View Full Version : WWE Summerslam Prediction Thread
Andy Mancini

Well, it's 2:00 Thursady, and I am in desparate need for something to do until Verizon Wireless calls for my phone interview, so I decided to make a prediction thread for Sunday's Summerslam. First off, here are the matches:
WWE Undisputed Championship
- The Rock (c) vs. Brock Lesnar
WWE Intercontinental Championship
- Chris Benoit (c) vs. Rob Van Dam
WWE Tag Team Championship
- Christian and Lance Storm (c) vs. Booker T and Goldust
- Shawn Michaels vs. Triple H
- Chris Jericho vs. Ric Flair
- Test vs. The Undertaker
- Kurt Angle vs. Rey Mysterio
- Edge vs. Eddie Guerrero
And here are my predictions:
Edge vs. Eddie Guerrero - I'm not exactly sure what this match has to do with anything. I'll take a wild guess and say Guerrero wins.
Kurt Angle vs. Rey Mysterio - They were actually building towards this one. I bet Mysterio wins, mainly to continue Angle's "everyone is out to get me" angle he doing for a couple of weeks now.
Test vs. The Undertaker - I don't really think anyone cares about this one. I say Test wins after interferrence by Lance Storm and Christian.
Chris Jericho vs. Ric Flair - I bet that Flair wins and then after the match announces that he is retiring from wrestling.
Shawn Michaels vs. Triple H - This one is a no-brainer. They have been setting up for weeks theat HBK was "old and weak" and that Triple H was going to "cripple him". They pretty did everything short of having Bischoff come out and say "Shawn Michaels will win on Sunday". They made him look like the underdog, and in this situation, the underdog always wins.
Christian and Lance Storm (c) vs. Booker T and Goldust (WWE Tag Team Championship) - Let's face it: The UnAmericans don't have a snowball's chance in hell to win. The fact is, Booker T and Goldust are presently the only face tag team out there, and Rosey and Jamal (The Island Boys) can't beat upon midgets, women, and the elderly forever. The outcome: Booker T and Goldust easily win.
Chris Benoit (c) vs. Rob Van Dam (WWE Intercontinental Championship) - Another no-brainer. The Intercontinental title needs to be at Smackdown for a little while. I bet Benoit wins after a botched interference attempt by Eric Bischoff.
The Rock (c) vs. Brock Lesnar (WWE Undisputed Championship) - Everyone knows that Brock is going to win. It's how he's going to win that's the question. I bet that both Hulk Hogan and Paul Heyman have their hands in this one.

For once, I don't know who will win, so I will actually buy the PPV myself and watch.
I am not sure if the Rock is really going to beat Brock and take off again, but I'm pretty sure HBK is going beat Triple H in some way or another. The rest are toss-ups, but I am willing to watch them live.
Later.

Edge vs Eddie Guerrero - Edge seems like the guy to go over here.
Undertaker vs Test - bwahahaha Undertaker, of course.
Flair vs. Jericho - I actually give Flair better odds of going over here than in past matches, but I still gotta give this one to Jericho. If Raw did nothing else on Monday, they did a good job of making me interested in this match.
Kurt Angle vs Rey Mysterio - I'm going out on a limb and giving this one to Rey. A recent article said that WWE Smackdown was the top show among hispanics, and Rey would be the top face for that demographic. Rey wins here; rematch at Unforgiven.
Booker T and Goldust vs Lance Storm and Christian (Tag Team Titles) - UnAmericans retain the titles here so they can drop them to some "Real Americans" or something at the 9/9 Raw (9/11 patriotism and all that).
Rob Van Dam vs Chris Benoit (Intercontinental Title) - Wow... I'm having a tough time with this one. I'm going to pick Benoit to retain after Big Tool comes out and screws everything up.
Triple H vs Shawn Michaels - I can't see Shawn winning a "one-time only" match. But then again, maybe all the "one-time only" stuff is a swerve... I'm still sticking to Cripple H here.
Rocky vs Brocky (Undisputed World Heavyweight Title) - I had picked as far back as King of the Ring that Rock would retain here and drop the title to angle on free TV. But I've lost confidence in that in just the last two weeks. Rock hasn't been thrilling in his usual way, and Brock now seems like a real threat. I've gone from 3-1 odds in favor of Rock to 3-2 in favor of Brock. I see a "mutual respect" handshake between Rock and the new champion. Brock goes face until Royal Rumble when he turns on the fans, and we await a "hero" to dethrone him at Summerslam. Brock hasn't impressed too much in the ring, but he's at the point that he can get away with that wrestling WWE's best, as long as he doesn't hurt that momentum with any sloppy matches.
Wow. No European, Cruiserweight, Hardcore, or women's title on the line. Just the three that really count. While I hope they squeeze some kind of cruiserweight match in the card, something feels right about that.
A lot more varied responses here than the last few cards. This should be a fun one.

