It should be a fairly straight up question. What Americian animated show has the best art?

Go.

Presently?

I'd say either Ripping Friends or Justice League.

Of all time?

Tougher, much tougher.

I like most of the Cartoon Cartoon's animation. Right now I am having a major brain fart and I can't think of anymore unless, you would count The Animaniacs, Pinky and The Brain and Freakazoid.

Hmmm.....

Samurai Jack has wonderful art. Not using lines is the best thing to happen to animation since the cell.

Mission Hill has a style all it's own in animation. Using "trails" is a wonderful effect.

Allthough I think it lacks somthing script-wise, Courage the Cowardly Dog has great character desgin, layout, and amazing backgrounds.

Pepper Ann. I hope Kids Next Door has good writing, beacuse it looks darn pretty.

Invader Zim. Just look at all of the side charcters, the dark backgrounds and purple, black and blues colour palet. Don't forget CGI, great layout, and expressions.

Whatever Happened to Robot Jones. The show needs some serious tweaking writing-wise, but the art is a great throwback to Schoolhouse Rock.

That's about all. There might be more that jump into my head, who knows?

I think X-Men Evolution and Jackie Chan Adventures currently are the two most appealing and most smoothly animated series, from America, currently on TV.
Justice League IS really good, but I hate to say, after so many years of the infamous Bruce Timm 'boxy' stlye, I guess it just doesn't appeal to me that much anymore. Don't get me wrong, I do love it, but...I guess Jackie Chan is slightly more original in deisgn than a lot of the Timm-esque stuff floating around everywhere.

Samurai Jack is like a classic Japanese Tapestry in motion. I love it.

this can be a very vague question. are you asking an a show made for an american audience, or a show that has been animated here in the states? a show made for an american audience does not necessisarily mean it was animated here in the states.

The new He-man is looking pretty good.

Most of the 90's DC superhero cartoons have had good art.

I like X-Men E's look.

Samauri Jack of coarse gets a nod for it's styalized backgrounds, and lump Kim possible in there aksi for it's great charecter designs and fluid animation.

I'm sure there are alot of others.

Samurai Jack certainly goes somewhere at the top as far as artistic merit is concerned.

Batman: TAS (and all other WB superhero cartoons that followed because of its success)
Gargoyles
Invader Zim
Ren & Stimpy (when it didn't focus on the gross-out humor)

There are others, I'm sure. But those are the only ones I can think of at the moment. I'd include ReBoot and War Planets on the list as well, but those are Canadian shows.

Yeah I pretty much applaund most of Disney's movies (artistically) from the last 12 years. Say what you want about the singing animals and stuff but the people drawing those movies are masters at their craft, I can only be amazed.

The only one I didn't really like the designs for was Pocahontas, actually I didn't like the movie as a whole, but it's just that the people looked to chiseled for my liking.

Last 12 years? I'm of the opinion that artistically, the *first* 40 or so years in Disney history features some of the most accomplished cartooning and draftsmanship in cartoon history. There are a lot of talented animators out there working for Disney now, I don't doubt that, but I personally think from a creative, experimental and artistic standpoint, few now could hold a candle to the sheer talents of the original Nine Old Men.

I judge art by its uniqueness, rather than detail and how fluid it is, so most "standard" looking shows (which includes much of disney and many cartoon cartoons) while well-written, fall short of being really artistic in my book.

I agree on Zim, Samurai Jack, and Courage.

Courage also has artistic writing/music... almost every episode has a unique track to it and it focuses more on being eerie and meaningful than being funny or action-packed (a lot of people hate courage because they say "it just isnt funny"... I never actually thought it was intended to be humor-oriented)

Well of coarse I agree that the first 40 years or so of Disney where incredible Larry. I mean something like Sleeping Beauty with it's style of design, or Pinochio and the inventive way they made the fairy dust look like it was really magical. That was before Disney became crazy with the greed thing.

I'm just saying that they have really put some time into the new ones artistically (maybe they could have spent more time developing story and charecter in some) and each movie has anywhere from 4 to 5 years in production.

What I'm saying is that now

Hmm... Before I say the obvious (points to avatar), I must say I think Invader Zim's art is very cool. ;) I also like Justice League's art. Oh, yeah, and Samurai Jack, of course. :D ;) :D

I don't consider this "the best" but it is a rather unique style. I like "Whatever happened to Robot Jones"'s artwork. While crude. It is neat.

I could think of only two. Samurai Jack and Invader ZIM. In terms of artwork, character design, color usage, and all around animation, few, American or otherwise, compare.

Aqua Teen Hunger Force. It easily has the most detailed and fluid animation of any show in any country.

Right now I'm really a fan of X-Men: Evolution's art style and animation. It's simple, yet very fluid. The character's expressions are classic.
