I consider Batman and Batman Returns to be related, simply for the Vicki Vale reference...BF and BR though..no, other than The Riddlers and Two-Faces suits where Mr. Freezes was in Arkham, I don't consider them to be related..

I really hate to think of them as one series, and would much rather put the first two in their own catagory.

The only thing that really lets us know that they were intended to be one united series is Nicole Kidman's Catwoman reference in Forevor.

What catwoman reference? The director of BF and (dare I say it) B&R sai that BF is set 3 years after BR. So I guess they are one series.

I view all 4 movies as Elseworlds movies. Thats the only way they will be right in my mind. I'm not saying that I hate the movies even though I may like some less than others, but all four movies to me are Elseworlds stories and the definitive Batman movie is Mask of the Phantasm. Hopefully the new Batman Year one movie or the Batman vs. Superman movie will show us the definitive live action version of Batman at the very least. It will be hard to top BTAS. If not, then we will have yet another Elseworlds movie.

I think I'd rather consider them all unrelated to each other! But that's mostly because I wasn't fond of Batman Returns, and after that, the last two just got so dang cheesy, despite having Robin. The only thing that seemed to relate Batman and Batman Returns, and Batman Forever and Batman and Robin was that the first two were really "dark", and the last two were incredibly fake and "neon".

I think they were INTENDED to be connected, but they really were just a continuity disaster. Bruce had a different girlfriend in every movie, with no explanation as to why he was no longer with the previous one. Gotham looks like the whole place has been re-modeled between Batman Returns and Batman Forever. Again, no explanation. Heck, they changed Harvey Dent's race. I understand if Billy Dee Williams wasn't available at the time, but there are other African-American actors who could do just as well. I would say that there was no explanation again, but there is no way they could explain going from black to white. I think you're better off considering them all to be stand-alone movies. If only I were in charge of re-writing the screenplays.
