O.k I got the latest issue of ToyFare in the mail yesterday. Because of the 80's toy explosion this year, they did a nice big article covering all of the latest 80's-era series returning in 2002-2003. Of course, He-Man was headlining the article.
So, in this article, it showed cover art of an issue of Superman Vs. He-Man. I'd never heard of it, but apparently Supe's gets sucked through a vortex into Eternia(Like in the movie! ), and Skeletor puts Supe's under a spell, controlling his body. Naturally, Skeletor puts Superman(strongest man on earth) up against He-Man(Strongest man in Eternia). Anyway, on the cover of the comic, Superman is attacking He-Man, and one of those cool little thought bubbles is sprouting outta Supe's head. And it read's something along the lines of 'as long as skeletor controls me, I must fight superman, and that means....I can DIE!'
Naturally I was shocked by this. Actually suggesting that Supe's can die by means other than Kryptonite! WHAT THE HECK!?!?! Yeah right..haha...but...really...if DC comics would suggest that their own mighty-blue clad hero can be killed by the Manliest man of all men, He-Man(so manly, he needs a 'HE' placed before 'MAN' just to clarify that he's a..real..man).
So, now I leave it up to you guys....Do you think He-Man could really kill Supe's?
Well, I remember reading that issue a long time ago. I'll have to see if I have a copy in one of my boxes.
Anyway, Superman is vulnerable to all forms of magic, thus the reason he was pummeled by Captain Marvel and was able to be cut by Wonder Woman's magic sword during Kingdom Come.
Prince Adam, like Billy Batson, uses magic to transform into his superpowered alter ego. And don't forget, do we know if Eternia orbits a yellow sun? If not, that would lessen all Superman's powers.
A magic spell cast by Skeletor would weaken Supes considerably. I don't remember how that issue turned out, but Superman's will power could resist He-Man just long enough so that He-Man could "defeat" Superman, breaking Skeletor's hold on the Man of Steel, and then both heroes could gang up on the villain.

Yup.... Supes got nothin' over magic. He-Man would rock his schtuffnjunk and then run him through... unless He-Man still has that rule against killing too.

This story was told in an issue of the 80's series "DC Comics Presents" (a book that featured Superman teaming up with various different DCU heroes); don't remember the issue # though. This being the pre-Crisis Superman, the Superman stories in this series aren't in current continuity (though some of the backup stories centering around other characters are, I believe).
Yep, besides kryptonite, Superman does have other vulnerabilities: being under a red sun/not exposed to a yellow sun, magic, sufficiently-powered foes or alien weaponry (Doomsday), etc.
To the other poster, I believe Eternia did revolve around a yellow sun...
My opinion: If He-Man can use the "power of Mattel™--er, Grayskull" ;-) to fire off a few mystically-powered lightning bolts a la "Kingdom Come", sure he could defeat Superman; otherwise, I'd think between Superman's superspeed (which He-Man IIRC doesn't have...especially having been a Filmation character and all ;-) and heat vision (or even freeze breath), He-man doesn't stand much of a chance.

I say it would end in a stalemate - they'd "both die," if you will. Both characters have amazing willpower, and both are off the charts when it comes to strength. He-Man might have the advantage of magic-based powers, but then Superman can fly and has the bells and whistles like heat vision, etc.
I love both these characters, and to see a fair fight between them would be interesting.

I know the comic you guys are talking about...but I think that He-Man has a very good chance of killing Superman...but vice versa as well...they are both very powerful and strong. I don't think He-Man is quite as strong as Superman but pretty close.

He-Man. Although Superman has more powers and should win, I've never seen He-Man truely taken out. I've seen Superman trashed several times. Perhaps it's just unfortunate He-Man is built for an audience who are too young to see their hero beaten.
Bad luck Superman, being a more adult material has it's downside!!!
