View Full Version : movie
A movie produced in the mid 50s, no one has heard of called, The Beginning of the End, giant grasshoppers take over Chicago..Don't know if my previous post got thru. Not as good as "Them" the best of the bunch. But worth a laugh..:D Best of Luck, old toon guy.

Yeah, I've seen that one, it's pretty funny. I have a tape of when Mystery Science Theater 3000 heckled it.

And the giant grasshoppers are scaling up a postcard of the Wrigley Building...or was that the Tribune Tower?
Now I have to go find that MST3k ep to find out, poit.

Well, I have HEARD of that one...but there was a 1970's movie that was even worse. Ever heard of "Night of the Lepus"?Funny stuff, although I doubt it was on MST3K before. It's one of those "science experiment in genetics goes awry" films in which an experimental breeding disaster ends up creating giant rabbits. The rabbits eat people and destroy Piggly-Wiggley stores. I am NOT making this up!

(check one of the Leonard Maltin critique books if you don't believe me.)
I once saw a movie called "The Man Of X," I think. Anyway, this man is like a scientist, and he invents an eye-drop solution that causes x-ray vision, only, he sees freaky psyadellic scenery. He keeps taking the drug, goes nuts, and while running from people who want to help him, he stumbles into a revival meeting in a tent. The preacher is just then quoting the "if your eyes offend you, pull them out" (I don't remember the exact quote, my mind is blank). Hearing this, he rips out his eyes (off camera) and then he looks up and we see a cheesy makeup effect of him eyeless.
I loved that movie, though...
If you want really cheesy, watch "War Of The Worlds" with the lampost alien-things that fly around on Nintendo contols.

The name of that movie is X - The Man With X-Ray Eyes. I enjoy it also. For the record, it stars Ray Milland. Don Rickles is also in it and also quite good in it.
In his book, Danse Macabre, Stephen King says that there was a line of dialogue cut from the ending. King says that Milland said, "I can still see!!" after he plucks out his own eyeballs. Sounds like a crazy rumor one would hear in a newsgroup. ;)
Speaking of crazy rumors, I think I once heard that Tim Burton was thinking about remaking X - The Man With X-Ray Eyes. I'd rather see the once-rumored Beetlejuice Goes Hawaiian.

Has also heard of Night Of The Lupus and remembers it used to play often on the CBS Late Movie

But it was on the Spvengoolie Show (or whatever it's called.) That's where I caught it, when I was visiting my sister in Chicago. Spvengoolie sang 'There's Big Hare For You' (to the tune of 'I'll Be There For You') during the commercial break, and pointed out the scene with the "giant killer stagehand." It's been my favorite Entertainingly Awful movie ever since.
As one reviewer so aptly put it, "An ant magnified a thousand times is a monster. A bunny magnified a hundred times is still a bunny."
