The first Country Bears won't hit theaters until next summer, but Disney is already planning a sequel to the movie. Disney has commissioned Paul Rugg, screenwriter of the first film, to pen the sequel. No plot details have been released, but there are rumors that the sequel may bring the bears to more exotic locales. No actors or directors have yet been attached, and it's unclear when the movie will be released.

Rugg has previously worked on a variety of Warner Brothers programs, from Tiny Toons to Animaniacs to Freakazoid!, and provided the voice of Freakazoid as well. Reports indicate the first Country Bears movie will contain much of Rugg's trademark anarchic humor.

The Country Bears movie will be of especially strong interest to fans of modern-day Warner Brothers animation, as the producer of the Pinky and the Brain TV series, Peter Hastings, will direct the live-action feature, and recurring Pinky and the Brain characature Christopher Walken has been cast as principal villain Ried Thimple.

Both movies are based on the Country Bears attraction at Disneyland.
