View Full Version : Batman Beyond "Dead In WB's Eyes"

That's right! Paul Dini exclaimed that the BB show and live action movie are dead to WB. Don't be suprised if UNMASKED remains unaired in the US. WB has all but given up on the franchise. While a Uncut ROTJ release is likely, that may be it.

ARG! Not another good series! Well, if I were Dini, I'd go look for a network that would treat a series with respect.

That is horrible news, but we already knew that in our hearts. So, do you think the Columbia House Batman Beyond DVDs will see the light of day still?

Yeah, really. It will be funny to watch what will happen to KWB after they air all the Pokemon episodes.:)

@#%$ Warner Brothers!!! Hopefully they'll fold and hand over everything to someone who can do some good with it. Ugh, I'm about to the point of boycotting WB's releases. Not that it'll make a difference, but it'll make me feel better:mad: To quote Dan Akroyd in Nothing But Trouble, WB: "Ah, go suck an egg!"

I was dissapointed when I heard this though not suprised. The recent treatment of the show is a good indicator of the shoddiness.

Damn this sucks. But I still believe that we'll see Unmasked some day. Probably around the time kidsWB tires of jerking us around and finally ships BB over to CN.
Right now the thing I'm fearing the most is that while we're all eagerly waiting for Unmasked to air, when it does we'll find out that it was another Rats!
edit: I just thought of this. There's actually no reason for kidsWB not to air Unmasked. They've already paid for the ep. By not airing it they only wasted money that could have been spent acquiring another pokeclone. I'm betting that they're just saving Unmasked so the can advertise a "new" season of BB this fall.

Again, no surprise here. I've been bracing for an announcement of this sort for a while.
Still... sigh.

let the illegal copies of "Unmasked" begin to circulate!! :D
Well..in the light of ROTJ:Unedited "likely" coming to DVD..there is the chance that Unmasked may be included on the DVD..right? :)
Or, when they release the season DVDs..maybe they'll put it on the Season 3 DVD..
And if nobodys read about how they can fit 10hours of video on one DVD now, I think that'd like..allow them to put an entire season on each DVD! :)

That's terrible news! I still had my fingers crossed. I'm pretty sure we'll see Unmasked on WB sooner or later. That wasn't the problem. It's that hey gave up on the whole franchise and probably 10 years down the line nobody will remember this great show.

It makes no sense as to why they would not air Unmasked. I mean does this mean that we are going to have a lost episode. Damn you WB! Yeah I thank you for bringing back Batman in animated movies and JL, but still this delay on Unmasked is sheer nonsense. Air it! And air it now by god!

Yeah, and make sure to pass me one!:D But this really does suck, I had hopes that one day BB would jump up with the ranks of B:TAS. But I hope they can find a better network to bring BB to.

Ya know what WB? You can pucker up and kiss my butt! I mean, one way or another we're gonna see the flipping ep. You didn't want us seeing ROTJ Unedited either, but guess who's seen it? You're just wasting money not airing it.
James Harvey

I'm betting UNMASKED will air in May. It doesn't seem like WB will be airing it anytime soon and may air it as the series finale. I wouldn't be suprised. The Canadian channel YTV will be getting it in December if they stay on schedule so I'll be seeing it either way.

I just wouldn't be suprised if WB didn't air it. They aired all but one episode of SYLVESTER & TWEETY and I can see them doing that here, too.
This is horrible news.
Though, frankly, I wasn't too thrilled at the porspect of a live-action BB movie (too many chances to go horribly wrong there), I was hoping beyond (heh) hope that the WB was holding "Unmasked" so they could surprise us with a fourth season. Even if the so-called fourth season was only 6 or 8 eps, it would have been better than nothing.
If/when BB goes to CN, would there be the possibility of new eps there?

This sucks! what does WB think its doing? First WB created a highly rated show then they suddenly drop BB. What is up with that? Was the show not meeting up to their expectation? Look at the crap they have now a day. They are worst than BB in plot and artistic vision.

I believe, correct me if I'm wrong, that WB didn't neccesarrily cancel BB. After the ROTJoker fiasco (Bruce Timm and Paul Dini's fight...I think), they went their seperate ways. Bruce Timm is working on the JLA, Dini is..well..working on bunches of crap. Why WB isn't airing the last episode, I'll never know. I mean..Pokemon is good enough for "lost episodes"..but BB isn't even good enough to air a episode made for the Kids WB! basically? WB needs to wake up and smell the coffee. There is no reason why they can't air it. And they BETTER. If it's ever confirmed they WON'T air it...then I'm writing a really nasty letter..and I do mean letter..emails don't work.