WWE Undiputed Title
Rock vs. Brock Lesnar
Brock . . . . .duh. And he still won't be getting the reaction WWE wants him to as "The Next Big Thing".
WWE Intercontinental Championship
- Chris Benoit (c) vs. Rob Van Dam
This is gonna be the match of the night. I'm thinking Benoit, with some clashing between Eazy E and the demon known as Stephanie
WWE Tag Team Championship
- Christian and Lance Storm (c) vs. Booker T and Goldust
While it seems likely that the Bookerman and the Gold one will win, I see them splittin soon so Booker can go for singles gold. They may win the tag Titles that night, but I seem them losing to the Un-Americans soon after.
Shawn Michaels vs. Triple H
Since this may be Shawn's last match for a while, if not ever, he may go out with a win, or and extremely brutal bloody loss, only to come back for the "real" last time, but maybe I'm thinking too long-term.
Chris Jericho vs. Ric Flair
Hmmmmmm. . . Here's one I've yet to figure out. One thing that is for sure. Flair will bleed. :p I'm gonna go with Y2J. Maybe now(or the Raw after SummerSlam) Ric may give that announcement that Jericho stopped, which is probably "retirement".
Test vs. The Undertaker
Undertaker will step it up this Sunday. As far as I'm concerned, this match is Test's test. We're gonna see if he can be the "Top Big Man" that WWE sees him becoming. Test with the win thanks to Lance and Christian.
Kurt Angle vs. Rey Mysterio
Ummm. . .I think I see Rey getting this one and finally going after the Cruiserweight title. Another point: Anyone see the stitches Kurt had in his head on Smackdown? Owwww. . .
Edge vs. Eddie Guerrero
Edge. . . .just to make all of the teenage girls in the crowd happy.
Also on Sunday Night Heat, I expect to see Raven vs. D'Lo Brown.

WWE Undisputed Championship
- The Rock (c) vs. Brock Lesnar
Winner: The Rock
I'm picking the Rock in a swerve. I mean the Rock isn't going to start shooting the movie that he is in immediately after the match is over. I think the Rock will drop the title on Monday at RAW or Tuesday at SmackDown!.
WWE Intercontinental Championship
- Chris Benoit (c) vs. Rob Van Dam
Winner: Chris Benoit, RVD
This match will end in a double pin in which two refs will get a three count on each wrestler. The IC title will be un-unified into two titles. The IC title will go to RAW and European title will go to SmackDown!
WWE Tag Team Championship
- Christian and Lance Storm (c) vs. Booker T and Goldust
Winner: Booker T, Goldust
I think T and Dust will win so that the Island Boys wil have face opponents at the next PPV
GOOD FRIENDS, BETTER ENEMIES
(The De Facto Main Event)
- Shawn Michaels vs. Triple H
Winner: Shawn Michaels
HBK will show that he still has the heart of a champion. I think Triple H will rough him some but in end HBK will prevail.
- Chris Jericho vs. Ric Flair
Winner: Jericho
Jericho wins because he desperate needs to win a match!
- Test vs. The Undertaker
Winner: Test
This will continue the UnAmericans' storyline
- Kurt Angle vs. Rey Mysterio
Winner: Angle
This will give Mysterio, Jr his first lose and give Mysterio, Jr a reason to go after the Cruiseweight title
- Edge vs. Eddie Guerrero
Winner: Eddie Guerrero
Eddie wins because he need a win desperately just like Jericho does.
I'm going to go out on a limb and say that Kane will make his return at SummerSlam.

