This question has perplexed me for some time now... does anyone know the answer to this question?
On the Game Boy Advance, why did Nintendo skip Super Mario Bros. 3 (the best Mario game ever, IMO) when bringing out their Super Mario Advance titles??? Did Nintendo ever give a reason for this? Are there any rumors or speculation as to why they would do this?
Super Mario Bros. --> Super Mario Bros. DX (GBC)
Super Mario Bros. 2 --> Super Mario Advance (GBA)
Super Mario Bros. 3 --> ???
Super Mario World --> Super Mario Advance 2 (GBA)
Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island --> Super Mario Advance 3 (GBA)
On a side note, I'm really glad that The Legend of Zelda: A Link to The Past is getting released on GBA. But does Nintendo have any plans to release Super Metroid on GBA as well?

I don't know why they skipped it. If they weren't so cheap, they would've released it on the same pak as SMB2. It could've easily worked on the GBA.
I'm hoping the next Super Mario Advance is Super Mario RPG, but they oughta have time to release SMB3 sometime during the GBA's lifespan. Along with Tetris Attack. I would kill to have the SNES version of Tetris Attack on my GBA.

As to why they skipped Super Mario Bros. 3, I can't really say. I understand that they would want to release Super Mario World first, since it is arguably the most popular game in the series, but why choose Yoshi's Island for Super Mario Advance 3? SMB 3 is better, more popular, and even the number 3 matches in the game titles. My best theory is that the guys down at Nintendo who make these decisions lined their water pipes with lead.

I can't complain. Yoshi's Island was a pretty damn good game, too.

You got me on this topic. I don't know why they skipped what was no doubt one of the best Nintendo games ever made.
My Super Nintendo still works!
Heck, my Nintendo still works! 16 years and still kicking. Now THAT'S a good investment.

I have absolutely no idea either. That one is totally baffling. Maybe they have something bigger for it "down the line".
By the way (and I know this off-topic, but it still deals with Mario and the GBA), I have this strange feeling that Nintendo will try to bring "Mario 64" to the GBA. I don't why, but that's just crazy enough for them to try.
Maybe they want to add more stuff to the GBA version of SMB3, like more levels, items, etc.

All these Mario re-releases is a scam. You'll see! Down the road after you all bought the re-releases then Nintendo will re-release Super Mario All-Stars on the GBA like they shoulda done to begin with!

Well, I never got into the whole re-release think. I have All-Stars because it was free through an offer when I first bought the SNES.
Yeah, if they re-release that, then I would say something is up.

This could be a case of saving the "best" for last but then again, they might not release it at all. We have no idea what Super Mario Advance 4 is going to be I take it?
for all we know, it could be a secret in the next re-released Mario game.
Remember, how in Super Mario Deluxe how they had "Super Mario bros. : The lost levels" included as a secret. Although, they renamed it Super Mario : For super players.

Speaking of Mario Deluxe, that was the only Mario to GB system re-release Nintendo did right. It had two games on it not to mention the mini-game, high-score tracking, lotsa pictures to unlock and print out, a calender, and so on. And that was on a GBC!
The Mario advances have one game and one stupid mini-game which will always be the same which is why I refuse to buy them and why I'm proud to own Mario Deluxe.
I had 2 cartridges of Super Mario Deluxe for some reason and it was actually a pretty good Multiplayer game. Why do they always include the old arcade Mario game? You Vs. Boo was far better in Single and Multiplayer modes. Or, can't they put 3 or 4 Mario Party style Mini-Games on the cartridge for a more "lively" multiplayer mode.
They should also, add a few more features to it. Why should I buy something I beat several years ago?. I wish they'd add a couple of levels and/or Mini-Games to it so then it wil include something new for those who beat it on a previous console.
I hate it when they call it "a new Mario adventure" while the only thing new is the title menu and the co-op modes.

I still don't get why they haven't made an original Mario game for GBA yet. Are they just trying to cash in with the re-releases of the older ones?

i think mario 3 should have a 3-d version a la super mario64. but game makers are so stupid they pass over obvious hits.

Call me crazy, but I think they should remake the original Mario games for GCN with GCN graphics in a manner similar to SSBM. If they're going to do rereleases, they may as well do them right.

that is remaking not rereleasing :p
as for the topic i really have no idea why they are releasing it late but so long as they rerelease it i will be happy.
this way i dont have to get my NES or SNES out and get them to play the game correctly. boy have those great systems really aged.