Oh well, as a seemingly unintentional supporter of every television underdog (Twin Peaks, American Gothic, Space: Above and Beyond, Millenium, Homicide, Doctor Who...) I'm too world weary to be surprised at this. Oh well, another one to be popped into my case file. Title: Cut off Before It's Prime.

Well I believe that since BB was never officially canceled word was that once it was shipped over to CN (which doesn't look like it will happen anytime soon  ) CN would have the option to order new ep's. Of course the longer it takes for BB to be moved the less likely new ep's will be ordered.
Basically the best chance BB has for survival rests on the live action movie and at the rate things are going in that direction....

My god!!!!!!! It is bad enough they ended such a great show, edited a perfectly good movie for no stinking reason, and are holding off Unmasked ti'll god knows when, but now they're saying that they will NEVER AIR IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! WHAT THE HELL IS WRONG WITH THESE PEOPLE!!!!!!!!!! Why do they insist in torturing us? I mean, they already paid money to make the episode, so why not just AIR IT!!! I swear, if this wasn't a public board, I would be cursing from now untill tomorrow!:D

Some good/bad points:
-KWB didn't say they'd won't air UNMASKED, just have no plans for it at the time.
-The BB live-action film is essentially on hold...permenatly.
-When CN picks up BB they can order new episodes but only if the ratings are Really, really, good.

Keep in mind that KWB has held onto new episodes on other series for insane stretches of time before airing them, so they can swear that they've got a "new season." Batman Beyond, ultimately, is no different. I've got a feeling we'll see Unmasked... eventually.
James Harvey

Yeah, we probably will. They did the NEW SEASON schtick with Superman. I doubt anyone forgot that fiasco.

Mr. Eye -----reply--- Ten years down the line people will remember this great show.. Its been 40 years since the toons that Warners made great, were made, One Froggy Evening, Rabbit of Saville, Duck Amuck..More than 50 years ago Bob Clampett made the Great Piggy Bank Robbery....Oh yeah, we will all forget ...some of those great BATS, each of us has our own ,will not be forgotten..Warners has always been too short sighted to know value..And it will not get better being owned by AOL..it will get worse., but you are right, we will see Unmasked, sooner, maybe latter. maybe straight to video like the others. Good luck to all , old toon guy

NOt to mention the old Fleischer Superman cartoons. WB may forget about Batman Beyond in 10 years, but it's fans never will let the show fade away.
We know how there are revivals of old cartoons to day, such as new Transformers, a new GI Joe comic book etc, well, maybe one day we will get to see a revival for Batman Beyond! I look forward to that day.

Batman Beyond is a cult classic. WHile I can see it being shuffled off KWB, I can't see it being tossed away. It'll still be around. Like BTAS.
Calhoun07
08-19-2001, 11:25 PM
Do you think we will EVER see the show revived tho? Do you think that in fifteen years, when everything is all retro the late 90s and stuff, people will remember Batman Beyond and revive it, either in a new comic book or new animated adventures? I could see it happening!
Chuck Jones made the last road runner in 63, perhaps late 62. In the late 80s he made another road runner that was actually released to theaters with a full length movie..Leave it to the better researchers, to know the title if each fulm So sometime in the future, I do believe, BATS, and BB will be back. When? Who knows, when someone will take a flyer on it being profitable for them.. In TV as in Hollywood, money is all that talks...good luck to all....old toon guy

I agree with you, more BATS, or a live action Batman film. When, who knows? They were talking about a Superman film. There is a great story about the actor Nick Cage. He signed a deal to be Superman that promised him 10 million . The deal was iron clad, he gets the money,no matter what...Well, they could never agree on the script, or something like that, maybe financing, and he refused to take the 10 million..., but someday another Superman movie will be made. But you are right about Batman Beyond, I think that is done.. ps. funny how well the original animated Superman series from the 40s holds up, some of those are really good. (original, the one about the circus, and especially train hold up, that really works well.)
James Harvey
08-21-2001, 01:55 PM
The train hold up is one of my favorite Fleischer eps. I can see BB suriving in reruen son CN for the foreseeable future, but new episodes I just can't see. A feature film...perhaps.

