I have a question concerning the call. I'm sure this had been answered at some point but i have to ask again. Why in the world did superman call batman to help him find the person trying to kill off the justice league memebers, if it was him. Isn't Batman of all people you call when you don't want someone to find out something. I mean he is a detective. I don't know i just don't quite understand it, i'd appreciate everyones input on this one.

First of all, welcome to the boards!

2nd of all, I assume it was to kill Batman. If the thing on Superman's chest was in control of him, then it probably wanted to get all major "hero's" out of the way. When it eliminated all of the JLU members, it'd go after Batman.

But then, why did it try to kill the JLU people first? And if it wanted to control them, why not just take a handful of starro guys in and slip them onto the JLU while they weren't prepared?

Basically: Either Starro wanted to kill them, or it wanted to control them. If it wanted to kill them, why bring in Batman and warn him that the accidents were assassination attempts? If it wanted to control them, it shouldn't have tried to kill them.

You know, the plot made so little sense (once we found out it was Superman who was the 'traitor') that when Starro first showed up, I half-suspected it would prove that this creature was itself somewhat deranged. When Aquagirl said, "It wanted to have Superman's powers" and then added "It's the last of its kind and it's very old" my first thought was: My God, this starfish thinks of itself as Superman, is senile or delusional, and is acting out of a pathetic attempt to save the JLU while unwittingly undermining it from the inside!

I don't know if that would have been a cooler way for the plot to unfold, but it would have been one way of explaining why the plot was full of holes: Because the "traitor" was a lunatic of some kind.

Oh, and welcome to the boards, creeper!

Aside from occasional questions of odd placed events, like those city explosions, I think Starro's probing of Superman's mind explains everything mostly. Starro knew that Superman knew in the back of his head even with all those powers, Batman would still be able to stop him if he was forced to.

So to bring Batman into the mix could add to the rest of the League's confusion and tempers. And possibly, maybe even Batman or the JLU members would distract each other enough by their suspicions that Starro won't be found out.

That's what I got out of it anyway.

I assumed that Superman had a small bit of control over himself and could control himself few times. His mind is strong and maybe he somehow got it into Starro to get SUperman. Then again Starro wanted to have power people udner his control and Batman is pretty powerful.

To me, it seemed like the creaters wanted you to believe that the reason superman called Batman to investigate the accidents at the JLU was b/c he wanted to cast suspicion away from himself. The whole episode was flawed if you ask me. The character designs were terrible, the JLU's super powers were lame, and the diolog was corny. Not to mention the plot.

Question: WHy wasn't Terry shocked to learn of the existance of extra-terrestrial life? (the starfish, not superman) I think The Call cheapened Batman Beyond. If your are correct in assuming that they would have expanded on the JLU had the series continued, I would have to say that I am glad it is ending.

I believe Superman still had control over himself at times like DG said. He probably didn't realize what he was doing under the possesion of Starro. Still, I wanna know who was blowing up the city in pt. 1 of the Call. I kinda doubt it was Superman being he was right there the whole time.
