Well considering that I like RPG's, the PS2 is the obvious choice at the moment.

Thats when you post a message and then reply to your own message several times. If you need to add or change something, just use the edit option.

I don't own either, but play them when I get the chance. I like them both, but I grew up with Nintendo, so I'll stick with it.
I will say, however, that they both rock console gaming, baby.

PS2 is better.
Nintendo has to try harder to shake off the kiddie image.

Both are equally good.

Playstation 2 has more games, GameCube has a better percentage of high quality games.....but Xbox will be better than both of them by the end of this year.

The kiddie image is what I like. Makes me feel all nostalgic.

Kiddie image or no kiddie image, Nintendo's games on average are far more fun, inovative and entertaining. And the entire point of videogames are to be fun and entertaining not realistic.
PS2 gets just as many "so called kiddy" games as GC does but no one takes notice. Then usually a gamewill be released for all 3 systems and reviewers will skip over the GC version. It's a conspiracy, man.

Comparing apples and oranges is really what this is. But I'll take the apple (Gamecube).

Four words for ya:
Conkers...Bad...Fur...Day.
If that's not enough, then try this one:
Zelda.
Nintendo does have some kiddie stuff coughPokemoncough but it still maintains its mature image.
Oh yea, I take PS2. Mainly because of Tekken and Final Fantasy X.

Gamecube.
I have issues with Sony in general.
and XBox? Well... I won't even go there.

This question has been asked too many times. The answer is going to come from game preference.

I don't agree with you. All 3 consoles have plenty of high quality games, but PS2 having more because of the earlier release.

Well, um...Have you looked at the new Zelda?
I used to be a "NINTENDO. NO DOUBT." person, but I consider myself back then biased. After finally buying a PS2 with FFX and playing some games, I draw this conclusion:
GCN has fewer titles, but most of them are great. PS2 has more titles, but most of them should be ignored, and the good ones are very good, pretty much Nintendo-quality.
I don't really care about the "kiddie VS non-kiddie" issue any more. The greatest game ever could be a cute Yoshi or Pokémon game and I would still not be biased against it. Quality is what counts, not tone.
If you ignore the crap titles for both systems, hopefully you can find them equal, like I have. Just buy them both.
I still don't like Xbox, though.

To me, Gamecube wins with a close margin. I have both GC and PS2 and I have about the same number of games for each system and I have games looking forward too. Like GTA Vice City for PS2 and Super Mario Sunshine for GC. GC will alaways have that great humor like that from Rare and great graphics from Nintendo and Rare. I guess you can say PS2 is for action and GC is for fun and humor, eventhough they switch roles at times.

|I don't agree with you. All 3 consoles have plenty of high quality games, but PS2 having more because of the earlier release|
Notice how I didnt say that Nintendo has more hgih quality games, but a higher PERCENTAGE of high quality games. I agree that Sony has more of the high quality games now, but Nintendo has a higher percentage of great games.
Still, as I look into the future, Sony does not have many exclusive games that i really want (Kingdom Hearts being the only real exception), Xbox has plenty of them (namely good things from Sega, but also Blinx, Halo 2, Toons), and GameCube has all of their first party games to dish out. And when looking at games that are on all of the systems, Xbox has the best versions. I know people have some sort of hatred towards Xbox for no real reason. I dont hate any of the systems (I despise PS2 for killing the DC, but I can admit that its got its good games) but since I've been able to hold off buying a PS2 for this entire time, I wont be buying one until its 100 bucks or less. My brother owns a GameCube so I get to play their games. So I bought an Xbox...
But in the end this is a stupid thread brought about by someone who was spamming and is a topic that I've talked about almost to death. I just have to defend the Xbox where possible, because it is a good system that simply gets better and better as time moves on. And I certainly cant wait for Rare to actually start releasing games for GCN, or if they go 3rd party, Xbox. :D

I would go insane if rare actually did that especailly if they tried to take like DK or star fox. id also be mad if they did the rumored switch of perfect dark.
I say X-Box got lucky to snag the best sega branch and that would really be the only reason i like X-Box although blinx does look pretty cool.
as for PS2 all it has are some RPGs for now (since i dont really like GTA 3)
And GCN has all of thier first and second party games which are awesome
oh yeah i went gamecube

Yes, I have, but I realize that just because a game has a unique "cartoony" style does not make it kiddy, especially one with such a great history as Zelda.
This being an animation-themed board, I would think people would be a little more open-minded towards an art style like that, but I guess not.
Come to think of it, Zelda's new style is a lot like Samuari Jack.

Thank God you said that. Everytime someone brings up "Zelda looks kiddy" I go it looks almsot exactly like Samuri Jack ! And Samuri Jack is not kiddy but just as cartoony.
Another thing you can think of is this, Nintendo brings gaming abck to it's roots, the fun. Duck Hunt was a silly little game, if it came out now it'd be called kiddy but back in the day it was the "new hottness". Everyone loved Duck Hunt, wana know why ? BECAUSE IT WAS FUN. End of story. Nintendo makes fun games, games are meant to be fun. That's why Nintendo is no. 1
The only thing Sony brought to gaming was the notion that it wasn't just for 8 year olds, and geeks. IMHO, Sony ruined gaming. Almost every game is the same or a basterized or modified version of another game, and fans like it because "it's purty". Even back in the PSX days, FMV were a major draw for that system, and developers saw this and started to turn on Nintendo.
Sadly this entire argument is ironic because the Playstation was originally being developed for Nintendo, and then something happened..and here we are. Dreamcast dies (arguably the best gaming system to date), XBox enters (and i'm willing to bet theyw ouldn't have if sony hadn't), Nintendo gets called kiddy and games in general become repetitive. I mean many inovations and new ideas are stepping up but in a larger out look it just doesn't seem that way.