WWE Undisputed Championship
The Rock vs. Brock Lesnar
Winner: Brock
C'mon, they have to put the title on him now, especially if Rock's gone after this, which he will be. They can't have Rock win because what can they say about his absence? Brock will destroy Rocky, making everyone think that Rock is gone because Brock beat him so badly. And another thing that's pretty obvious about this match: Hogan's Interference. Hogan has been off TV for a while now, making everyone think that he has no business being at Summerslam. I can see him coming in, Big booting and Leg Dropping Lesnar, Rock hit's the Peoples Elbow, everyone will think it's over, and then boom! Brock kicks out, and wins the match after going nuts and F-5ing the Rock. Or he will win with the...
…Shooting Star Press. Yes you heard me. Brock Lesnar will use the Shooting Star Press against The Rock this Sunday!
Triple H vs. HBK
Winner: HBK
He has to win! It would be just horrible if he came out of retirement, just to lose another match, and ruin his legacy. He’s going over no matter what!
WWE Intercontinental Championship
Chris Benoit vs. Rob Van Dam
Winner: Benoit
I see Benoit taking this one. He’s good with the belt, and has more people to compete against on Smackdown! than Rob has on Raw. They should keep Benoit strong for awhile, he can do good things with the IC title.
WWE Tag Team Championship
Lance Storm and Christian vs. Booker T and Goldust
Winner: Booker T and Goldust
I don’t know, but for some reason I think Kane is going to show up during this match. Don’t ask me why, I just have a feeling about this. Kane will come in during the match, knocking out the Un-American’s, and even knocking out Goldust, allowing a groggy Book to cover one of the Un-Americans. And if this doesn’t happen, I still see Booker T and Goldust going over in this match because of what Memphis Bleek said. It gives the Island Boys a Babyface team to go up against.
Kurt Angle vs. Rey Mystero Jr
Winner: Kurt Angle
You know, neither of these guys can afford to lose right now, espically Angle, so I’m going with him. Rey is so over with the fans, it doesn’t matter if he loses, it won’t hurt him at all. Also, if it’s a good match, it doesn’t matter if he loses because he will still look strong.
Chris Jericho vs. Ric Flair
Winner: Undecided
I have no clue who will win this match. I would love to see Jericho wins, he needs it, but I don’t know if that will happen. You have to keep in mind that announcement Flair was going to make awhile back. It’s probably about his retirement, so he just might go out (or just stop wrestling) with a win over Jericho. Or, Jericho will go over, and start to brag how he ended Flair’s career or made him decide to retire. Either way, this should be a good match.
Edit: Seeing how I'm going to get a score for my predictions, I can't really say Undecided, so I'm going with Y2J for this one. :D
Edge vs. Eddie Guerrero
Winner: Edge
Edge his so close to being one of the top guys. The kind of guy you have no problem seeing in a main event. So, I think a win over Eddie would be good for him, and it wouldn’t hurt Eddie too much, and once again, no matter what, this should be a great match!
Undertaker vs. Test
Winner: Taker
I don’t really care about this match, so I’m going to say Taker just because I can’t see him losing to a guy like Test.

Brock Lesner, even though I don't want him to win. I actually don't want either to be champ, but oh well, thats how things are... :(
WWE Intercontinental Championship
- Chris Benoit (c) vs. Rob Van Dam
RVD
WWE Tag Team Championship
- Christian and Lance Storm (c) vs. Booker T and Goldust
Booker T and Golddust.
- Shawn Michaels vs. Triple H
HHH, a no brainer. Hopefully Michaels will put together an adequate performance.

Why does everyone seem to think that immediatly after summerslam Rock has to head right to the set of the movie. He will either vacate the title, setting up some kind of tournament or lose it in a match on Raw or Smackdown.
This is actually the first PPV I have been really excited about in a long time. Who is actually going to order the PPV Sunday.

Here are my predictions just one day before:
WWE Undisputed Championship
- The Rock (c) vs. Brock Lesnar
Brock Lesnar because of the movie. And the reason it will NOT be lost on Raw or vacated was the last time it was lost anywhere other than a PPV was three years ago so don't count on the Rock keeping it.
WWE Intercontinental Championship
- Chris Benoit (c) vs. Rob Van Dam
RVD to bring it back to RAW
WWE Tag Team Championship
- Christian and Lance Storm (c) vs. Booker T and Goldust
The Book and The Freak
- Shawn Michaels vs. Triple H
Shawn Michaels. What better way to go?
- Chris Jericho vs. Ric Flair
Y2J. I hate him but I think he's gonna win.
- Test vs. The Undertaker
Test with interference from Kane.
- Kurt Angle vs. Rey Mysterio
Rey
- Edge vs. Eddie Guerrero

