Comic Con is a ridiculously hard place to get information from if you're miles and miles away. Thankfully, Livingfruitvirus, sporadic poster here and owner of PPGWorld.com, has computer access, and has info to give. We'll be updating this news thread as more news comes in about Cartoon Network from him.
New Adult Swim Action Acquisitions
Though the Comic Con panel was mostly filled with executives from the comedy division, there was still plenty of news to discuss about Adult Swim Action. First up is Viz's action comedy, Inu-Yasha. This has been rumored in the past and is now finally confirmed for airing on ASA.
The surprise acquisition is Bandai's Ghost in the Shell TV! And a show people have been debating the home of for some time now, Big O 2, has also found its home at ASA. Cartoon Network is having the show produced exclusively for them. No other details have surfaced about any possible video release.
Miscellaneous Adult Swim Comedy news
There won't be any new episodes of Mission Hill or The Oblongs. Likely because the original production cost of either show was too costly to begin with.
Rejected won't be airing for a while, due to continued problems with lawyers.
None of the Adult Swim pilots will be greenlighted for series until all of them have aired. They should all likely air by the end by the year, and Cartoon Network should make their decision by then (and remember, "none of the above" IS a choice).
New episodes of Adult Swim shows in October
This includes Aqua Teen Hunger Force, Harvey Birdman, Sealab 2021, and the Brak Show.
The Ripping Friends coming to Adult Swim Comedy
A deal is currently being worked on with Spumco to air The Ripping Friends on ASC. This will include all of the original FOX episodes (including the ones FOX did not air due to 9/11), as well as brand new ones produced exclusively for Cartoon Network.
Ripping Friends is the superhero comedy series by John Kricfaluski, legendary creator of Nickelodeon's cartoon powerhouse "Ren and Stimpy".
Shonen Jump and AdultSwim.com team up for Adult Swim Reactor
With the upcoming release of the US version of Shonen Jump, a monthly magazine featuring the hottest manga from Yu Yu Hakusho to Yu-Gi-Oh, several sites have been reporting that Viz, the company responsible for bringing it to America, has developed somewhat of a partnership with Cartoon Network's AdultSwim.com. And now, at Comic Con, more details have been revealed.
Besides the ability to sample pages from the magazine on the website, Williams Street is launching a brand new streaming service called "Adult Swim Reactor."
Similar in vein to the other streaming service "Toonami Reactor," viewers will be able to stream episodes of anime from the magazine, including One Piece. The difference is, the anime will follow Adult Swim editting guidelines(if any at all), and Williams Street is considering experimenting with subtitles, rather than dub. The interface is reportedly much similar to the normal AS.com look as well, with the pool images intact. There's no details on when this service will start.
Char's Counterattack to air on Adult Swim.
Bandai has been preparing Char's Counterattack for a limited theatrical run, and announced that it was also coming to Cartoon Network a while back. Now it's been confirmed that it's airing on Adult Swim.
Char's Counterattack takes place in Universal Century 0093, fourteen years after the events of Mobile Suit Gundam. It's the continued story of Amuro Ray and Char Aznable, whose bitter rivalry comes to an climax when Char attempts to destroy the Earth with asteroids to force all life to vacate to outer space, and Amuro Ray is the only one that can stop him.
The movie is reportedly pretty tame in content and should fit on Adult Swim with barely any editing, if at all. No date has been given for the airing. The theatrical run itself will start in the fall.
