We're just a month away from the one-year anniversary of Adult Swim, and I'm here asking, is it everything you hoped? Will I be making a 2 year anniversary thread next year? Or has the Y7 ASA and the Baby Blues, Pilot Candidates, and Brak Show's worn down your patience?

My patience is wearing thin with people whose every post consists of "AS is doomed, it is all reruns and repeats, its ratings suck, and no one is going to watch it for much longer"

AS have given me more than I expected from it. Good shows (several at any rate), growing and changing lineup (always a plus), and it gives me something to watch on Saturdays and Sundays. With all things considered I would mark the one year AS aniversary as a positive event.

Adult Swim is doomed...

...if someone actually dove into an empty pool :p .

As far as the shows go, I'm happy. Home Movies was good, so was Bebop, the short comedies are mostly okay, Gundam rocks. It should be around by next year. Not much hype about the new season, most is speculation and rumor, but there are new episodes on ASC, so yeah!

Later.

I don't know what to expect for the block's first anniversary. Will CN even celebrate it?

IMO AS has been far more successful than I thought it would be, ASC anyway. Blocks usually take three to five years to reach the number of great, original programming that ASC has experienced from the beginning, and there's nowhere to go but up. ASA, still gaining acceptance.

As far as I'm concerned Adult Swim's been one amazing success. Sky's the limit now!

Adult Swim introduced me to Cowboy Bebop. How could I badmouth it?

I am excited, they better celebrate it. Adult Swim is a big thing for Cartoon Network, never within the many years this channel has been around would I have thought they would have cartoon line-up for adults. I really think this line-up is great because IMO Fox only has one cartoon I like on Prime Time and that of course is The Simpsons. King of the Hill can be annoying at times (the new episodes flat-out suck) and Futurama just isn't funny to me, and the morons cancelled Family Guy. Except for South Park, Comedy Central doesn't have their great cartoon block anymore, and if they do it's not on a time that anybody notices. As for MTV, Celebrity Death Match (if that's still on) gets old fast. So Cartoon Network made a great decision by making this and broke away from being another Nickelodeon and made itself truly the 24-hour cartoon channel.

Which reminds me, why did cartoon network ever have that show Big Bag? There's nothing to do with cartoons on the show. I guess back then they just wanted to focus on kids only.

Big Bag and Small World were used to meet CN's weekly educational programming requirement.

I can't beleive it's almost been an entire year! But so far AS has completly ruled my sunday nights. Honestly it's just an awesome block, it was always comforting to watch before having to go back to school, during those torturous times that are now once again approaching. Oh well I'll have AS to help :). I really don't think I have seen a network programming block deliver what it's promised as well as (EDIT: ASC...oops) has done. They truly have done a fantastic job delivering hillarity to my eyes and ears the past 12 months ^^ . Congrats WS & keep up the good work!

ASC definatley has lived up to my expectations. ASA hasn't. Although ASA is a few months behind. Hell, they'll both get better in time :)

I agree, I meant to put ASC in that last post not ASA...I was tired I guess, ASA is OK, but it's not as good yet.

Question 2- Should the CN celebrate? <My idea, use the Pilots as candles on a big cake and have Hesh do his birthday song>

I must agree there. I wouldn't be a CB fan now if it weren't for ASA. AS is in its first year, it seemed to have developed a good following. I'm looking forward to year #2. BTW, I love Yuyu Hakusho too. I just wanted to add that.

The original Adult Swim (before it got separated into 2 separate blocks) really lived up to my expectations. I have no complaints here.

Adult Swim Comedy (after it became a separate block on its own) also lived up to my expectations. Again, I have no complaints here. (I can't wait for the upcoming revamp, by the way. :D)

Adult Swim Action... well, that's sort of a mixed bag. FUNimation did a great job with Yu Yu Hakusho, and Cowboy Bebop was over there now, but everything else was just plain wrong. The so-called "TV-PG ratings" that the shows were going to receive were hyped up, and even though quite a few edits were brought back to Gundam 0083, they still weren't enough to pull the rest of the series away from that TV-Y7 rating. What's worse is that they put Toonami shows on the block, and not even they were re-edited to Adult Swim standards! Now, I don't mean disrespect to ASA. I somewhat like this block, but it still has some building up to do, and the recent return of Mobile Suit Gundam, even though it's a Toonami show, made me regain my respect just a little bit. I've missed a lot of episodes during its run last year, and I'm glad I get to see what I missed. :)

Hmm...this makes me wonder. Now that one year is gone, we get to see two different types of AS. The original AS (meaning the earlier block where comedy and action were combined together), and the new AS (meaning two blocks that are ASC and ASA). Which would you prefer?

Wow, time has really passed by quickly. I've only missed like 3 or 4 ASC shows.

Adult Swim is everything I expected it to be, it's genius. Home Movies, Sealab 2021, The Brak Show, Harvey Birdman all genius.

It's ironic because at first I thought it was going to suck, CN being a kid oriented channel for such a long time and then they slap this adult oriented stuff in there, didn't seem like it fitted on CN, I thought it was going to do poorly and be pulled off by the second month...

...it proved me wrong. I've learned to like the show and most shows there have become my favorites. :wakko:

I'm happy with Adult Swim, for the most part. Sure, they've had some misfires, but that's to be expected. And to answer jetwing5's question: I liked it better when Adult Swim was combined into one night. I mean really, what's the point of Adult Swim Action? We could have had Cowboy Bebop air Sundays at midnight and then Yu Yu Hakusho air at 12:30. What's the point of premiering Toonami shows on Adult Swim. I think the thing I'm the most sore about is that because Gundam 0083 and Pilot Candidate premiered on Adult Swim and not Toonami, we were deprived of seeing some awesome Toonami commercials. I mean really, the commercials for the premier of Pilot Candidate and Gundam 0083 on Adult Swim flat-out sucked!

But overall, I think it's been a success. I'm looking forward to the future!

I think the original setup was great. Not only did you get all of the good stuff in one night, if you missed something, there was Thursday night and you could see anything you missed.

I think, ASC didn't suffer to much from the split, as it was the core of the block. It gained a bad show, but made up for it with a great show later on. My only complaint was that they could have aired both ATHF and Brak on the same night but still chose not to, so they could show same night repeats. And, it was able to maintain a sort of nightly continuity, instead of the out of place, though excellent in everyh way, CB, the whole night was comedy.

The split to ASA was done way too early. With only one show worthy of AS at launch, and now two 6 months later, it was shameless abuse of the AS name to air Toonami shows that were either too bad, already shown, or wouldn't fit on Toonami. WS should have done the split this September, when it looks like they'll have at least three shows lined up, instead of just rushing it the way the did. The were damn near close to killing the whole AS name with bad moves like this.
