New Home Movies and Oblongs.

I think this was the best Home Movies of season 3 so far. The poem jokes, the fat jokes and all the Movie parodies at the end.

Easily one of the funniest episodes of Home Movies ever.

Made classic by the Fight Club parody.

Brendon: "The only rule in Fat Club is that nobody talks about Fat Club."

Accompanied by an extremely quick flash of a hotdog. Pure comedic genius.

Plus if you step through the Fat Club scene frame by frame there's a guy leaning on Brendon's shoulder wearing sunglasses and holding a pink bar of soap that says "FAT CLUB" :-)

Very funny episode.

Home Movies-The McGurk/Lynch plot was great but the fat plot was really lackluster.I just don't like Jason very much, this needed a LOT more MElissa, some more of Paula's plot would be nice as well.

B+

Oblongs-Sucks already

Home Movies - It was a good episode AND Melissa didn't blow up any buildings. But, made unrealistic by how fast they lost weight (2-3 weeks) and how fast they gained all that weight. A-.

Oblongs - The dog saved the episode. Still, Baby Blues is better. C.

The baby thing is getting old, fast. I'm sick of it already. F.

This episode was drastically better than 302 - "Breaking Up Is Hard To Do," and is just a great episode overall. What could of been a series of fat jokes was basically good writing, improvisation, voice acting, and comedic timing.

The whole episode really worked. I'm glad it was better (a lot more better) than the last episode. A-

ADULT SWIM COMEDY REPORT CARD......

Home Movies:

Episode 303 - "Bad Influences": This IS the funniest Home Movies ever. Every plot was hillarious. The fat plot. The McGuirk plot. The Paula plot was semi-funny, but still came through. A VERY well pieced together episode with the best ending in the whole series!

GRADE: A++

+ McGuirk and Lynch's poetry
- Paula's plot is too short

The Oblongs:

Episode 236-003 - "Narcoleptic Scottie": What's with these titles following the "[adjective] [proper noun]" format? Anyway, after this Home Movies, it was hard for this episode to please me. Finally the hill people get what's coming to them as well. I need one of those exploding sombreroes. Also, Milo's becoming more and more irritating.

GRADE: B-

+ Birds fly away into an airplane jet, the laser is conveniently bent for Beth's growth.
- Pamela Segall's voice = ANNOYING!

Hanna-Barbera Babies Interstitials:

Episode 3 - "The Herculoids Babies in 'Beware the Dweed'": Still not impressed. At least they used character emotions to play on the words a little more this time. Like the gas.

GRADE: C

+ The ending.
- The usual other stuff.

Mission Hill:

Episode 3950-01 - "The ******bag Aspect" or "Pilot": Back to square one! Only this time without that annoying TV-14 rating. Easier to cap. Of course the Kevin drunk scene is classic.

GRADE: A

+ "Stop bragging about your girlfriends!", Googer Geiger!!
- Not enough Jim.

Harvey Birdman: Attorney At Law:

Episode 2201 - "Shaggy Busted": Of course this kicked off the new episodes of 2002. I've reviewed it before so you know the drill. I'm not going to bother with the good or bad because I did that back in July, and when I do it many times over it gets confusing.

GRADE: A++

Sealab 2021:

Episode 2201 - "In the Closet": Kicking off 2002 Sealab 2021 (hehe). This episode was alright I guess.

GRADE: B

+ Buckethead Wendy, clostrophobic Sparks, Stormy gets eaten.
- The whole episodes literally takes place in the closet.

Aqua Teen Hunger Force:

Episode 2104 - "Balloonenstein": The forgotten ATHF episode. The first sign showing that this series has a good pacing! Funny all around episode with mucho Schooly D.

GRADE: A

+ Meatwad's the boss and Shake's his *****.
- What was the point of the vortex?

The Brak Show:

Episode 2107 - "Psychoklahoma": God. Can this show not suck?

GRADE: D-

+ Thundercleese ruins the play, but saves this show from an F.
- That bird thing that sings in the end.

SGC2C:

Episode 58 - "Terminal": Ah. This episode rocked! Especially with little SG, SG's whole dying experience, and pretty much everything else. Oh, and the theme song's absence for that little nature montage complete with dead fish.

GRADE: A

+ Zorak's celebratory music over SG's death.
- Marc Wiener was lame.

Episode 77 - "Kentucky Nightmare": Well, a new cycle/year. Time to count how many times this ep will air this time. Last year it was 6 times. Will it beat it? Who knows!

GRADE: B+

+ The shark and the bear.
- Weird, but not too funny.

Whee, first review from my laptop ^^

Home Movies: My sister actually laughed at some points tonight. The fat plot was, well.. unrealistic, but as I told my sister, hey, it's a cartoon, their hands are the same color as their shirt. The ending parodies were HILARIOUS. Priceless ending, mediocre fat plot, amusing adult-related plot.

Oblongs: Okay, I didn't like the thing about Milo having a dog. I am not a dog person except for pit bulls and huskies. Scotties I really dislike. And I'm getting sick of Milo. Definitely not one of the better episodes, but Suzie got a few lines in at least.

Mission Hill: Well.. it's the first episode, and I'll always love it. The end.

hahaha! i loved your comment & congrats on the laptop. someday, i'll sell my g4 & swap it for a ti-book and then i can chuck this huge behemoth of a monitor and reclaim some of my desk back.

oh yeah, this was one of my favorite HM episodes. the movie posters on the walls are sooo choice! i'd love to get a copy or some sort of poster collection thingy (i believe CN has a copy of the plump fiction one).

