I have never seen a Kevin Smith film. Until recently I didn't know who he was or what he was about. With all the attention surrounding his new movie, I decided to read one of his screenplays at my favorite free screenplay site: Simply Scripts.

I read three of his scripts in as many days; Clerks, Chasing Amy and Dogma, in that order. (I'll read Mallrats soon, I guess.) I liked all of them. Great dialogue. My favorite is probably Clerks. I was less impressed with the other two, but they were still fine peices of work.
I suggest all movie fans, especially aspiring writers/filmakers check out the link. The scripts are usually much better than the films, IMO.

I'd strongly recommend everyone seeing his films - they're all great. In my opinion, Chasing Amy is the best of them - great dialog, great message, great performances by the actors. Clerks is my second favorite, but the acting really sucks.

The great thin about Clerks is that it's REAL life. You know who these people are, heck, you may be one of them! Clerks is great, Mallrats is extremely funny, Chasing Amy is a great story about life again, and Dogma has a really good message. Add the 15 second cameo in Scream 3 by Jay and Silent Bob, and you've got everything. I can't wait for Friday. As soon as the first show starts, I'll be at the theater to see it....

I had no idea they made a cameo in Scream 3, this gives me a reason to watch it.

Chasing Amy would have to be my favorite too... I thought it was a great romantic movie for modern times, and Smith was brave enough to not give us a crappy ending. Of course, my friends tell me that I've got a soft spot for this one because I dated a lesbian myself for a while... don't ask.
Clerks is a sentimental favorite because I get such a kick out of Dante and Randall... also because of the World's Worst Coreographed Fight Scene. Compare that to the fights in Jay & Silent Bob, and you'll see that Smith has come a loooooong way.

Jay points out Courtney Cox and says something to the extent of "Hey Bob, There's that Connie [expletive deleted] Chung chick! Hey, how's Maury?" then she flips them off and they walk on. I bought the movie for $3, so it was worth it...
