As a lot of you probably know, this weekend is CN's "Big Pick Weekend," where CN will show 52 hours of nothing but Cartoon Cartoons. CN has been promoting the heck out of this thing. Now, we all know that the classic cartoons own the record for both the highest rated marathon special (this year's "June Bugs") as well as the highest rated individual program ("Toon Heads: The Wartime Cartoons") in the history of CN. It's important that "Big Pick Weekend" not surpass either of those two events in the ratings, or I feel it may spell trouble for classic cartoons on CN. It seems to me that most of the folks at CN seem reluctant to admit there's a large audience for the classic cartoons, whereas they're all too happy to admit--and capitalize on--a large audience for Cartoon Cartoons (which kinda makes sense, because--just to play devil's advocate for a moment--how would you like it if 50-year old cartoons were outperforming cartoons that you spent big bucks on to create in the ratings?). So if we want to see more programs like "Toon Heads: The Wartime Cartoons" in the future, I think we need to hope that "Big Pick Weekend" doesn't do too well in the ratings.

I can dream, can't I?
