Nelson

Our dear Toon Forums brother, Sveven never gets the chance to other excellent cartoons from the other studios. And I was thinking what other cartoons he would liketo see, besides Looney Tunes & Merrie Melodies cartoons.

Boy, there is a lot of cartoons that Sveven would love besides WB cartoons.Which cartoon shorts do you think we should recomend Sveven to watch and enjoy :) :) :)
The Alvin Show, I love that one... I know I'd love to see most of what Nelson has listed... BTW, you ever have any luck finding Fox and Crow cartoons?
And if one has to be a theatrical completist, Columbia released the Hanna-Barbera "Loopy-de-Loop" cartoons theatrically (even though they don't look it).

I think he has more than enough to whine about, as it is...

We should turn on Sveven to other classic cartoons(even if he whines a lot) cause he's missing out on a lot of great and excellent stuff here.
I don't think I'd call it whining, he just likes to stick with what's "tried and true." Trying different things is always a good thing, though.

It ain't classic, but he needs some Marvel and Sunbow in his animation diet-
G.I. Joe: A Real American Hero (avoid DIC at all costs)
Transformers
Jem
Visionaries
Dungeons & Dragons
Spider-Man and His Amazing Friends
The Incredible Hulk
I'm not even going to mention the suggested daily Filmation diet, lest things get *too* heated.... :p

I agree w/Nelson. Sveven needs to expose himself to other cartoons series, not just WB cartoons. Not that cartoons will make him a better person, but he's denying himself the pleasure of seeing other series and judging them on their own merit.
Besides, I think he'd like Heckle & Jeckle. I sure do!

I wish I could curse at all of you at a time like this. You want to confuse me. Well, it's not working. Also, wise guys, Willie Whopper and Flip the Frog are not MGM, since classic MGM cartoons started in 1934.

It's fine if you want to watch other cartoons, but you can't make me.:p

They were MGM cartoons, just made by a different company, just like the post 1964 Looney Tunes were...

Sveven,
Flip The Frog & Willie Whopper were indeed MGM'S first two cartoon series, they distibuted the cartoons just like they did with Hal Roach's films in the early 30s.
I'm thinking about making a SPECIAL cartoon collection just for Sveven, that will feature the other Hollywood studios cartoon shorts, which I'm sure he'll enjoy very much.Hey I like to look out for my fellow Toon Forum's Brothers and Sisters. :)

Nelson, do you mind your business, though? You should understand that you have no right to make me see cartoons I don't want to see.:p

I have watched MGM's Tom and Jerry, and I have seen some Barney Bear and Droopy. I like most Popeye cartoons.
Stop trying to convince me to watch oddball stuff. You are being very rude.
You can watch weird cartoons all you want, but you can't make me.

How about the classic, silent Felix the Cat? Great stuff.
I don't know why the kid refuses to even try other cartoons. Maybe someone should send him a copy of Green Eggs and Ham.
I knew my suspicions were right about who was on that ignore list HH! :D I was considering using it for a while too.

No problem Sveven, I do respect your decison....and besides, you're still a cool person anyway:)
Of course no one can make him watch anything he doesn't want to watch. But I do know that I used to LOOOOOVE Heckle and Jeckle when I was a kid, and I would love to watch it again, if they'd only show it. It's hard to be exposed to different studios when "the man" is keeping us down...

Me too, Rob. Here's a list of some toons that I loved as a kid but can't see anymore, or remember clearly, because they aren't on TV.
Heckle and Jeckle
Mighty Mouse
Deputy Dawg
Casper
Color Classics
Chilly Willy
Mr. Magoo
Hunky and Spunky
I've seen quite a few of others too, but I really loved these series. The Color Classics and Hunky and Spunky always made my day when they interrupted the usual Disney stuff on the Disney Channel. That was probably the first time when I noticed the director's credits for any cartoon, if it was by that Fleischer guy, I knew it was good! Maybe those series wouldn't go over well with Adult Joe (well, as close to adult as I'll ever get, anywho) but I'd like to see them for nostalgia's sake, at least. And I'd also learn a little something more about those toons, which I'd like. And the animation on the Fleischer stuff was beautiful! Stereoscopic process galore!
Does anyone else have any cartoons they liked as a kid but haven't seen in a while?

