In case one hasn't already mentioned this, "Naughty But Mice" was also the title for the 1947 Herman and Catnip cartoon.

Not quite -- it was the prototype for the Herman and Katnip series, with the basic formula being used over and over again from 1950-59, but the design of the cat was different from the Katnip that would arrive three years later (though they did use Sid Raymond's voice for the cat towards the end of the cartoon).

I had a P.D. tape which contained this, as some of you might remember; Sid only had one line, and for some reason a scene involving a coffin was edited.

I've got the same edit on my version. Other than that it's a beautiful copy for a PD tape, with good sound, bright colors and the original opening and closing Paramount logos.
