Curious question I got sitting around the animenation boards. As for my parents.

They're more or less indiffrent. My dad kind of rolls his eyes at all of my cartoons (with the exception of Batman, Batman Beyond, and all the shows in that family.)

My Mom has asked me on occasion what "anime" is. But she also does the same number as my dad.

My sister's kinda cynical about it all, but I've gotten her to enjoy parts of Kenshin (I think.)

So basically it's just me and my brother who sit down and watch the stuff (usually at night, midnight run) or in the afternoon before my parents get home.

As for my freinds mostly all of us are anime fans, so we get together and watch the stuff alot, heck even at school. I have a few (one in particular) who shrug it off as kiddy faire but I get to tease her about that to (we're good buddies.)

So how about you all?

i am not addicted to anime. either that or i am in denial. nobody besides me and my older brother knows that i occasionally watch anime. anything animated i keep away from my dad; i only watch it when he is not around.

Everytime my parents saw me watching cartoons and anime, my dad proclaimed that I'm too old to be watching these things. I tried to get him hooked on some off them (specifically, Cowboy Bebop) but he just either walk away or fall asleep midway through. My mom, on the other hand, shows some interest in what I'm watching and didn't mind about it.

Well, my Wil buys me anime, and watches it on occasion, he pretty much got me into anime.

My mom hates it and says it's influencing me to be the way I am.
-.-; Whatever.

Mom is generally cool about it. Being as Suncoast is the only real place to buy "the good stuff" IMO, she's a little upset that I love something so much, that just happens to cost $30 per DVD(Stupid Suncoast). So, she simply wont buy me any anime on holidays. Haha. She thinks some of it is morally lacking, but ultimately it's my choice what I watch, and she knows that I'm not going to be a chain-smoking-Gun Fu-fighting-bounty hunter just because I "idolize" Spike from Cowboy Bebop. Hahaha...but, she hates Ghost in the Shell and Ninja Scroll...she wont let me watch those...but I'm smart enough to only watch those after she's gone to bed, so..it's all cool.

Dad generally likes it. "entertainment is entertainment." If the story is smart, if the animation is good, Dad likes it. I remember him sitting down with my bro n' I to watch Ninja Scroll...it's one of the few movies that he didn't fall asleep during. But, he's also suprized at how much money I spend...

My brother likes Anime just as much as anything. Not specifically an "anime" fan, but when I was pre-18, lets just say he's the one I got "the good stuff" from. ;)

My sister couldn't tell the difference between Akira and Hamtaro. She sucks. BUT, while she thinks I should grow up, she's still willing to fork over $30 to get me one of the many anime titles I've been talking about for months. Heh...she introduced me to Nadesico, thinking it was Gundam or something of the sort....."they're all the same".... :p

My friends accept my obsession, and they think some of my movies are cool. They liked Akira just up till Tetsuo started to bloat..."ewww"...hahahaha!!! Anyway. In the end, Cowboy Bebop is the only thing they all agree with, and let me obsess over without complaint. :D

My parents don't seem to mind. My Mother thinks it is a bit strange how anybody can like something so much, but generally she thinks it is better than anything I could be watching on MTV, or listening to on the radio. But my mom doesn't really know what I listen to :p . But even if she did, she knows she can't change what I like, she just lets me be me. My Dad is fine with it as well. Although sometimes he will say something when Ryoko is running around topless, or any other character for that matter, but he doesn't really care.

As for the rest of my family, everybody else really enjoys anime/manga. My oldest brother is primarily a DBZ, and Cowboy Bebop fan, the other brother has a few animes that he really likes. My sister loves Tenchi Muyo, Fushigi Yugi, and Ranma 1/2(thanks to me), but out of the family me and my other brother like anime the most.

My dad could care less, he pretty much ignores it. My mom, on the other hand, likes Slayers and Cowboy Bebop. She doesn't mind me getting into anime, since there's a lot worse I could be spending my spare cash on.

My dad goes back and forth between watching it with me and making fun of it. I think he does enjoy it.

My youngest sister,7, watches almost all the anime i do. She's seen Armitage III more than I have and adores Ghost in the Shell (she named one of her pet snails Kusinagi once, it was so cute.) Of course she also likes Ranma, DBZ, Sailor Moon, YYH, CB, etc. We get along quite well. I'm presently getting her to start watching DBZ and Trigun subtitled.

My younger sister, only two years younger than myself, claims that they are stupid, and doesn't understand why i watch them. It doesn't stop her from watching them from time to time. Why she didn't leave the room during Hamtaro I will never know.

Overall, I'm not really given that much of a hard time about it.

My parents never understood why I got into anime, but they didn't disapprove of it either. I remember my dad trying to watch some of Robotech with me when I was a kid, (I loved it, he noticed the above normal level of violence, but didn't seem to care for or against it). Other than that, they've never brought up their approval or disapproval of anime.

