The promotions for Animaniacs on Nickalodeon have begun, I didn't catch much of it, but it did say it starts showing on September 3 at 5 I think. Let us hope it fares better than the butched PatB, but they can't possibly pull off showing their name all over the title sequence, can they? Well let's at least hope by this time next year they're actually shown on the network, I havent seen hide nor fur of PatB on Nick in some time, have you? Or has it been compleatly overrun for good by all those Rugrats marathons?

Well, I doubt Nick can get the name off....but this is Nick. I do pray that they get better ratings....let's all help A! out watch it when it comes on! :)

Sigh....what have they done to Rugrats? It use to be a heartwarming show, now it's just like Scooby Doo and Pokemon.

If you're saying Rugrats and Pokemon are overplayed, think again. Unlike scooby doo where are you, those shows had a large number of episodes.

Rugrats and Pokemon are overplayed. I don't even watch Nick anymore, except for watching Doug. They have Rugrats playing everyday. I liked the first 64 episodes but then......like Pokemon........it got boring.

I'll grant you that these shows have a lot of eppys to show, but they are still played way too many times...I can bet you I'd be a lot more amicable to Rugrats if it was not played so many times in the week...

Has anybody ever counted how many times a day that show comes on?

I suppose we should've known Nick would wait 'till September to exercise their option on A!; that's what they did for P&tB. I can't say I'm not concerned about what they'll do to A! --- more worried that re. p&tB, actually, since I didn't watch P&tB on KWB & therefore don't have the opportunity to compare --- but I will be watching. Oh, currently, Nick runs P&tB @ 5:30am 4:30am Central. And it's not even whole eps; I taped one night recently & when I reviewed it I found To Russia With Lab Mice, but not Hickory Dickory Bonk. Oh well, @ least it gives me the chance to tape over the closing credits I got from the evening showings, back when they were all scrunched to the side of the screen. I think almost all the eps are cleansed of the slime by now. But I'd better review my tapes just in case. Oh yeah, they also air 2 eps on Saturday @ 5 4 Central. Ya wanna know what eps are gonna be shown, go to Yahoo, click on TV & I think you can figure the rest of the way yourself; I did. Cya.

5:30 A.M.?! Now that's jus sad. On the other hand, Nick now clips up nearly all its shows that show different segments....and the combonations they make up are rarely pleasing to anyone.

At least there are no more screen credit crunchings, apparently. But I'd rather have a whole eppy than part o' one with no credit crunching...

Good to hear that Nicks finally going to start showing A!. I just hope they don't make the watertower orange and change the crest to read "Nick presents" --although I would'nt put anything past them! Hope they show all of the eps though, as I think there's a few that CN never aired. Maybe after all these years I'll have a complete set!

Or, they can do the very worst, skip the A! intro completely, if it's too much trouble putting that orange blob of a logo all over everything.

Ummm, forget I even thought of that. Don't want to get relentlessly bopped on the head if that really happens.

The P&tB main titles being altered I can kind-of sort-of maybe deal with. After all, the opening was the same for nearly every episode (exceptions like "A Pinky & the Brain Christmas," "Pinky & the Brain & Larry," etc. notwithstanding), and the only time there was ever a cold opening (i.e., material *BEFORE* the theme song) was episode # 25. So it's not really an integral part of the episode.

But for A!: A) there was very frequently some sort of cold opener / teaser airing before the theme, and B) the song was altered slightly each episode, with the variable verse. So, like The Simpsons (with the weekly chalkboard / couch gags), the main titles become a part of each episode. Altering them would be outright sacrilege, and I would probably refuse to watch A! on Nick at all, even for the sake of taping the last episodes I need.

The thing that really bothers me about their P&tB airings is the completely gratuitous cuts Robert has mentioned. If they try to pull that sort of thing with A!, I'll...have to write my Congressman or something.

Btw, all you "P&tB-on-Nick" watchers...have they shown any PE&tB stuff yet?

-C
But Nick *IS* picking up Cheers in the fall...woo-hoo!

Nick = the Rugrats channel. They'll put the ugly orange blobs. They are evil, they will hack up the cartoons beyond recognition. Plus, the morons would rather have some show on wild animals or that show where the cat and dog share the same body (ruthlessly stolen from "Porky in Wackyland", or the one which is undersea, or...

