50's-style PPG stories I suspect would probably be Princess.

Of course, the one other big thing working against the Girls being created as comic characters in the 50's (besides their gender) would be that superheroes weren't very popular for most of the decade---"funny animal" characters, westerns, etc. were much more popular for most of the early and mid 50's. Thus, I'd also expect to see lots of comedic stories where the Girls (and their superpowered older brother who's the *real* "hero") were in a Western situation....

That was....lengthy.
