I always thought jpgs were safe and it was the exp's you had to worry about. I would hate to think I'm behind the times

Well, I'm not sure if you can...

I do know that a person can spoof the file name so an executable file or Visual basic file can look like a Jpeg to the untrained eye.

(this would work on everyone in my family except for me and 1 other cousin)

Also you can Imbed information within a JPEG that would be inactive such as a virus, secret codes, other files, etc.

These are as close to an auctual jpeg virus as I know of. But if it is possible, I haven't heard of it myself... yet.

I downloaded a file, my programs scans files, I tried to send it to someone via hotmail and it said there was a virus. I scanned the file again, it showed no signs of any infection

I ran a full virus inspection and found nothing. I deleted the image and went back to ebay and got another image. Different person, different image. It came up with the same thing. Did all of my tests again. Downloaded a non ebay picture and no problems. Is this something with ebay or hotmail?

I sent someone a picture of the Dr. Doom heroclix and they said they saved it 10 times and couldn't see anything. This was last week. I'm wondering if it's hotmail

uggghhh MSN and hotmail. I use Bellsouth DSL, but I have used MSN and use hotmail, both SUCK, especially MSN, it's SO SLOW over 56k it runs like it's 5K. I think people shouldfile a lawsuit against MSN becuase they are not giving people what they are supposed to be giving them, and sometimes it won't let you in your mailbox. I beleive that's called witholding mail..WHICH IS ILLEGAL. I have to keep MSN until this dumb deal my dad signed runs out, but I must say I despise it to a veyrlarge extent. I wouldn't be suprised if Hotmail had a virus....or Ebay for that matter.