I'd put my money on more direct to video releases. Perhaps after time goes on and WB sees Batman Beyond still has a following they will see the potential to make money off of it (the only thing they care about anyway) and get some new videos out. I just hope Bruce Timm and Paul Dini are on board to do it, and they don't pass the franchise off to someother team.

I'd love to see a live action film with a big budget, a plot, respectable cast, and a capable director who's name doesn't rhyme shoemaker.
Calhoun07
08-22-2001, 11:54 AM
I would love to see that, also, but given WB's treatment of comic book characters in movies in the past, I am not holding my breath for this anytime soon. I think the best hope we have of seeing a live action Batman Beyond film is if it is a fan made movie, unfortunately. Tho some of those do turn out half way decent.

What burns me is that this episode was done almost a year ago. ALl set to air and ready to go. Now? Just being tucked away.
Greed, that is it, during ratings months, as you noted previously, maybe, as far away as next May, maybe November, when they want to catch some of us back for a day, to make things good, that is whent they bring out the good stuff. I will not use the correct language to describe the people at WB. they might delete this post. But they only do it for greed and more ratings. That is why they took off all our favorites. Someone, made a deal on Pokeman, and off went Animaniacs, Unfortunately, Pokeman really did have much higher ratings, with 5-12 year olds. What can we do? Help!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

If someone want to lend a hand we can try using it to right the wrongs of history, including this one. A lot of science fiction, and some good animation, has been written about time travel..In one of the better Superman eps, I think the Justice League goes back in time to stop Superboy from being destroyed by (I've forgotten his name) this villian who has stolen a time machine, and another Superman story, I think the very best, deals with Superman, in that same villian's space ship, looking into time orbs. These orbs show how that villian had destroyed planets.. So Maxie, good luck on the time machine. We really need it.

Sorry, but since you've already gone off topic, i guess i'll go ahead and start my "time shouldn't be tampered w/" rant. Nah, i'll just give on cheezy example:
I remember this one stupid show were something happened in the time stream and caused the Titanic to not sink. But ultimately, this caused the hero of this show to never have existed because on of his relatives died on the ship, leaving the widow to re-marry. And then somewhere along the line this hero was born out of a family caused by the disaster of the Titanic's sinking. We can't change the past; only do our best to determine the future.
Okay, what were we originally talking about? Something about BB being dead in KWB's eyes? Oh yeah, they suck:)
I mean, who knows, maybe KWB canning BB will lead to something better in the future?
DR. BELCH
08-23-2001, 04:17 PM
--if you had a time machine, would you change time on a grand-scope historical scale (i.e. kill Hitler or Stalin or whatever dictator you wished) or on a personal scale (i.e. tell your past self not to sdo/say something that will cost them a job or a relationship or whatnot). I'd say the latter. Monkeying with history on a big scheme could have dire ramifications. Without the influence of many European dictators, science and technology would be vastly set back in America--for example, the great minds who escaped Nazi Germany and came here wouldn't have if not for ol' Schickelgruber, and I shudder to think what technological advances we'd lose. So... in a strange way, some good came out of the Holocaust and the Iron Curtain along with the horrors. Odd how God works....
BourgeoisBuffoon
08-23-2001, 04:38 PM
Oh....right....I cannot believe I was so shortsighted....
...you're right. We should not tamper THAT much of a scale.
Still, I remember reading a story where someone tried to keep Lincoln from being killed, and was raising a big stink about it...but Booth tricked the man and thus got away with the murder anyway!
So that's a new viewpoint: Will history still go on as it did? Is destiny shaping time?
But maybe we should make a new topic for this in the AniGen board....I am extremely sorry to steer this topic off course....
...but still, I wanna give myself fifty bucks from the future!:D
Calhoun07

If something so horrendous happened in the past, global or on a personal level, and I created a time machine for the sole purpose of going back in time to stop the horrendous event from happening, and say I am successful at stopping this horrendous event, when I get back to my present time, will I still have the time machine??? I mean, my sole purpose for creating it was erased in the past, so when I get back to my present day, I will be in an alternate future where I wasn't motivated to have created the time machine, so there would be no time machine. So...will I ever know I stopped the horrendous thing or just go about my life as if nothing happened at all?
And if I go about my life not knowing I did all that, how do I know I haven't done that in my life?
