This comes from comingsoon.net...

The Hollywood Reporter writes that scribe duo Tom Firestone and Martin Meunier have sold the pitch Antonius to Disney's feature animation division.

The project follows the story of a leopard in ancient Egypt who becomes a freedom fighter. It will be developed as a traditional animation project.

Hmmmm. A freedom fighting leopard in ancient Egypt? Sounds a little goofy. But when you put the words "Alien who crash lands in Hawaii who likes Elvis songs" together, it sounds goofy too. This will be interesting to see in 3 or 4 years, it if even comes together. This one sounds like it could be another PG rated Disney film. I hope it is. This one could be another surprise like Lilo and Stitch was.

A diseased person as a hero?

Disney is going have difficulities pitching this story to families if they decide to make it into a movie.

And not leper, as in the disease with the horrible sores and whatnot.

As someone said it does sound a little Lion Kingish. But, I am glad to see they want to use traditional animation. I should be glad that it isn't another sequel.

Sounds very Lion King-ish. Perhaps they're hoping for another cash cow ala Simba and the gang, thinking since it's similar it could work. I don't know. I'm still a little iffie on this news.

I read this news over at Animated-Movies.com and thought that the story has some potential. While on the surface it sounds similair to the Lion King I think it could prove to be so much more - as long as his father isn't killed by his Uncle Scar and forced into exile. Either way - I'm looking forward to what this project will look like.

Sounds like it could be interesting. Being a person who likes most Disney movies and cats, I'll probably enjoy it if they decide to make it. I'm glad to hear that it'll most likely be traditional animation. My big question is, if they make it, would it be musical or not? I'm one of those few people who actually likes musicals, but Disney seems to be heading away from that...
