According to Animation World Network, "Turner Sports Interactive has acquired the animated Web series THE KELLYS from SportsBlast," produced through Happy House Productions, an animation production company founded by Emmy-award winning voiceover actor Nancy Cartwright (voice of Mindy on ANIMANIACS and Bart Simpson on THE SIMPSONS).
"This deal marks the first major sale for SportsBlast, which creates sports-themed animation content. Webisodes will premiere exclusively on NASCAR.com in September," reports AWN.
HappyHouse.com describes SportsBlast as a site "where sports fans come to play.... appropriate for most families - somewhere between The Simpsons and South Park, minus the language. A ten-year-old should be able to watch this without most parents freaking out, but it's not a kiddie site."
"This site has comedy as one of its driving forces," the website further explains. "We are not a stats and scores site. We are a site that entertains, bringing the sports world to life in compelling and challenging ways [through] sponsored webisodes, games, contests, etc."
"The Web series is a dramedy that explores the world of stock car racing, drivers, pit crews, sponsors and fans through the lives of the Kelly family, underdogs who race the NASCAR circuit," AWN states. "Turner is the perfect partner for a series like this, and NASCAR fans are the ideal sports audience," said SportsBlast CEO William Widmaier.
SportsBlast will feature the voice talents of Nancy Cartwright, Rob Paulsen (Animaniacs, Pinky & The Brain), Jess Harnell (Animaniacs, Road Rovers), Kath Soucie (Tiny Toons, Dexter's Lab, Rugrats), and Corey Burton (Superman:TAS, Batman Beyond, Pinky & The Brain, Transformers).
SportsBlast.com is currently under construction.
