I suggest overone go to the newsboard and check out the info about an Uncut release of ROTJ! It seems it'll 'likely' happen! These words from Paul Dini!! Use the drop down menu below to get there. Just highlight 'News'.

If it comes out, I'll likely be picking it up, even though I have acopy already. I wonder what it'll have on it as far as special features?...

DVD or VHS? Or is it both?

According to Dini, if it's released - it won't be under the WB FAMILY RELEASES label. It will have a new tradedress and may even be vailable only through DC DIRECT. The producers really want to give this to the fans and believe it will sell well.

I would think it would, as one of the millions who never saw it Uncut.

Sell well? If there is a Batman fan alive that would not buy this, they are not a Batman fan!

Would anybody like to give me a copy then so I could pretend that I bought it?

Sure, I will give you a copy when it comes out! Just send me fifty dollars in cash! :)

I think this'll happen. WB is focusing on the original Batman now, and ROTJ does sorta focus on the original Batman so it's a no brainer. If WB goes ahead with this, we could be seeing up to 6 Batman video releases next year, including episodes, DTVs, and SE DVD editions.

Well it's about time. Though I have a feeling it will probably be a DVD only release.
Special features will probably include most of the ones the cut version had, though an apology from who ever made the decision to release the cut version and than lie to our faces about it would be nice.

My heart leaps with joy at the prospect, while my wallet recoils in horror.

I'd like that and a new commentary so they can really cut lose on it and just go nuts with joy. Other than that - I'll be happy.

Wha?

Wha....?
WB is finally doing something to please the fans? Woo hoo! My $20+ bucks are primed and ready.

I'd pay $35 for a copy! My bro was able to put it on 1 cd in VCD format, so I can watch it on my DVD player now, but it sounds wattery and it had subtitles...and while I shouldn't complain, I'd really like to have it crystal clear w/o that crap..hehe.
DC Direct eh? How would I go about getting a copy of that? I don't have to be a member of anything.....do I?

No I don't think you would. DC Direct is in the Previews Catalog, so I guess you'd have to order it from your comic shop.

I think the new tradedress/dc direct thing is smart to do. THis way it won't fall int he hand sof all those kids it was edited for. I'll definatly be getting this anyway I can. I'd love to see this movie in it's uncut glory on pristine DVD quality.

Yeah, that would be great, I'm hopeing they will release it on VHS also.

I would love to get a apology, I think that would be the greatest speical feature we would get out of it.:)

And if you don't have a comic book store to get it from, there's always mail order. Mile High Comics should have it, as well as Westfield.

That's most likely what I'll have to do if it's through DC direct. I used to have a comic book store near me, but then we moved.

Check out westfieldcompany.com or milehighcomics.com. Mile High is good, but I personally use Westfield.

The apology would be the best thing. Or maybe even an explaination as to what happened Either of that would suit me just fine.

Well, they could hardly put it out without some explanation. Though listening to them try to tap dance around that story might be entertaining in its own perverse way. . . . :p

In the end, an uncut ROTJ is all I darn well want!!

I agree, a special edition release in itself is pretty much an apology. Nice to see the we're getting the REAL ROTJ.
What's good about this is that it will lend a little more credence to the uncut being the canonical of the two. The writers give this official release the thumbs up! Just as they should. Wicked stuff...

maybe after this is released, Dini and Timm will go back to working on projects together? All of the stuff they've worked on is great.
If you think about it, the commentary on the ROTJ DVD was probably re-done after the edits. Meaning they were probably mad at each other then.
They have to release ROTJ un-edited on DVD. And, even though all I really want is a crystal clear version of it un-edited, I would also like to have it full of bonus features..a dvd w/ just the movie..is just.......wrong..

Maybe the release of this version would help heal any old wounds. I'd just love to seea new commentary - just no holds barred. They talk about what went into this, why it got edited, maybe some changes we missed. I'd love it to reflect the CLERKS:UNCENSORED DVD, but with no swearing (just incase for the kiddies).

I am hoping there will be completely different bonus features all around, not just a new commentary. I don't want to see a bunch of stuff repeated from the first release. These two DVDs will make a rather nice two disc set on my shelf.
And since they are going thru DC Direct does that mean we will get it in a (gasp)...KEEP CASE? Oh, the joy if we do!

I'm eager to see how this is handled if it goes through DC Direct. I know it'll be a bit more pricey

As long as it doesn't cost 40 bucks, I'm happy.

I think thirty dollars would be fair, since it's rare to see single disc DVDs go for more than that.
If it does come in a keep case, I am taking the cover insert out and putting it in a double disc case (ala Gladiator, not a fat double disc case) and I will put the original released ROTJ in there as the second disc and I will officialy retire the crapper case from my shelf. And gladly, I might add.
James Harvey
08-19-2001, 11:09 PM
DC Direct would likely make the price around $25 or so, which isn't too bad. While I got the edited ROTJ for far less, I just want an unedited to grace my collection.
Bird Boy

I never even imagined watching the Un-edited in DVD quality (w/o Subtitles, and w/o the "Property of WHV. If you have rented or purchased this cassette, please call 1-800-NO-COPIES" stuff)...now..it may just be true........When a release date is announced, I'll go nag my comic book shop to order me a copy! :)
as for the price..I don't expect it to be anymore than $30.. and a keeper case would rock..but what if.. *gasp* they did it like the Akira DVD? And released in a TIN Case? man..that'd so kick...

In a TIN CASE with the screenplay (the book that was released) would be NICE! I would gladly pay the extra cash to get that baby! I'd just want to see it in unedited glory.
It's funny - I was going through the old boards and say someone mention that WB would likely release the unedited on DVD eventually. I just chuckled to myself when I read that.

As far as I know, that poster that mentioned that might have been ME! Was it? (I don't feel like looking to see!) I always knew the unedited version would come out sooner or later, but it seems like the project got killed every time it tried to come to fruition. So I think another extra feature on the DVD would be some kind of featurette showing the battle to get this version out, and all the failed attempts in the past.

I go back and look at it and I thinkit was Maxie at the old fashioned boards. Man, there was at least 5 archives filled with ROTJ this and that.

That's ok! You don't have to go back to look. Thanks for the offer, tho.