However, Perfect Dark isn't owned by Nintendo, so they could take it to other systems if they wanted to.
And can we please put the "kiddy image" argument to rest? Games aren't "kiddy" because of their graphical style, and even if they are, who cares? Super Mario World may look "kiddy", but I'll still play it.
This thread seems to me like a breeding ground for system war posts, and so far, no one has posted anything to make me think otherwise. It seems all this thread was created for was to get people arguing about which system is better, and that's a question with no answer. Each system has different games for different people, and no one is ever going to agree on what the best games are, so to say something like "GC is the best because it has the best games" is silly, because not everyone agrees that the best games are on GC, and to base your decision on anything besides games is even more ridiculous. I don't own an Xbox and don't plan to buy one anytime soon, but I still look forward to games exclusive to the Xbox. If you ask me which system, in this generation, I like better, I'll say PS2, but only because I think it has more games than any other system that I would enjoy. What does this mean to you? Absolutely nothing, because we don't have the exact same tastes. So let's forget about what game a system is on and let's just appreciate the games themselves, whether you like the system they’re on or not.

Stop making sense.
The only reason i fuel these kind of threads is to see what makes PS2 owners, like PS2 so much. It sounds stupid but it helps me make decison on if I'll ever get one.
Based on soemthing like this I went and picked up a Dreamcast. So i consider this all research.

Wasn't this question just answered by The Dark Knight? PS2 owners like the PS2 so much because of the games that are for the console. There is no reason for research. Just look at the list of games for the system and decide if you like them or not.

Yes, it was answered by DK, I just telling him so he'd understand why I was doing what I was doing. I get the impression from my friends that the only reason they have PS2's is because it's popular and nothing more.

Well, this is dangerous territory, but Ive never backed off of that before.
People like me wonder why PS2 owners feel some sort of devotion to the system. I can understand feeling some sort of loyalty to Square, and since Square chooses to follow Sony like a lapdog, you can fight for Square's pride. Square still makes great games in my eyes, but what pisses me off about them is that they dont admit that they are what they are: a second party company. Sure this whole thing with Nintendo would technically make them a thrid party system, but they are not putting a full effort to help Nintendo from what Ive seen so far. Square should have said they were a second party company after FFVII and not jerk everyone around by teasing them by claiming thrid party.
I understand peoples devotion to Nintendo because Nintendo has been around since back in the day. Sega has hardcore fans because theyve been around since back in the day. Treausre has the hardest of hardcore fans because they have been around since back in the day. But what really makes these companies great is their drive for innovation and quality. Sony does NONE OF THESE THINGS. Sony pays people to make games for whatever system they so please to make. Sony themselves do not make great video games. They pay others to do it for them. Heck, even their first and second party companies are lackluster (perhaps with the exception of the Gran Turismo creators). Microsoft has a similar problem, but their system is better and their first and second party companies make great games (Halo anyone? plus Oddworld and the upcoming Blinx)
It has always been puzzling to me why people feel such devotion for an empty company and its system. Sony can burn in the fiery depths of Satans home, and I would feel nothing but wonder for where to buy a new Discman. If Nintendo or Sega went down, I am in chaos. Who will fill the void of quality? This is what puzzles me.
And about the Rare thing, like mentioned, they cannot take Nintendo franchises to other systems, but Rare has its own franchises dont forget. Conkers Bad Fur Day, Banjo- Kazooie, Killer Instinct, Jet Force Gemini (though this one wasnt as accepted), and Perfect Dark are their resume without Nintendo caharcters. Pretty Damn Good.

Aren't you being a little unfair to Sony? They have done a lot of great things themselves along with Nintendo and Sega. Why do you dislike Sony so much? I can understand about Square, but saying Sony doesn't care for innovation, quality, and only cares for money is going a little too far. Sony, Nintendo, Sega, and Microsoft have made a lot of good games. I don't see how one company is overall better or worse than the other. They all do good things in different areas.

I like both about the same. Nintendo for the Marios, Link, and all that other good game stuff, and the PS2 for all those RPG's we have coming up and such (Kingdom Hearts, and Suikoden III mainly).
The Xbox just.......sucks.

yeah..this topic has gone on way too long as it is. I'm sorry guys, but when we start posting to "Add fuel to the fire", it just isn't grounds for a "healthy" topic.
If anyone cares, in my book, Sony has established itself as a great system maker and provider of games. I'm a Nintendo fanboy and even admit that. XBOX is just a rip off Dreamcast to me...maybe that's why Sega's so chummy with them..
Anyway, I'm closing this topic, and I hope the next time one of these boogers pop up, we won't have to go through this again--although "whats better?" topics always seem to get entagled in a mess. No one's better than the other, it varies between every person and their oppinion...
