Friday night's premiere of SAMURAI JACK (Aug. 10, 7-8:15 p.m.), Cartoon Network's new action-adventure original series from Dexter's Laboratory creator Genndy Tartakovsky, charted double- and triple-digit rating and delivery increases across households and all key demographics.

The feature-length animated trilogy scored a 1.7 household rating and delivered 1,252,000 households. Encore telecasts of the program drew even larger numbers, culminating on Sunday night (Aug. 12, 8-9:15 p.m.) with a 2.0 household rating and delivery of 1,458,000 households. A total of 2,880,000 different viewers tuned in to the premiere, with 11,520,000 different persons tuning in over the five weekend plays.

Kids were not the only audience attracted to the new cartoon action-hero on Friday night. Adult ratings posted substantial increases compared to last year, notably with adults 18-34, which grew 167 percent, from a 0.3 to 0.8. Delivery also jumped 144 percent to 347,000 adult 18-34 viewers.

Cartoon Network, with a 1.3 total day HH rating, finished the week tied for second place (with Lifetime) among ad-supported cable networks. In prime time, Cartoon Network finished the week with a 1.8 HH rating, tied for third place (with Nickelodeon) among ad-supported cable networks.

SAMURAI JACK tells the story of a great warrior displaced to the distant future by the evil shape-shifting wizard Aku. The world has become a bleak place under Aku's rule, segregated into fantastic tribes and policed by Aku's evil robot warlords. Samurai Jack travels this foreign landscape in search of for the time portal that can return him to his home.
