Rather than fight Sveven for bragging rights to the first ACME HOUR post, I have elected to give my analysis.

The theme of today's show, obviously, was "The Misadventures of Hubie And Bertie". I don't know how many cartoons of them were made, but these characters are as highly overlooked as the Wolf in "Billy Boy".

They were sort-of WB's answer to Tom & Jerry. I don't know which pair I like better...Hubie & Bertie or Mac & Tosh?

Say, I wouldn't mind a Mac & Tosh ACME sometime.

Hiphats, Hubie and Bertie appeared in six cartoons, you were treated to their entire filmography today in chronological order.

On another note, the title card to "Cheese Chasers" was redone for BR re-release. There isn't even a fade from the title to the credits. I also checked Dave Mackey's page to make sure. They redid the title cards to several early 50s cartoons for re-release, even though the other credits are original.

If you want to know what the original card looked like, take a look at the director credit (it has Jones' name over a background of Hubie and Bertie). It was common to have title and director credit use the same background while the other credits were placed over a plain color in the late 40s and early 50s...

P.S. I LOVE Hubie and Bertie!

THE ARISTO-CAT - This was like ROUGHLY SQUEAKING when Hubie and Bertie had a cat convinced that he was a lion. Why in the world was a cat taking a bath? Cats don't even go in the water. Great surprise ending. RATING: 3.5 out of 5.

ROUGHLY SQUEAKING - How strange that they show ROUGHLY SQUEAKING after I just mentioned it in my write-up above. This was pretty similar to the above cartoon, but just as good. The bird’s reactions to seeing the cat and dog was hilarious. When he spoke at the end, didn’t he sound like Sylvester? RATING: 3.5 out of 5.

HOUSE HUNTING MICE - This is starting to look like a Hubie and Bertie themed AH. Didn't somebody mention having a Hubie and Bertie marathon just yesterday? Hmm...This cartoon was a better version of DOG GONE MODERN, and all the sight gags were great. RATING: 4 out of 5.

MOUSE WRECKERS - Great. Jones would re-do this later as the Tom and Jerry cartoon, YEAR OF THE MOUSE. My favorite part is the scene where H & B rigged up a trap tied to Claude so that it would send him flying all around the house. Like it was mentioned before, the ending was really abrupt. RATING: 4.5 out of 5.

THE HYPO-CONDRI-CAT - The dream sequence was creative. The ending was different. Probably my least favorite of the Hubie and Bertie's, but that's not saying a lot 'cause this is still good. RATING: 3 out of 5.

CHEESE CHASERS - Great cartoon. The bulldog stole the show here. "It just don't add up!!" RATING: 4.5 out of 5.

I notice that in the early Hubie and Bertie cartoons, Bertie was the gray mouse, and Hubie the brown one, then after a few cartoons, Bertie became the brown one, and Hubie the gray one.

What a great ACME HOUR! Two of my favorite supporting characters! Also, I recall the previous airing of "Cheese Chasers" had the original title card, with Hubie holding onto Bertie's tale, who's running through the piece of cheese. The following WBs were reissued this way:

"Tweety's S.O.S"
"Often an Orphan"
"The Ducksters"
"Cheese Chasers"

Yes. It was me. In the thread for yesterday's ACME Hour, I predicted that there would be a Hubie and Bertie marathon. I also predicted that there will be a Three Bears marathon and a Marc Anthony/Pussyfoot marathon.

I made my prediciton because I noticed that yesterday's Three Littles Pigs marathon was an exact repeat, with the exact same cartoons, in the exact same order, as one that aired last spring. Well, around that same time last spring, they also had those other marathons. So that's why I made my prediction yesterday. So far, I am correct.

By the way, it was Jack who had originally asked for most of those marathons last spring.