Thank God their classic WB cartoons are now on CN. If they kept them, they would have replaced the zooming WB shield with a zomming orange blob with a Rugrats promo. Yuck.

The opening they had for "Looney Tunes on Nikelodion" was sort of like that. They used clips from cartoons played to a theme song called...."Looney Tunes On Nickelodion," but they colored in things like logs and such orange.

So what do they edit from P&TB on Nick? I'd really like to know since I don't really watch it on Nick much, what time is it on?

Well, I'll watch A! on Nick & put up with the edits & cuts & gratuitous logos, because I won't have any choice; such is the price I pay for taking so long to wake up to the WB toons. I don't think they've shown any PE&tB yet, but I haven't kept CLOSE watch on it every day, so they might have. Partial eps are run in the wee smalls @ 5:30 4:30 Central; two eps are run on Saturdays @ 5 & 5:30 4 & 4:30 Central. One thing they edited --- I remember this coming up in conversation here before --- was "It's deja vu all over again" from Brainania. As I really didn't watch it on KWB when I had the chance, I couldn't tell you anything else.

Well, let's see, NARF!

Brainania: Cut is the scene of armed guards confronting the mice after Brain warns Pinky that he had created an international incident (threatening that Brainania will invade the US).

Snowball: Pinkys response to Brain's are you pondering what I'm pondering line is trimmed: "I think so, Brain, but Snowball for Windows?"

Pinky's Plan: Cut is Pinky's answer to Brain's question: Do you know what today is? Ummm, the day we spackle the cracks in my head with Spam?

T.H.E.Y.: Ricola! is cut from when T.H.E.Y. council accepts Brain's quitting of being a pledge.

I'm not sure if I forgot one, but that's what I spotted. Seems like Nickelodeon has a problem with trade names.

I agree how it sucks that Nick sticks its logo everywhere. It treats any shows it picks up with no respect...permit me to go off-show here for an example.

...Garfield, when it aired on Nick, had the 60-second "quickie" joke (usually a one-liner) at the end of the show. Yet Nick RECORDS what's coming on next OVER the joke! The ACTUAL show having a 'coming up' message!
Nick should watch out...with stupid decisions like that, it will LOSE its title as number one kids netowork...

Thank's Big Ears, if Nick edits silly stuff like that out of P&TB, I can only imagine what's going to happen to Animaniacs...

Not meaning to stir up more fears of how A! will be treated, but I searched through the old boards and found this edit about "Brain Drained":

The edit occurs toward the end, after Pinky and The Brain
have given up on finding writers to create their latest
scheme to take over the world.

The cut occurs after they walk out of the office. The
following is cut:

The mice are walking down a sidewalk, coming up to a studio entrance.

BRAIN: It is obvious that there are no original writers
in Hollywood, Pinky

Pinky: Look, Brain. Warner Brothers Studios. Maybe we can
Find some writers there. POIT!

BRAIN: Naaah. We can't afford them, Pinky.
We don't have enough bananas.

Nick resumes here with the two already past the entrance, and
Pinky is singing 'They're Pinky and Brainy.....They're winky
and wainy'...

So, no slams, jabs, or jokes of any kind about WB?
What is that going to do for A! if that is the case?
Hopefully nothing.

That's the most significant edit I recall them making then.

Sounds like what happenned to the B&W Looney Tunes when they were first released to television, stuff like the WB shield gag in Porky In Wackyland were cut out. So, I guess Nick doesn't want to endorse WB?

Sigh....it's a pity Nick has to put in all those edits. Why can't they just let a WB joke go by?

I fear they would put in a NICK logo and dub over any WB jokes to make it Nick-centric....can you imagine that?

Okay, maybe not to that extreme. But I fear anyway....

I saw the "Animaniacs!" ad on Nick with all the superfluous sound effects added. Do the words "Be afraid. Be very afraid." mean anything to you?

BourgeoisBuffoon
08-19-2001, 05:03 PM
Yes. Those words mean a lot.
I saw the ad finally too....it sucked! What has Nick done to Animaniacs? Now I really do fear for them....imagine the show...all those Nick jokes I said they may do probably WILL have a good chance of happening...

Uh...I don't watch enough Nick to see this ad. What exactly does it consist of?