As for regular American cartoons...I had to live with my Dad putting them down all the time, (but he considers all cartoons to be for kids). Every time he walked by as I was watching cartoons, if they show interested him, (by which I mean it peaked his curiosity) then he'd stand there and watch it for a few minutes, roll his eyes or moan, and walk off, (I don't think he ever found time to sit and watch a whole episode with me.

Well...come to think of it, this discussion has got me thinking...He did sit and watch *most* of Transformers: The Movie with me once, and he liked most of it, (God, that movie rocked). I also remember Dad liking some episodes of the Real Ghostbusters with me. We even had a discussion once over an episode of that series where the Ghostbuster released the Stay Puffed Marshmellow man from their "Ghost prison" so he could save the city from another evil ghost....so Mr. Stay Puffed was a hero to NYC at the end, and my dad was like, "um, so what are they going to do now with him, lock him back up? Turn him into smores"? We had some good times when I could convince him to watch...but for the most part, he was like, "blah"? And my mom could care less one way or the other.

The next time people rolled their eyes when they see you watch anime or American cartoons, ask them what they watch?

If the answer is somewhere along the lines of "Who Wants to Marry a Millionare?" then you can start rolling your eyes.

Wow. This is a loaded question. Yeah, I'm being serious.

I honestly don't know how my parents really feel about my anime addiction. They really don't have a problem with it - I guess they don't want to be bothered. I don't know if that's a good thing or a bad thing I guess if they really think about it, watching anime is a lot better than what some other girls my age are doing. It keeps me off the streets, and it keeps me off drugs, alcohol, having unprotected sex, violence, etc.

My sister on the other hand.....^_^;....wey-yell, let me give you a scenario on what MY life is all about:

My sister: What the hell are you watching?
Me: Cowboy Bebop
My sister: ::groans & rolls eyes::
Me: What?
My sister: ::walks out of the room::
(Five minutes later)
My sister: ::listens to *NSYNC.::

Did I forget to mention that my sister is older than me?

My boyfriend has no problem with me liking anime. He's with me with my argument of it keeping me off the streets and stuff.

The only bad thing that watching anime has done to me - my money supply is dwindling ever so quickly :D

I wish I had some cool parents that would actually sit and WATCH anime with me. If they look past the violence in "Cowboy Bebop", they might like it...

What a crazy notion. I have a better chance of getting Heck to freeze over.

Any thoughts?

*NSYNC?!

That alone gives up her authority on the dictation of "quality entertainment". :D

Nobody really knows that I watch anime. My parents know I watch DBZ, but they don't know of any other shows that I watch. Anyway, they think that they are all cartoons and that I am too old to watch cartoons. But I don't care.

You know, there ARE animes out there for older people.

Adults who grew up watching Gigantor and Astro Boy would ADORE the Giant Robo seven-episode OAV series and the newly released color Astroboy series from the 80s. Ask them if they ever watched Gigantor or Astro Boy. You could buy them the newly translated Astro Boy Manga. I'm sure they'd get a kick out of it.

Rightstuf and Rhino are also releasing a DVD box set of all 52 episodes of the *dubbed* b&w Gigantor this fall. It's also been remastered, too.

A great historical artifact, even if it's the dub-only version.

My dad thinks that anime is a waste of my money, but he doesn't care about what I watch of it. My mom isn't a big fan, although I have gotten her to watch some Cowboy Bebop on Adult Swim. My sister doesn't even acknowledge that anime exists. And I think it's all great.

My mom doesn't care at all. My brother kinda likes it, but not enough to buy anything. My dad, well, I showed him an episode of Bebop I downloaded about a year before ASA started and he rushed out and bought the whole series. He saw Gundam Wing before Bebop and liked it, and after that he saw Outlaw Star and liked that too. He saw and liked the first episode of Hellsing and the DBZ movie World's Strongest subbed. I'm gonna show him Big O as soon as I get one more DVD, and he's expressed interest in Trigun, which I already own.

My Dad - Loves to tease me about it. Calls it "crap" on many occasions and often spouts gibberish meant to be Japanese.

Mom - Tolerates it, but at one point she thought I was watching "Asian porn." I think she still believes that's what I watch/read - and I don't!

Sister - Was the one that told my mom I watch "Asian porn," even though I certainly don't!

My mom has gotten used to me liking anime,so she really doesnt care,my brother calls it stupid  he thinks everything is stupid,so I dont pay attention to him,and my sister likes it too,so she doesnt say anything about it. My grandparents though, think its dumb, and they think that this little "faze" should have ended when I turned 14,but guess what,I'm 16 now,and this little "faze" still didnt end :D

My mom doesn't really care what I watch. My stepdad likes anime and has watched some of it on the Action Channel. My younger brother watches some of the anime on Toonami, becasue he'll watch any kind of cartoon.
