From the Aug. 25 - 31 TV GUIDE:

CHEERS to portraits of the artists. The Cartoon Network's nightly showcase of classic Warner Bros. toons does what no other presentation of Bugs and Co. ever has: It groups the shorts by animator. So Chuck Jones, Bob Clampett, Tex Avery and Friz Freleng draw as much attention as Daffy, Tweety, and the other Looneys. Each of these directors had his own style, and every brushstroke deserves our recognition.

It's nice to see these shows get some media attention... even though they aren't "nightly" and there isn't a Friz Freleng Show...

Ah, our efforts are supported by a mainstream publication! Let's hope that there will be a Freleng Show and a McKimson show to UTTERLY PREEMPT scooby-doo from the weekday rotation. (Or at least time-compress scooby doo. They deserve it)

Well, for a couple of weeks, CN was airing "The Chuck Jones Show featuring Robert McKimson," but that seems to be straightened out, and all we've gotten lately is "The Chuck Jones Show featuring Abe Levitow, Ben Washam or Jim Pabian."

Also, on the topic of -- ugh -- Scooby Doo, I was flipping through whatever damn movie they were showing of the miserable Great Dane over the weekend (aren't those breeds supposed to have heart attacks and die after only about 10 years?) when I noticed that someone in Hanna-Barbera's layout department had knocked about 50 pounds off Velma for this latest movie -- She was now about the same size as Daphanie.

Now, this may not be as poltically incorrect as the Scooby-Shaggy chinamen disguises of circa 1970, but given the touchy nature of the people at AOL Time-Warner, I'm sure a group of overweight people could stage a protest in front of their New York offices claiming bias against overweight people in this cartoon, and maybe we could at least get this one Scooby movie taken off the air. It's a start, anyway.

I got my issue of TV Guide yesterday & I was a bit confused about their "Cheer" also. The only WB directors who have thier own showcase programs are Chuck Jones, Bob Clampett and Tex Avery. Funny, I don't recall these shows being on every night!

Now if only someone over there at CN would recognize that there is indeed a hunger for a "Friz Freleng Show" and to a lesser degree, a "Robert McKimson" show. For both these shows, they could spotlight not just their directing skills, but their early days at Warners as animators (remember, Freleng used to animate Bosko cartoons!).

You hear that, CN?;)
