I was reading Flash: Iron Heights last night, and there was a cameo by an old Flash/Justice League villain named Dr. Alchemy. His profile stated that he possessed the Philospher's Stone (Sorceror's Stone) and, with it, had the ability to transmute any element into any other element. This is the same stone that Morgaine Le Fey and Etrigan will apparently be seeking in A Knight of Shadows. Do any of you think that Dr. Alchemy could appear?

Hmm...interesting question...

I don't think we'll see Dr. Alchemy in "A Knight of Shadows" but I do think that this would be the perfect opportunity for Timm and Co. to introduce us to a character that will later become Dr. Alchemy (something they have often done in past series). Hopefully the stone will be given to the future Dr. Alchemy and we'll see him make an appearance in Season 2.

This episode is in reference to Jack Kirby's Demon comic stories. The philosopher's stone in thoise stories is different from the philosopher's stone in the Flash comics.

Can someone please explain to me - is this Sorceror's/Philosopher's Stone an actual mythilogical object, or is it confined to comics and books? I'm curious because, until reading the summary for "A Knight In Shadows" (BTW, is it 'In' or 'Of'?), I thought it was a concoction of J.K.Rowling. :)

Howdy,

The Philosopher's Stone is a mythological object that's a lot older than J.K. Rowling and Harry Potter. It's most commonly used to refer to an alchemical object that could turn lead to gold, among other things.

There's an essay on the Philosopher's stone at http://www.quackgrass.com/stone.html, which covers the basic history within its initial paragraphs. Then it starts talking about Aristotle and first means and I got distracted by a shiny object. A lot of the other websites you find when you search for the name seem to take the thing seriously, so take any articles on it with a grain of salt the size of an armadillo.
