...they think they can squeeze out some more money doing this, (http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&u=/variety/20020820/film_variety/phooey_1) at least according to a link at Jerry Beck's website.
Three questions -- Why does this have any reason to be filmed in live action, wiill they come up with a CGI Scatman Crouthers to do the voice, and based on this, should there be a website betting pool on what date the live action Jabberjaw movie is announced?

Well, for a 70's Hanna Barbera toon, this one was pretty cool. Yes, I admit, I kinda liked Hong Kong Phooey. But your questions are very valid...I'm not sure Crothers is even alive now. I think this one might be cool as a live action/CGI film, provided that they can pull it off smoothly. With that series, I'm sure they could take some liberties and make it pretty darn good...but judging by the way "Scooby Doo" flopped and the creative pool at WB right now appearing quite shallow...I have my doubts.

I have some advice to you, Brett Ratner...don't make this movie. Instead, spend the time you would spend making this movie to make Rush Hour 3...

I'm sorry I even thought of that. I'm going to sit in a corner and shake for awhile.

[and of course my hideous idiocy...]
And then in a move of financial brilliance, Danny DeVito is signed to play all the roles (including Smurfette) in a live-action "Smurfs... Back To The Forest" film. This would be followed (or foollowed ;) ) by nothing less than the much antipated "The Hair Bear Bunch Movie"...No word as yet whether such would be done in CGI or just have Freddie Prinze Jr. wearing big floppy hairy bear costumes in multiple roles with his lines dubbed over by Clint Eastwood and Arnold Schwarzenegger;) :D  :bosko:
...And then would come the finest of all... "Squiddly-Diddly, THE MOVIE " featuring of course a CGI lavender Squiddly... :p  ;) :D :) Additionally, Filmation is rumored to have gotten into the act and is negotiating instead for a co-production though tentatively titled "Squiddly-Diddly Meets The Groovie Goolies"... ;) :D

Matthew Hunter pondered:

Scatman Crothers died on November 22, 1986. The animated voice I remenber him for most was Scat Cat in Disney's The Aristocats.

judging by the way "Scooby Doo" flopped
So far, "Scooby Doo" has pulled in over $151 million domestically. It's not a blockbuster of "Spiderman"/"Attack of the Clones" caliber, but it's hardly a box office flop, either.