Some others I just remembered
The Raccoons
Danger Mouse
Count Duckula

I rarely watch Droopy and Barney Bear because I don't like those cartoons. Tom & Jerry and Popeye the Sailor are pretty good, but I tend to spend most of my attention on WB.
I have watched Betty Boop, and I regret it. She is so boring! MGM's Captain and the Kids are also boring, I'm glad I have them all on tape so I don't have to watch CN's showings anymore.
As I stated in a different thread, I saw one Gerald McBoing Boing cartoon. It was so weird that I never wanted to see another. That was years before I discovered this board, and at the time I thought he was a one-shot character.
It's a free country. Everyone has the right to choose what cartoons they want to watch and what cartoons they don't.
This thread has angered me earlier today, you can tell by my smilie use.
Many of those studios I didn't even know existed until I came to this board, and I've got enough on my mind with cartoon types I already knew about.

You would love Heckle & Jeckle, Andy Panda, Flip The Frog, Silly Symphonies, etc, etc....
I do agree with Sveven about some of the Betty Boop cartoons...The Betty Boop cartoons that were made before the famous Hollywood production code of 1934, were some of the best cartoons ever made, and after 1935, the Betty Boop cartoons were terrible..I can't sit through one of those "Betty & Pudgy"cartoons, cause they make me wanna puke
You can watch whatever you want to, Sveven, whatever makes you happy at the moment. You wouldn't enjoy the cartoons if you felt they were being forced down your throat anyway.
I do think the cartoons from other studios should be made available for those of us you do want to see and enjoy them, though.
Gerald only appeared in four cartoons (and a very short lived TV show in the 50s), the first was written by Dr. Suess (and released in book form), the other three were followups, showing a bit of a progression. I think he even speaks in "How Now Boing Boing." They're a little odd, Dr. Suess usually thought up wierd things, but I love them, and even own the book:D

Sveven, I really don't think there is cause for you to 'curse' those of us who are just trying to expand your cartoon viewing horizons a bit. Some of us are a bit older and are just making suggestions. Whether or not you wish to add to your viewing habits is up to you, not us. We can't make you do anything as you have whined previously in this thread. What you can do is take our suggestions for what they are - suggestions.
In the future, please don't get so defensive.

OMG,I didn't know you got Count Duckula or Danger Mouse in the US,they are by far the 2 best cartoons EVER made in the UK!!!
And if "South Park:Bigger Longer and Uncut" ever happened I think that "The Raccoons" could save Canada from being bombed.

They used to air on Nickelodeon when I was a kid (mid to late 80s). Haven't seen them in ages, but I'm considering getting a Danger Mouse tape. I also used to get the Count Duckula comic that Marvel Comics made, it had Danger Mouse stories too.

I felt insulted. You may not understand why, but that's how I felt. And if you don't want me to react that way, simply don't irritate or insult me.
Hey, maybe that's the way that other people feel when you start whining about how bad you think their favorite cartoons are. Maybe you should think before you complain next time.

I agree with you, Joe. That narrow-mindedness will eventually catch up with Sveven sooner or later. The attitude doesn't help matters any either.

I probably have the most eclectic cartoon viewing habits on this board. I would also wager that there aren't many here who are older than I am. I remember with fondness a series PBS ran in the late 1970s called The International Festival of Animation. If Sveven thinks that Gerald McBoing Boing is weird, that's his right. Some of UPA's other work would probably make his eyes explode! Live and let live, I personally regret that O Canada is being dropped for Adult Swim and more than one disparaging remark has been made on this board about O Canada. Tastes differ. I personally don't want a diet cosisting of LT/MM, but if he does, so be it. Further Deponent Saith Not

Guys... we REALLY shouldn't arouse Sveven Dvorking of Nine (i couldn't wait to say that). The more we arouse him the more he'll whine. And that's all I need. Being a member of a message boared with another member who acts like my dad.
