View Full Version : So is Dini onboard for the JLA toon?

I heard that he would write one ep, and then I heard that he was giving it to another writer to handle. And now I'm just confused.

He was set to write a GL/Flash episode but hande dit over shortly after he began. As of now he won't be writing any episodes for JL.

I heard it was some kind of injury or something. Am I right?

Hopefully, he'll do an episode or two for the second season.

Yep, Dini said he had to "bow out" because of a recent injury. No one's quite sure what that injury was/is but I believe the current theory floating around the boards is "bruised ego".

You mean he's still sulking over the ROTJ edits?
Mr. Obsession

Kind of, to the best of my knowledge Timm and Dini still aren’t on speaking terms.
But if someone has a report to the contrary I'd love to hear it.

Why are Timm and Dini upset at each other? I never got the answer. It can't be over BB ROTJ edits because neither of them wanted it right?
The Mad Hatter

Neither of them wanted edits, but one of them (Timm, I think) went ahead and authorized and implemented the edits without the other knowing.
Though there had been rising "creative differences" for a while... that just brought things to a head.

There's a lot of gossip floating around, with different details, or with details changed around. For instance, Mad Hatter reports hearing the Timm authorized the edits without consulting Dini; I heard it was the other way around. ::shrug::
Those who know aren't talking--and I for one am actually glad they're not. Who wants to see dirty underwear washed in public?

From what I heard, and from someone who worked on the show (I know becuase he's high profile on the show. I'd tell you his name but then he'd cut off my tongue). From what I was told Timm did the cuts, but wasn't pleased with the extensive changes. Dini got them approved without consulting Timm and it went downhill from there.

But regardless of who went ahead with the cuts, it was neither Dini's nor Timm's fault. Rather, the blame falls on WB. They're the ones that ordered it, which really didn't give Dini and Timm any choice. It's unfortunate, though, that things are never that simple. I'm hoping the two can realize there's no reason for hard feelings and do what they do best as a team.

Paul has been suffering with a wrist injury for the past three months and is just starting to feel better (In fact when he wrote the intro for my book he wrote me he was actually in pain)
He is getting better and will not be working on JLA but as DG said was at a time doing the GL/Flash team up.
Paul is however working on other projects inclusing the Batman's greatest team up video.
The Wonder woman book with Alex Ross.
His comic Jingle Belle and the Zatanna series for DC comics.
and a possible Syndicate Jonah Hex series. (live action)

We all suddenly sit up and start paying attention. What exactly is this? Just a compilation tape of some kind, or something new and exciting. . . ?

Are you serious? Like, that's actually happening? Anything with Plastic Man is a good thing. I don't know how many people know this, but I am a gigantic Plastic Man fan. He's probably my favorite active superhero.

Plastic Man animated? And likely annoying the crap out of Batman?
Happy surprise #3!! Ooooh, this has been a darn good day.
By the way, BB ROTJ stands for Batman Beyond: Return of the Joker... which will probably be coming out uncensored soon!

Note to self: Believe xbuilder more often.
Man, wouldn't it be awesome if we not only got ROTJ uncut, but ALSO with the scenes that were deleted even from the EXISTING uncut? And a DVD packed with as many features as the existing DVD? They could show the process it took, getting ROTJ cut, and finally releasing it uncut! That'd work out really well. Man, this would be the only DVD I would order in advance.

Well I wish I could tell you guys everything I know. Most of you would just drop dead with glee.
others would just go mad with delight.
but I can tell you all that Paul was at one time doing the Worlds finest script. But dropped out because the studio was being an arse.

Studio being an arse? There's a shocker.
I'm sure that, like you said, there's tons of stuff you know that you can't tell us. BUT.... would it be forbidden to let us know when these videos may be coming out?

He was still doing script work on them last week.

Dangit, I hate when people clam up. Oh, well, I'm sure we'll all know sooner or later. My big gripe is that I still don't understand why we can't know. I mean, it's not like it's for national security or anything. Spoiling plots is one thing, but not letting us know what's going on behind the scenes is another. Could someone please explain this to the confused teenager?

In the Comic and Television industry both deals are made that tend to fall through.
I don't want to pass around info unless I'm 90% certain itll happen and or will be announced soon.

Aha. So if the scripts are still being banged out, I figure we've got a year's wait at least. But hey, if everyone does their usual great jobs on them, I can be patient.

It's a shame, I would've like to have seen the Joker/Bane story that Kirkland did being greenlighted. It was a shame it was shelved.

What's even more a shame that it was shelved was the 4th season of STAS. But that's another story altogether.

The end of the 3rd season of Superman was so good it looked like the setup for a forth season would have an ongoing subplot of Superman not being trusted anymore and having to prove to everyone he still is the Worlds Greatest Hero (maybe in a all out fight to stop Doomsday ala Death of Superman). It's a shame we'll never get to see that.
James Harvey
08-19-2001, 06:15 PM
Actually, the 4th season would be a host of team-ups as SUperman teams with various heroes to eventually form the JL. This would then lead into the JL series which would have actually aired on Kids'WB! but all those plans were scrapped for BB. It's funny becuase Timm and Dini still wanted to do some JL stuff and were going to work it into what would've been BB's 4th season. Then WB didn't order any new episodes and stopped that...
kid_flash
08-20-2001, 02:27 AM
Well, that royally sucks. Sounds like all the cool stuff that was gonna happen got trashed. I knew about the 4th season of STAS, but I didn't know about BB.
Clayface
08-20-2001, 03:08 AM
By the way, at the Wizard World convention, Dini also said that he would be writing something for the JL show if there is a second season.
James Harvey
08-21-2001, 02:01 PM
And there will be a second season - you can count on it! BB's 4th season was gonne be divided in 2:
1 - 7 JLU focused episodes
6 Bruce Wayne focused episodes.

Last I heard from Dini there was going to be no new Batman Beyonds

There isn't going to be any new BB. That's old news. But if there was going to be a new season, it would've been divided into JLU/BW episodes. It would've been great to see those. I wish WB ordered new episodes...
