I don't remember the episode name of Smallville where there's yet another "freak of the week" (as they're called) where an elderly man falls into a Kryptonite-infested pond while being shocked by a wire and he becomes young again.
In this episode there's a blind elderly woman who can see the future when she touches someone. I need an interpretation of her last vision with Lex Luthor because I don't read comic books. She sees:
the Presidential Seal
Lex in a field of sunflowers which wilt and die in his presence
it starts raining blood on Lex
I understand the first one is predicting that Lex becomes the U.S. president. I know that happens in the comic books. I don't understand the next two. Do they refer to anything specific in the comics or are they just general signs that Lex will cause much death and destruction?

I go with him causing death and destruction,he going to cause when he becomes older and him doing unexplanable things to get to the top.

The blood image must mean he's simply going to go evil and start costing lives at some point; the dying sunflowers could mean turning his back on SMALLVILLE in particular - though I'd think that it'd be better to use corn in that image. :)

of course everyone knows the meaning of the presedential scenery... the rest really is just a symbol of how Lex will ultimately go from the supposed well-meaning individual, to the evil villain we all know... the flowers dying, and the blood... it's all pure symbolism of his eventual descent into evil...

One other bit of significance to that scene that you may not have caught... Lex has a black glove on one hand. In the comics, during John Byrne's run, Lex lost one of his hands due to radiation poisoning from his kryptonite ring. He had the hand amputated, and wore a black glove over the artificial hand that replaced it.

Wow, really? Interesting little tidbit there, very cool. And I always assumed, the besides the fact that the president thing was a directly related to the comics, was that the blood and wilting flower with symbols of how Lex becomes this evil millionaire, and that he destroys everything good and only does harm.

While I agree that the raining of blood and the flowers wilting around Lex is a representation of his descent into evil I think that a second possibility is that it was actually caused by the elderly ladies death - I mean it's entirely possible that she suffered a form of a stroke and saw everything in her vision dying - much like she was.

The episode title was "Hourglass", and it's one of my favorites, even if it does contain the usual freak of the week.
I like to think Cassandra died because of all the horrible things she saw in Lex's future. It makes me wonder if Lex suspected that himself, especially considering the look on his face when he sees that she's dead and the way he hurries out of the room. Everything else is just symbolism of how evil he becomes, like dc_gothamite said.

Yes, it looks like (from the posts so far) that the only direct reference to the comics are the presidential election and the amputated hand. The rest of the vision is just metaphorical.

I directly knew about the hand and the Luthor For President storyline, but the symbolism was simple to figure out. It should be interesting to see how long this show pans out.
