I originally posted this in the W.B. forum, but this look like a better place for my question. Here goes:

A.

I'm looking for a W/B cartoon for a friend's 40th birthday. The one element I remember is a puppy (Frisky Puppy?) riding in a car passing a dog who shouts at him, with a heavy Scottish brogue, "What arrrrre ya doin' in that fancy carrrrrrr?" My hunting around has lead me to believe it might be "Two's a Crowd" from 1950. Can anyone confirm this?

B.

If I identify this cartoon, where can I buy the sucker?

Thanks,

Bob

Not sure, it sounds a lot like "Porky's Pooch," but that doesn't have Charlie in it, just a dog who acts just like Charlie. It has the Scottish dog in it. My only other guess would be "Little Orphan Airedale," with is sort of a remake of "Porky's Pooch." I don't remember the Scottish dog in that one, though.

Okay, so maybe I didn't help any...

Jack:D A toot, a plunk, and whistle and boom, has nothing to do with it, it was Disney 53 or 54, and you know it..Hope all is well..oldtoonguy:D

I'm 99% sure its called "Porky's Pooch". That has the joke at the beginning where the Scottish dog tightens his belt to "Empty" because he's so hungry, and the pupils of his eyes watching the flapjacks spin around.

As far as where to find it, well, I know it's on the Columbia House Looney Tunes series. There's also a really nice filtered print on the "Inside Termite Terrace" tapes.

I stand corrected (again) (sigh)

The one with the very scottish terrier is 'Porky's Pooch' - the original b/w is on Bosko Video's 'Inside Termite Terrace Vol I) - a colorized version is on PD releases (try the 'Cartoon Explosion' titles.

The cartoon is indeed "Porky's Pooch", which was later remade by Jones as "Little Orphan Airedale". Unfortunately, the print CN airs is the redrawn version, although there is a 1990 computer-colored print available. CN sometimes shows the B&W version on LNB&W, so try to catch it if you can...:p

Gentlemen:

Thanks for the info! It looks like "Porky's Pooch" was re-released in color as "Little Orphan Airedale" in 1947.

Happyheathen, you mentioned "'Inside Termite Terrace Vol I" and " PD releases ". Any more info (links?) where I can buy these?

Thanks again.

Bob

You can go to www.facets.org and get a copy of the Whole Toon Catalogue. The catalog has many public domain videos and some factory-issued tapes. Check them out.

Robert,
It is also on the Shokus Video #103. This one is in B&W. I watched it last nite.

Thanks for the replies! However, I'm still not clear on where I can find 1947's "Little Orphan Airedale" on video. Shokus has "Porky's Pooch" but not "Little Orphan"

Any other sources?

Thanks,

Bob

--on PD tapes, but be warned: I've got one that lists "Porky's Pooch" on the table of contents, but instead shows a short about Porky and a racehorse! I didn't get terribly angry since I've seen "Pooch", and it also has a couple of un-PC shorts with Negro caricatures CN doesn't have the cojones to air...but again, caveat emptor, bub!

Porky's Pooch is the cartoon you want. It's on Shokus #103

After numerous calls and an e-mail to Shokus, I finally received this reply today:

"Hello - as of May, 2001, Shokus Video has ceased the distribution of all of its cartoon tapes. Thank you anyway for your interest."

I've also struck out at Facets.org, Warner Brother's, etc. I had no idea what I was getting myself into, but I'm not quitting yet. Anyone else have an idea where to look?

Happyheathen suggested "PD Releases". Can anyone tell me what that is?

Thanks yet again,

Bob

Now why would a company misrepresent a title? It's pretty obvious...Porky's Pooch is not 1939's Porky And Teabiscuit!

PD releases are tapes consisting of cartoons that are not copyrighted. So, basically anyone can make a tape with a PD (short for Public Domain) cartoon on it and sell it. If Facets hasn't worked out for you, a good place to find PD tapes is dollar stores, though I have seen Cartoon Explosion tapes (one of the many kinds of PD tapes) at Best Buy.

As Larry T. said, Porky's Pooch is also on the video "Looney Tunes Canine Corps" from Columbia House.

After doing a quick search at www.facets.org I have found that they still have Inside Termite Terrace Vol. 1, so if you really need the cartoon I suggest you order that from them. Just do a search for "inside termite terrace" and see for yourself, Porky's Pooch is listed there in the contents.