Home Movies was pretty good, easily the best of the 3 measely episodes I've seen so far. The ending was hilarious :D

Can't really say the same for Ooblongs. The first couple of episodes were pretty good but this episode simply wasn't up to par on them, and had an ending a little too optomistic. I would have killed off the dog, screw up the kid even further... @_@

And finally, Mission Hill was pretty good, my first time seeing the Pilot; Kevin usually annoys me to death but he was actually rather funny in this episode when he got drunk.

And yes, the baby thing really is getting lame. -_-

Herculoids Babies is like a bad idea somebody came up with when they were drunk and they don't know when to stop it. They just need to please stop doing those shorts.

Like most have said, this is the best S3 episode of Home Movies so far. Fat Jason and Fat Brendon were funny to look at and the McGuirk/Lynch subplot was hilarious. Also found McGuirk's "advice" to Brendon about being fat hilarious. And of course the ending stole the show. :D A+

The Oblongs...why do I even bother with this show? It was still unfunny except for a few parts the most they did was bring a smile to my face. And Milo's voice is very grating to the ears. D

And yes, down with the babies! -_-

Home Movies - A-

Man, what a great episode. I don't know if I like this one or Shore Leave better for the best third season episode thus far. Probably this one. That Fight Club parody was hilarious, does anyone know all the movies that they were parodying? I was laughing too hard to catch them all and would like to know what the rest of them were. Anyway, I thought the fat plot was pretty funny and so was McGuirks. As others have stated, Paulas could have used a few more scenes though cause it never really went anywhere. Her plot is really the only reason it dropped from an A to an A-. Otherwise, a perfect episode.

The Oblongs - C+

Not being a huge fan of this show so far, I guess I'll have to give this one a mediocre review. The first episode was probably better than this one and I didn't really pay attention to last weeks. It has some funny parts but overall, it's just too dark themed and disgusting. I agree that Milos voice is really annoying too.

HM -good one i think so whatever , but what i really want to know is what happened to the outlining on the ppl on it, it used to be all ****ty and used to move alot...

Oblongs -sucks, ppl in in are disfigured and look queer, and if anyone is that freaky plz just stay away , hahaha. I liked Baby blues it was cooler.

Home Movies: Better than last week though I liked the 1st new episode the most so far. Spoofs always work for me so the ending was nice. Overall grade: B+

The Oblongs: Hate and violence is really all this show is. I laughed out loud twice (reading from the back of the video box and the Cher impersonation) and that's it. 98% of this show was hateful and not comedic at all. I'm really tempted to call this the worst show on Adult Swim. Overall grade: F

Mission Hill: Now I see what "Googer Geiger" means. I originally missed this episode so seeing it for the first time was pretty neat. Good stuff. Real shame to hear that there are no more new episodes. Overall grade: B+

Space Ghost: Now I understand why there are no more Space Ghost episodes. R.I.P. Space Ghost :( . Overall grade: B

That's called Squiggle Vision. They used it in season 1 only before they switched animation styles.

That is known as "SquiggleVision", and is a copyrighted animation technique, if I'm not mistaken. It was created by Jonathan Katz (voice of Melissa's dad on Home Movies) and Tom Snyder.

Its done by drawing 5 different versions of the same thing, then combining them all digitally, which creates the "squiggle" effect.

As to why its not used any more, I have not a clue. Anyone?

I really liked Home Movies. As a college student living off-campus, I can certainly relate to all of the fat jokes. Funny stuff.

Oh, how I feel for McGuirk. Everytime my roomates and their ladyfriends drag me along to dinner I always feel like a fifth wheel.

Overall, though, a great episode. I'm turning in early, so I'm recording the rest for tomorrow.

Later.

OK, here's my reviews:

Home Movies- Fun-ny! Fat Club was classic! Best HM EVER!

Grade: A++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

Oblongs: NOT as good as the other episodes, but I'll give it a break.

Grade: B-

Mission Hill: The pilot. It really is weird, because it shows you the original style of the series, when some things changed later on, like Kevin calling his parents and Andy and Kevin fighting...

Grade: B

Harvey Birdman: Didn't seem funny this time.

Grade: D

Missed the rest...

Home Movies: Bleh. Okay but I can't agree with calling it the best. I prefer the episodes that seem kinda reality based and don't have gag endings. The double date half was pretty funny though. Grade: B

Oblongs: Hate this show and felt no compulsion to watch another one. Like others, I enjoyed Baby Blues more...then again, I enjoy just about any Adult Swim toon more, even the Brak Show.

Mission Hill: The pilot was okay but not my favorite. Still I liked these series fairly well, too bad it's over. Grade: B-

Didn't watch the other re-runs, except...

ATHF: Probably one of my favorite episodes but I've seen it too many times now. Grade: B+

I was under the impression that Home Movies is now animated in Macromedia Flash and to do SquiggleVision using flash would be pretty hard (or else they just wanted a different look for the show... or both :-)).

I had a feeling, the show does look as if its animated in Flash, as nanovivid stated. Which is fine by me, it gives the show a very nice, clean look.

In regards to the avatar, thanks! There's actually another pose he does in the same episode thats pretty neat looking, although I'm not sure if it comes out very well when shrunk down to 75 x 75 pixels, I can get you a screen cap of it if you want.

Ooblongs called a Western Highland Dog a Scottish Terrier.

They may look the same but they are a completely different dog, the Western Highland is white and smaller than a Scottsh Terrier.