My picks....
Edge vs. Eddie Guerrero - Edge
Kurt Angle vs. Rey Mysterio - Rey
Test vs. The Undertaker - The Undertaker
Chris Jericho vs. Ric Flair - Y2J (Sorry, but Y2J rules!)
Shawn Michaels vs. Triple H - HBK
Christian and Lance Storm (c) vs. Booker T and Goldust (WWE Tag Team Championship) - Booker & Goldust
Chris Benoit (c) vs. Rob Van Dam (WWE Intercontinental Championship) - RVD
The Rock (c) vs. Brock Lesnar (WWE Undisputed Championship) - Oooooooh..... Hard to decide... But I have to pick Mr. Next Big Thing...

As SummerSlam quickly closes in, here are the predictions of the Toonzone braintrust:
Edge over Eddie Guerrero (7-5) djgir: "I'll take a wild guess and say Guerrero wins." That seems to be what everyone's doing here.
Undertaker over Test (7-5) Test hostility seems to be at an all-time low, as quite a few people think Test has a chance against the Phenom.
Jericho over Flair (7-4, 1 undecided) Will this be Flair's retirement match?
Rey Mysterio over Kurt Angle (8-4) Upset of the night!
Booker T and Goldust win the tag titles from "UnAmericans" Lance Storm and Christian (9-3) and Spike predicts that Kane will make his presence known here as well.
Chris Benoit retains the Intercontinental title over RVD (8-3, 1 draw) The draw is predicted by Memphis Bleek, as a means to create meaningful singles titles for both shows.
"The Heartbreak Kid" Shawn Michaels defeats Triple H (9-2, 1 undecided) Toonzone proclaims Game Over!!
"The Next Big Thing" Brock Lesnar takes the World Title from the Rock! (8-4) "Everyone knows that Brock is going to win,", says dj_gir. "It's how he's going to win that's the question." Hogan? Heyman? McMahon? Will Brock be a heel or face at the end? Perhaps a double heel-face turn with Rock and Hogan working together to cheat Brock out of the title?
Scores will be up by tomorrow morning... probably around 11 or 12 pacific time for you night owls.

Wait, wait, I'm in this too!
Edge vs. Eddie Guerrero
Edge will win this, I think, simply because of the two of them, he's up for a bigger push. He's a future (possible near future) main-eventer, and he needs this win way more.
Booker T and Goldust vs. Lance Storm and Christian
Call it a hunch, but I see the UnAmericans pulling out a win. I don't think putting the titles on the Book and the Gold Freak will do anything at this point, so I see the titles staying with the heels (and the longer term tag team).
Test vs. Undertaker
Undertaker already layed down for Test at RAW a couple weeks ago, and it ain't happening again. UT won't do the job for Test on PPV, so the deadman is a sure thing for this match.
Kurt Angle vs. Rey Mysterio
This is one of the harder ones to predict, but I'm going to say Mysterio. I think he needs this match more- he needs to be established as a legitimate force, and not just another cruiserweight. The ending won't necessarily be clean (Kane, anyone?) but I think Rey Rey will win, somehow.
Jericho vs. Flair
Flair achieves nothing from a win- Jericho, on the other hand, definitley needs a high profile PPV victory. Chalk this one up for Y2J.
Benoit vs. RVD
The title needs to stay on SmackDown! so Benoit will win. It's that simple.
HHH vs. HBK
Definitley Triple H. If he gets his ass kicked my a guy who's been out for four years in a "fight" he'll look way too bad. I think it might be bad to have two heel victories in a main event, but it's too obvious (watch me be totally wrong). Shawn is back for one match only, and he would be used much better to put over HHH rather than beat him.
Rock vs. Brock
No brainer. All hail the next big champ, Brock Lessnar.

For some reason, I'm surprised that HBK/HHH match ended the way it did. Shawn can't stop after what happened at the end of the match, but I'm just glad he pulled off a pretty good match. Heck, for this being MY first time purchasing a PPV since Shawn retired, I was pleasantly surprised. It was pretty good, but don't count on me buying another PPV, WWE, unless HBK gets some revenge! ;)
