I couldn't help but note something very unusual in the Pokemon episode they reran yesterday from this season. Ash, Misty and Brock came upon a beginner Pokemon trainer who was getting restless and ready to stretch her wings and leave the nest. In the end, she decided she wanted to stay home with her sisters instead of accompanying Ash and Pikachu and Co.

No, nothing special about the plot. However, there was in the translation of this episode. Instead of giving the guest character an Americanized name, they left it as Sakura.

Maybe an unexpected benefit from the "Cardcaptors" travesty? Regardless, even if she didn't become a new regular after all, I still thought it was worthy of note.

Pokemon is a runaway hit already. No need for execs to overwrite the scripts. They could stick a static crayon drawing of Ash there for 20 minutes and it'll still bring in respectable ratings, even if the Poke-machine has slowed down a lot now.

In that episode the characters kept on pronouncing her name as "Sur-ku-ra".

Isn't suppose to be "Sa-kur-ra"?

Actually, if you're going for the REAL pronounciation, it'd sound more like "SAH-krah" since the Japanese language tends to skip over 'i' and 'u' if they're in the middle syllables. ^^
